I am planning a trip to Shedd Aquarium with my family and was wondering if there is anywhere I can get discounted tickets, rates, coupons, etc. Also, any suggestions about exhibits or shows at the aquarium is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

I was JUST there on Monday. If you go on their website under "planning your trip" and discounts (I think), it will tell you the dates that are free to go on. Monday was a free day. It only includes 3 exhibits, but they are pretty big and it took us 3 hours to get through them with 2 2-year olds and a 1 year old. They didn't know what they were missing with the other exhibits that you have to pay for. Friends of ours purchased the tickets to see the dolphin show with their 4 year old girls, and they were very dissapointed in the show. I guess it wasn't worth what they payed for it. Parking is also pretty expensive: $16 for up to 4 hours and $19 after that at Soldier Field parking garage. If you do decide to pay to go to the aquarium, the rates are cheaper than what they state on the website, which was a nice surprise. We had a really great time and I hope you do too. :)

we ended up getting a membership when we went - it ended up being an extra $5 I think maybe it was even cheaper? - and then we will just make sure we go again by the end of the membership year.

Check the prices online for membership.

I had read that in the month of November Mondays and Tuesdays are free general admission days. You would still have to pay for the dolphin exhibits and some others - I think they have packages for that. But you can save some $$$ on the general admission cost.

Try the City of Chicago website. They have some coupons for different attractions.

The library has passport passes. I'm not sure how to use them. Here's from the Shedd's website:

Community Discount Days
On our Community Discount Days, general admission is free. Includes the Waters of the World, Amazon Rising, and the Caribbean Reef. Packages including Wild Reef, Polar Play Zone and Oceanarium are available at a discounted rate. Shedd's 52 discount days a year take advantage of civic and school holidays to make family visits more convenient.

Remaining 2009 Community Discount Days are these Mondays and Tuesdays: Oct. 26 and 27; and Nov. 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24 and 30.

We went to the Shedd a few weeks ago and were surprised to get a discounted rate since we paid with our Bank of America debit card. We didn't see anything anywhere about this discount. So if you have one, use it!!

Our local libraries were offering museum passes to "check out". We haven't tried it yet, but I have heard good things. You might contact your library to see if they have anything like that.
