Infant Baby Acne - Round Lake, IL

My daughter had baby acne too. The doctor recommened that we put a little .5% cortizone cream on the affected areas. I was a little apprehensive at the time but it did work. I think I also found a gentle lotion and applied that as well to prevent over-drying. It cleared up within a month or so (I think -- it was 5 yrs ago) once the excess hormones she got from me started to ease up.

No need to worry - could be the leftover pregnancy hormones working their way out, or breastfeeding could be the source (imo, not a good enough reason to stop breastfeeding). At any rate, it is only cosmetic and will most likely go away. You may wish to avoid most common cleansers because they are too harsh on baby's sensitive skin. Yes, it might be unsightly but it isn't a health issue, so no need to worry!

My son had it too...very unsightly but it went away by 2 months....our Ped. just suggested watching his face with mild soap and water once a day. It seemed to do the trick.

I had the same problem with my son when he was 2 month old. He developed baby acne and eczema on his face. It was terrible, he would scratch his face and make it worse. I went to my doctor and she said that with time it will go away but it bothered me way too much to wait. My Mom has been in to natural remedies for a while now and she told me what he has is Candida and to try Black Walnut Green Hulls extract without alcohol in it, so I found it at Vitamin's Shoppe. The brand name is Nature's Answer ( naturesanswer.com is their website). I was a little scared to apply it to his face, but I gave it a try anyways. After his bath I applied it with a cotton all over his face and put him to bed. (The liquid is dark brown so it looks a little scary) Next morning I washed it off with water and it allready looked better. The redness was gone!!! I applied it again that morning and night for three days, and his face is beautifull again. All the patches r gone and the acne disapeared. Now, whenever he gets any kind of rash I just apply a little bit on it and it's gone the next day. Good Luck ;-)

It seems that just when they've lost the oblong goofy shape of their head from a vaginal birth, they are not exactly photogenic for other reasons... baby acne is so common.

I am not sure if it was the 'cure' of my baby's acne, or if it just ran its course, but, I would take a baby washcloth (they are way more gentle and softer on baby's skin than adult washcloths) and would wet it with warm water, and wipe baby's face a couple times a day. My Italian baby's have always seemed to have excessively oily skin, like mom and dad :) I didn't use any soaps or washes, just a wet washcloth twice a day. my last baby also seemed to be getting cradle cap in her eyebrows... probably because i never touched those with the brush. Which leads me to my next tip... brush baby's hair twice a day with a gentle baby brush to help exfoliate skin cells and prevent cradle cap... don't forget a quick swipe on the eye brows :)

Baaby acne can last a while, but it can also be gone quickly... either way, like M R said... it's not a health concern.

Hi J., my daughter had the same problem. Take him to the doctor, my doctor had me change the detergent I was washing her clothes in and gave me some cream to use on her face.

If you're breastfeeding, you can rub a little breastmilk on the acne -- it sounds goofy, but it clears it up. Just put a few drops on your finger and rub it in -- it's a miracle cure, lol.

Yes, baby acne is common so don't fret. We moms want our babies to be perfect, don't we? Many times it is the hormones, especially in girls. But it is important about what you wash her skin with that can also irritate it as well. Many products have oil that can actually clog the skin (mineral oil). A very mild wash should be used and pat dry the skin.

There is a fantastic line of pure and botanically based baby products that are wonderful that won't cause more breakouts or irritate sensitive skin. I have found that the ABC line of Arbonne is wonderful, not only for babies, but for children and adults with very sensitive skin. Soaps leave a residue and don't thoroughly rinse off the skin, thereby leavig a thin layer that also clogs pores and may not let good things into the skin like essential oils that babies need so desparately. After all, they have been in water for 9 months!!
