My 11 years old daughter has started getting a few pimples on her face. Mostly in the T zone. Every night and morning she washes with a gentle face wash. I dont know if thats helping or making it worse. I've heard that when they're that young that the chemicals can be too harsh for their skin and make matters worse. Shes about to start Jr High and would like to nip this in the butt before it starts becoming a problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on a product that we could try?

What can I do next?

Proactiv has worked for me and is good for mild acne. If she starts getting really bad acne, then i'd take her to a dermatologist for something stronger. Proactiv is very mild.

C., your daughter has a good head start in that she is cleansing her face twice a day. The earlier a girl starts cleansing and caring for her skin, the easier it will be for her as she moves into her teen years. There are very few products specially formulated for tween skin. And so tween girls wind up using teen skin products that contain salicylic acid which can be harsh on young skin.

I would suggest your daughter use a facial wipe at least twice a day, and because they are gentle, she can keep a package in her backpack and cleanse her face mutlipe times during her school day--particularly after activites. Clean Skin Face Wipes from Ottilie & Lulu (www.ottilieandlulu.com)are gentle with natural botanicals and a 100% cotton cloth. Don't let her use make up remover wipes because most contain parabens and SLS which aren't good for your daughter's tween skin.

Another suggestion would be to have your daughter keep her hair off her face especially at night while she is sleeping. Hair oil and face oil don't mix well on a changing complexion. Ponytails are great for a girl's skin.

Hope this is helpful.

First off I would talk with her doctor... but here's what I've tried and used... I have teenage like skin, more break outs than most teens! I have tried Arbonne, Avon, Mary Kay, Estee Lauder, stuff from Walgreen's, etc... and the only product that seems to work is Proactiv! I am shocked that it works so well, but it is pricy for what you get. It's like $20 a month for them to ship it to you. I hear they have a little "shop" in West County Mall, so that might be an option. Anyway, since she is so young, I would start with her doctor, but I honestly believe that Proactiv is the best product out there! It doesn't dry out your face like most of the other products do... good luck!

C., I have been an Avon Beauty Advisor for about a year and a half now. I have a 12 year old son with similar challenges! :-) I did some research for you and suggest the following products. AVON has moved to using a lot of botanicals in their products, so your skin suffers less from harsh chemicals! You can check out my website for prices and additional information or just e-mail me with specific questions: http://shawnabennett.avonrepresentative.com/
* CLEANSER: CLEARSKIN Purifying Gel Cleanser - Oil-free, gel-to-foam cleanser penetrates pores to dissolve dirt and oil, leaving skin extra clean, clear and refreshed. 5.1 fl. oz. (COMPARE TO: Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash)
* ASTRINGENT: CLEARSKIN Purifying Astringent Blackhead Clearing Formula - Penetrates pores to help control buildup and lift away dirt, oil and makeup. Eliminates existing blackheads and fights off future blackheads and blemishes. 8 fl. oz. (COMPARE TO: Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Astringent, Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Astringent)
* SPOT TREATMENT: CLEARSKIN Immediate Response Spot Treatment - In just eight hours, targeted gel treatment penetrates pores, visibly reducing the appearance of blemishes and minimizing redness. Nourishing botanical extracts soothe skin and help prevent over-drying. Leaves skin looking clearer and healthier. .5 fl. oz. (COMPARE TO: Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Eliminating Gel, Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment)
I hope this is helpful! There are several other CLEARSKIN products as well.

Given that it's a hormonal problem, skin products really don't work. I had milk acne as a teen and nothing over the counter worked. She might still be a little young, but the only thing that helped 100% was the birth control Ortho-Tricyclen.

Mary K has cleanser and moisturizer specially formulated for teens called Velocity. Each is about $10. My 12 and 11 year old daughters and 15 yr. old son use them and it has greatly helped.

I seen someone else had already suggested this, but the Mary Kay product Velocity is specifically designed for teens and pre-teens. This stuff is a miracle. I sell it and have some cousins that had terrible acne and it has 100% cleared their skin. She will just have to be consistant. Its $22 for the pair, meaning a cleanser and moisturizer. Usually the set will last about 3 months.

I had the same trouble with all three of my daugters and found a naturally based company that does not use the harmful chemicals that store brands have. We are saving alot of money as well. They were on Proactive and now get 4 skin care products for $14.99 verses $50.00 per month. If you woud like more info please contact me. This was a true blessing for our family as all 3 faces were smiling again!

Acne is a symptom of the liver trying to detox toxins that are trapped in the body. Does she eat a lot of junk food? You don't even need products to treat symptomatically if she is able to nip this now with learning to eat a healthy diet full of fresh fruits and veggies, plenty of fish oils and of course water. I would recommend a good fish oil supplement. www.vitacost.com is a vitamin warehouse that has cheaper prices on supplements (or at least the cheapest I have found for some of the supps I buy). Coromega is a good one and it tastes good too. It would benefit her skin as well as her brain function, immune system and cardiovascular system. Not enough good can be said about fish oils and unfortunately eating fish is risky with all the contaminated fish (those that are loaded with mercury and pcb's etc.) THe fish oils (or many and I know Coromega is one of them) are stripped of the bad toxins leaving behind the good essential fats. Good luck!

A family friend of mine's daughter used Proactive and she absolutely loved it. They advertise it all the time on TV, but I've seen it sold at Target.

Arbonne is a product that I use and occassionaly sell. I don't push it, just get people the stuff if they want it. They are all natural products. Having worked for Lancome & Ralph Lauren cosmetics for years, I was always a faithful user of their products. Having been introduced to Arbonne last December, I have completely switched and noticed a HUGE difference in my skin.

Like I said, I really don't sell to much because I don't try, but if you would like any info give me a buzz.

The brand Purpose that is sold at many stores including Target is gentle frangrance-free and non-irritating. My dermotologist reccommended it when I was a teen and I still use it. The key is no fragrance for sensitive blemished skin. Hope this helps. Purpose has a great moisturizer as well.

I tried Proactiv as well. Personally I found it very harsh and irritating and it has frangrance. And it is expensive in comparison the others mentioned.

The Body Shop also offers good fragrance-free products for sensitive skin. The Body Shop has a great mask I use to clear my pores.

My advice to you is to visit your family doctor and see what they suggest. I took my step daughter to the doctor and they gave her a prescription face wash that cleared it right up...

My daughter is 10, and she began having minor breakouts for about 6 months now. We started using Noxema, that worked a little, but not the greatest. So I talked to a dermatoligist and she reccommended the Neutrogena (sp probably wrong)acne wash. So We got that and it was working really good. She likes how it makes her face really soft. For those tougher breakouts (for her along her hairline on forehead) I bought the spot treatment she puts on before bed. Within a few days I could see a difference. I think it's a good habit to start them with good hygene routine this young, and the dermatoligist said it was as well. If you have questions about her being so young, maybe you should make her an appointment with one and hearing it from a doctor, she might stick to it better. Good Luck!
