17 Week Pregnant and Wondering How Much Fun Is to Much Fun :)

I have a 6 and a 2 year old, both boys. So they are also both hight energy. Before getting pregnant I was great at really getting in there and getting involved and playing with the kids. For example we have a house of bounce (big place with about 10 big blow up bouncy things and even adults can jump in) I was the parent that was right there jumping and playing with the kids. We went the other day and of corse i did not bounce for ovious reasons, and the kids were really sad that I could not come with, but my 6 year old that understands the situation was very good about making sure I did not hurt his baby sibling :) So now the real question. We have been planing to go to a valley fair (a 6 flags type a thing with a water park) for a while and this year we got an invite for my husband and I and our 6 year old to go with some friends that are friends with us and have a child around 6. This would be a lot of fun, but i don't want to go if my husband and my son are going to have all the fun and I can't go on any of the rides with the boys. and I don't want anything to hapen to the baby either. My Dr. Just kind of left it up to me for what I wanted to do. I am haveing a very helthy pregnancy. Does anyone know how much fun and to much for a pregnant lady. We would most likly go next month. Thanks for all your advice!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your input! My husband (and kinda my MD) laughed at me for worring, because I'm not really a ride kind a person in the first place and I'm so carefull when I'm prego. The marry go round is as tough as I would go even if I wasn't prego:) I guess I just didn't want to spent 30 some $ to watch the kids. I know I am still not wording that right. Anyway thank you again for your input. I'm am still thinking about it. I just want to do something while I'm there to make it worth it, but also I'm not wanting to take the risk of any thing happening to my baby, My hubby said that he will not go with out me and when the baby comes we will be to busy with baby. I might even call up and see if because I am prego maybe I can just go in free just to watch (That I would be more that happy to do :) I asked at one time and they told me if I was going in the park I had to pay. Thanks again!!!

We went to 6 flags this weekend and I am 9 weeks pregnant. I stood in line with my family so I could spend time with them. When we went to load the ride I just stepped across to the exit and cheered for my little girl. It was fun. Promise!

I think the decision has in part been made for you already. You simply won't be allowed on any ride that has the slightest risk of harming a fetus. And honestly, I doubt those rides actually are dangerous, Im sure it's just the fair covering its a** against unfounded lawsuits.
I doubt many of the rides you 6 year old would be allowed on would be that rough on your body.
Obviously use judgement and don't go to anything where there's a chance of being hit on the belly (like those that change direction/speed suddenly and the safety bar could hit your tummy)
Keep in mind that most sports are still safe when pregnant. On the not-so-crazy rides, your baby won't be moving around much more than if you were running/jumping. Afterall, as someone else said, the baby is well protected in there, floating in water. I wouldn't especially worry about placental abruption at this point in pregnancy if you don't have any risk factors and you are reasonable on the rides you choose to go on.
If you have a normal pregnancy and your doctor sees no obvious risks, I would say go for it. Just listen to your body and slow down when you need too. And make a conscious effort to drink more water to stay well hydrated.

Hi B.! I love Valley Fair! I would avoid roller coasters, definitely don't do the Power Tower, Excalibur, The Axe, etc. It's not worth the risk.

Just the same, you shouldn't stay home just because you can't go on the big rides. The water park is a blast and water slides are MUCH tamer than a roller coaster. You can ride the carousel (two year old will enjoy!) and be there clapping and waving at your son's as they enjoy some of the rides that you can't go on.
Remember, you don't have to physically be next to your family on each ride to have fun, share a great experience and be together as a family.
Be sure to bring your sun block! :)

If your doctor did not explicitly tell you NOT to ride the rides you need to find ANOTHER doctor pronto!!! What kind of doctor wouldn't advise you immediately to avoid any kinds of rides like that!? Ever looked at the signs before you enter a ride? It states that pregnant women should avoid riding any kind of jarring ride. Some of those rides are pretty rough and you have no idea how rough is too rough.

You would be putting your unborn child and yourself at extreme risk. Ever heard of placental abruption? Google it if you need to be convinced why you should stay off amusement park rides. Same goes for water park rides as well.
This is a pretty good article discussing the risks:

I'm sorry but you sound way immature-"i don't want to go if my husband and my son are going to have all the fun and I can't go on any of the rides with the boys". You are pregnant for goodness sake! It's not about you and what you want at this point. It is about the child you are carrying!

Grow up, get over it and go with them and have a good time from the sidelines.

I would check their website or call, a lot of rollwercoaster or big drop rides will have no pregancy rules and they might not allow you to ride some beacuse of liability issues. I just had to do this to see what was ok for me (also preggers) for our Disney trip next week. But the park should be able to tell you what they feel are preggo safe rides :) the best advice I can give is have a great time and stay super hydrated, you are the best judge of your limits :)

Stick with the merry go round and the ferris wheel. There are plenty of rides with warnings about heart patients and pregnant women not riding. It's not worth risking your baby and your health. Once the baby is here and you are recovered, you can go right back in the bounce house with the kids. Right now your next child is using YOU as a bounce house!

Hi B. - I know you have already done a follow up on this, but I wanted to put my 2 cents in. I too was preggo when we went to Valleyfair with friends. At that time (2002), when I called, they told me that they do have a reduced rate for pg women. They said that I would get a wrist band that would identify that I was pg. so the ride operators would know. They also told me that if I were to go on any restricted rides with the wristband, that I basically would be escorted out of the park. I still paid full price, and since I was less than 2 mo. pregnant, I did go on a few things like High Roller, Thunder Canyon and I did the waterpark. Didn't do Power Tower, Excalibur, or anything like that though. I did stand in line with my hubby and friends while waiting and then I just passed through and waited at the end for them. I still had a blast!

Um, yeah, don't ride those rides. It's just not worth the risk. You can go on the tame rides like the merry go round and MAYBE a water ride or two, but honestly, if you're going to bummed out, just don't even put yourself in the position and stay home. I am also quite surprised your doctor didn't tell you to steer clear, but if anything were to happen in your pregnancy (God forbid), you would always question whether or not it was because of that ride...can you handle that?

Most rides will tell you if you can ride them or not if you are pregnant. Also water is a great form of exercise when you are expecting. Your body will tell you when it has had enough. Go have fun especially now.. if you were closer to your due date I would be cautious but you can have a lot of fun without causing any issues.

As long as you are having a healthy pregnancy and the doctor left it up to you and I would say GO! Just be smart about it. Don't go on rides that are going to squish your stomach, I've heard no rollercoasters for pregnant women because that can be way too much force. Probably not the silly silo either. Do the easy rides with your sons and let your husband do the crazier rides. Besides, your 6 yo old may not be able to go on too much anyway. I took my 5yo old to an amusement park last summer and he wasn't quite tall enough to go on most of the scary rides he wanted to go on. So we rode all the ones that he could.
Have fun!

I went body surfing and snorkeling in hawaii and I was almost 6 mos. pregnant. Perhaps after 6 months you need to tone it down, but unless your slamming yourself in the tummy, you should be fine. There's a LOT of cushioning there :) Check with your OB/Gyn to be safe, of course, but I think the rides might specify. You might be able to find info on rides and pregnancy at the 6 flags website. Good luck!
