Hello everybody, its me again. I need some advice? My 10 month old grandson has been teething since about 2 months old but didn't get his first tooth until he was about 7 months, now his teeth are coming in, in leaps and bounds. His first 2 bottem teeth were hard, Orajel didn't work, but the humphreys seemed to do the job and when things got bad we used a little rum. Now our dilemma, His two top teeth have come out and he did fine, but there are two more top teeth are coming in other either side of the two front ones and he has been in such horrendous pain. My daughter has tried everything. Well at least everything that we know of. We have tried the Orajel, the humphrey's, the Islands, Rum, Tequila, Ice chips. He is in so much pain that all day yesterday he did not eat or drink anything. He cried almost all day and it took my, my husband, my mother and me to try and get him to be calm and we tried to sooth him as much as possible. It is nerve racking to see such a little one in so much pain and nothing we can do about it. I think at some point about midnight he was so tired of crying he finally passed out, but I could hear him during the night waking up and screaming. Other then what I mentioned above, does anyone know of anything else that we can use to sooth the soreness? We give him Tylenol for the fever, but it doesnt seem to do anything for the pain. This has all been bery hard for all of us but its expecially hard for him. Can anyone suggest anything else we can do? As always thanks for the responses.

Hello everyone! Well I took all your advice and ran with it. That same day, my daughter went out and bought the Motrin. It has been a life saver for her. All the peds ever tell you is "Give Tylenol" so she never thought about the obvious. (we all take motrin for pain). The baby has been sleeping better and has also been eating better. He is still sensitive that at this point no table food because it hurts him so his food is all meshed up and runny for now. He doesnt mind. He loved the Pedialyte frozen pops and the self feeder with ice. I am not one to give medications to babies at a whim but we were seriously at our wits end. He has been a happier baby and has started to bite more on his chew toys which is a good sign. Thank all of you again for your advice, it all worked wonders.
So sorry to hear about this- I know how it feels to helplessly watch while your child is in pain. I had the same problem a while back. I bought some pure CLOVE oil from a herbal shop, and applied it to my baby's gums- and it seemed to help a lot. Also, being a natural product, there are no side-effects. Please try and see if this helps your grandson at all.

My 8 month old is getting tooth after tooth...and we are using Motrin for the pain. I will give me a dose of Motrin and then apply Orjel to the gums. It gets us through his fusiness and screaming moods. When is not soothable, the ice chips help and he loves it. I put the ice in a self feeder and he chews on that.
Boy do I remember the teething days. My son loved strawberries and I would freeze them and let him bite on that. You can freeze bananas too. We used Motrin for the pain when it was really bad. Good luck!
The "Hyland's Teething Tabs" or gel, worked for our kids. It's also homeopathic.
Our kids liked to chew on things... especially dampened frozen washcloths. Anything frozen, they liked.
Also, yes, try Motrin instead of Tylenol... for some it works better for pain. Tylenol for fever. If anything, see if the Pediatrician can suggest other things.

Hi. I feel your pain. I have two children and it is very hard when they are hurting. I see you have tried Tylenol, but have you tried Motrin? This has always been more helpful to us to reduce the pain. The other thing you can try is freezing some bagels or something and having the baby chew on the frozen bagel. The cold will help with the pain and the chewing helps them get those teeth thru faster. I feel so bad your grandson, and for the whole family. It is just h*** o* everyone. Good luck.
My 8 month old is teething like crazy too. I would also recommend the Hyland teething tablets and you can find them at places like Henry's and Albertson's. They work great for my son, but sometimes they are hard to get into his mouth when he refuses to open up. I would also recommend a vibrating toy that Babies R Us carries. It is in the shape of a star and has a handle for them to hold onto. Hi V., congradulations on being a grandma, I'm still waiting, I have a 24 year old married son, When my 3 were babies, I did a few things, one of the things I did was keep a spoon in the freezer, and would massage their gums with the cold spoon, I also put crushed ice in a clean wash cloth put a rubberband around it and let them chew on it, that was their favorite, it felt good plus pacifide them, and at times i would rub the infants tylenol right onto the gums, and for mine that seen tro ease the pain especially at night so they could sleep. The ice chips should work if wraped in a wash cloth so he can suck and chew on it, he will get wet, but as hot as it has been she will be fine. J.
