4 Yr Old Shots

Hi ladies! My daughter is 4 and the doc called saying she needs the immunizations and her check up. Aren't those the booster shots she will need before school? She is up to date with her other shots and I would rather wait a little bit. Im not debating getting them, I always do, but I swear my 14 yr old didn't get the booster till 5? Am I missing something or worse, getting too old to remember??

What can I do next?

My son got five shots at his 4 year old appointment and he doesn't get anymore until he's 11. He's set for kindergarten and nothing else for a few years, thankfully.

In PA they are required for kindergarten but it doesn't matter whether they are 4 or 5 when they get them. Our pediatrician just asked whether we had a preference, now or later and we just did them (right now DS doesn't care about shots, maybe next year he will so we just got them over with). She still does need annual check ups which should include an eye and hearing check. Sometimes an iron level.

There are new ones at the 4 yr well check and the last ones of the ones she has already started. There is one booster at age 5 before Kinder. Good luck!

I had my 6 year old at the doc yesterday for her yearly check up and I asked the next time she will need shots and the answer was 11.

She did tell me that my 3 1/2 year old will get FIVE in October when she comes in for her 4 year check up.

As soon as she said it, I recall being very suprised when my oldest needed all the pokes at her 4 year...this is normal. After this, they get a LONG break :)

its the booster shots before going to kindergarten. they don't have to be 5 to get them, they have to get them before they start school.

I would call them back and ask exactly which ones are due, and ask for a copy of her vaccination record.

I would then research the state "requirements" (being aware of exemptions, also, which most states have) before making any further decisions. Your state department of health probably has the school list somewhere on their web site. There are timing issues, too, to consider.

In other words, I would not be goaded into doing something where I didn't have a complete picture of what was going on.

Good luck.

My 5 year old got 2 boosters he needs for Kindergarten but didn't need any last year. I think it may be the same things that they need in time for K. The school gave me a really good hand out on what shots are needed for each age/grade. Maybe you can find that info online?

My son got his boosters at his 4 year visit and didn't need any at his 5 year. I think it depends on the schedule they're using and when you got the FIRST or second round of the boosters.

You're right, though, those ARE the shots she needs before school, but she'll be set then... (my DS doesn't need any more until he's 11).

Hmmm, not sure.
I have a 15 year old who had to just have boosters. They have new guidelines for Tdap. Kids entering school in certain ages are recommended for the boosters. I had to have mine as well since I work at a hospital.
It the boosters are for whooping cough, they may be recommened earlier than usual. I know the guidelines for children entering school have changed.

Ask the pediatrician if you aren't sure.
My kids have received all required immunizations, as have I, due to working in a hospital setting.
Some of the schedules have changed so just follow up with the pediatrician.

Best wishes.
