The last one I bought was a Maytag top loading and I swear it is yellow - it's a lemon. I have always bought Kenmore prior to that and now I know why.

Personally I am a "Whirlpool Girl". Since you have a family of four and might one day grow again, I would get the top of the line washer they usaually have a larger tub and more settings. You pay more up front, but in the long run it will save you. My Mom kept her first washing machine, a Whirlpool, for over twenty years. My Dad bought mine for my birthday when I moved in my house eight years ago. I bought the top of the line as well. I did not know if I would marry and have a family, but just in case. If you can afford get a front load with the pedistal as well. You can wash more at one time which is resource saving. I dream of the day I can wash my comforters at home.

Check out the places that have interest free time periods so you can pay it off before you have to pay the interest.

Happy Shopping

I personally think that the brand I have used for the past fifteen years is the best I've ever used. It is Hotpoint. During the past thirty eight years of marriage, I've used several brands and this one has served my family best.

We just bought a new washer and dryer at the end of December. We bought the LG brand front loader washing machine. And I LOVE it!! I can wash so many more clothes, and use a lot less water. I use cloth diapers on my son, so I do a lot of laundry. I am anxious to see our water bill for January, that will be the true test to see how much we are saving with a high efficiency machine. And if you are into "green living" Seventh Generation makes wonderful detergent for HE machines too. That is what we use. We purchased our machines at HH Gregg, very helpful sales guys!

We recently purchased from Home Depot a new Maytag Bravo. It is a top loading machine, but like the front loaders it is a high efficency machine. What used to take me 3 loads to do now takes me one load. We also bought the dryer to go with it(loads take less time to dry as well)

My quilts fit in it and come out clean, my whole laundry seems to be cleaner than my old machine. Plus, I can put sweaters that say hand wash only in the machine without worry.

But, before deciding on a machine go to Lowes or Home Depot and do some shopping, and ask questions.

Also, my water bill went down after getting my machine.

I puchased a high efficiency washer and dryer last year and it is awesome. It is a kenmore from Sears, they have several models, mine is the middle of the 5 models they had at the time. The dry time is super fast and the washer really gets my white clothes clean.

We bought a new house a few years ago and needed a new set of machines. We went with the new front loader and couldn't be happier. We went with a lower priced version and that is enough for us. We don't need all of those bells and whistles. I can wash a weeks worth of towels and washclothes in one load and it runs on less water and less time.

I'm not sure which is best, but I know if you buy a washing machine with the entergy stamp you can write it off on your taxes at the end of the year.

Although the front loading washing machines are great energy savers- there a couple companies that have top loaders with no agitators. These too are HE- I personally have the Kenmore from Sears. Its a bit on the expensive side, but I think its worth it. You don't have to bend down (or pay extra for a stand) like you do with the front loaders, and you never have to worry about the rubber seal around the door going bad- Like some of my friends had happen. Good Luck in your search!

My family has always owned Kenmore appliances. My Dad used to work for Sears, and gets a discount on items purchased from there. That's how our brand loyalty started, but we've had very good experiences with Kenmore items, so we've kept buying them!

We currently don't have a front loading washing machine (but I plan to buy one when our washing machine dies ... which I hope is a long time from now!). ;) My parents just bought a front loader though, and they LOVE it. They're a bit more expensive, but I've heard well worth the money. And, they save you a ton on electricity and are better on your clothes.

Good luck finding the right washing machine for you and your family!

I just bought a new whirpool duet front loader. My brother has one. It really gets the clothes clean and the dryer dries really fast. Takes bigger loads. It is also expensive. I work at a childrens shelter and we also have a front loader. I highly reccomend them even with the cost. A lot of componies do 6 mos same as cash so you can pay it off without having any interest. Go to consumer reports and they will also give you best buys. C.

We just purchased a new washer/dryer pair. I have to tell you I fought the salesman's push toward the front loading pair because of the high cost. I finally gave in and purchased a pair of GE front loaders and wish I had done it sooner. I have two small (very dirty) boys and a six year old daughter who gets into her share of messes. The clothes for the first time in 7 years get clean the first time!!!!
I can't recommend them strongly enough!

We've had a Maytag (lower end) washer & dryer since July 2004. We haven't had any problems, other than the washing machine sometimes "walks" a little when the load is shifted too heavy on one side during the spin cycle. Also, my parents have had a Maytag washer & dryer for at least 11 years, and they just changed a belt on the washer recently. Other than that, they haven't had any problems.

Hi - we have an LG front load washer that I LOVE! It has so many options that are great. It has a sanitary cycle (I use this for sheets, towels, dirty baby clothes, etc). It kills 99.9% of germs. It also has a speed wash cycle, optional added steam to remove stains, and a plain steam cycle that lasts approx 20 minutes and replaces ironing (just place your clean, wrinkly clothes in the steam cycle while you're getting ready, and voila - 20 minutes later, you have wrinkle free clothes). This steam cycle is my absolute favorite and I couldn't live without it. I have a very nice, expensive iron, and it is collecting cobwebs! The washer also has a super huge capacity and I can do 2-3 normal loads at once.

Try a Kenmore (Sears product made by Whirlpool) or Westinghouse. Had a Kenmore for about 20 yrs. until it finally gave up the ghost. Husband bought an Admiral on sale. Had about
10 yrs. Would NOT buy another one. This was used with only 2 people in family. Kenmore was used when both child in diapers & up until the oldest was about 21. My appliance repairman said he would stay away from G.E.s & Frigidaire also. When our machine gives out we're going back to Kenmore. Our other appliances are Kenmore, we have always had good service out of them. Sears has a variety of prices also. Good luck & God bless. Sheilea

if you don't subscribe to Consumer Reports, check your public library for a copy carrying a comparison of washing machines.

I recommend a front-loading washer. They use less water, are easier on the clothing material, and clean as well as a top-loading maching. I love mine.

If you purchase a front-loading machine, consider buying a stand for it. . .or if your husband is a handy-man type, have him build one for you. It will save your back!
