At what age did everyone transition their little ones to a toddler bed or big kid bed? Just wondering for my 17 mo. old son. TIA!
We waited till my daughter was interested, then allowed her to sleep in a twin bed at night (26 months or so), but she stayed in the crib for naps. Finally, she was not interested at all (almost 3). Keep him in the crib as long as you can if he is comfy. It's just easier.
When they started climbing out of the crib. As long as he is happy in his
crib, let him be. Some kids stay in a crib until 3. Some are climbing out at
2. Putting him in abed at this age, would create problems.
I would wait as long as you can. The older he is, the better he will understand and follow the rules about staying in bed. We switched our twin daughters from cribs to toddler beds at 3 years, 4 months or so and had absolutely no problem. They were excited about the change, and it didn't feel like making a transition emotionally at all.
We just put them in twin-sized beds now, at age almost 5.
My daughter at 20 months. My son around that time too. If I could do it over, I'd have done the twin bed and skipped the toddler bed. I did the toddler bed with my son because it was still hanging around from my daughter and gave us time to save up for his bed.
The twin bed with a rail is nicer because they can keep it for longer without them outgrowing it. Also, it's more comfortable to lay in when reading stories or comforting them back to sleep at night.
ETA: Just wanted to add that we put a baby gate up in the doorway to keep them from wandering during the night. It worked pretty awesome for my son because when he woke in the morning he would play with his toys until we went and got him.
24 months. I made sure I had a gate at the bedroom door and anything in the room that he may climb was nailed or remove, or even choke (toys, etc). They are not in a crib so now we have to make sure the room is safe, now that they will be walking around on there own. I saw on Oprah a toddler choked on a button from his teddy bear. :( It made me open my eyes to alot.
14 months. We put a twin mattress on the floor.
At 3 yrs we switched him to a toddler bed. I was lucky enough that he loved his crib and stayed in it until right before we switched him. If I were you I'd leave him in the crib unless he's getting out on his own already. Then you don't have any wandering around at night, coming in your room, etc.
Do it now, the younger you do it the less issues there will be from him wandering and getting out of bed. Let him take his naps in it for a while then just start putting him down at bedtime. That way there is no transition. It just happens. All of my grand kids were in their toddler beds full time by 18 months and I did not have any issues.
About a week after my 4 kids climbed out of their cribs is when they got big kid beds. Between 2 and 3 years old.

All my kiddos went to a regular single bed at between 16 to 20 months. I bought bunk beds that could be separated...and used a 'bunky board' instead of box springs on the singles to keep them closer to the ground. Also used a bed rail on one of the beds (came as a permanent attachment for what would be the top bunk when we were ready (old enough) to be 'bunked').
Worked well for us! I have all great sleepers (and they still use the bunks now...many years later!)

My kids have never been "crib climbers", so we never felt the need to transition them early, but once we had #3, we needed to take the crib from #1 (she was 2 1/2 at the time). My second child is 26 months and LOVES his crib. I think he'd stay in there till he was a teenager, if he could. lol. He has slept in my daughter's "big girl bed" and loved it (and never fell off!), but he loves his crib.
My sister, on the other hand, had a climber, and she was moved into a double bed at the age of 1 1/2. lol.
Age 3 for all of ours. We didn't do a toddler bed either...just went straight to a twin bed and used a guard rail on the sides to prevent rolling out of bed.
The kids took to it pretty well right away. We had a room decorating party, got "big kid" bedding and let them pick it out etc. They were really excited by the time they could finally get into their big kid bed...so no problems.
my son was two and a half or so? We kept him in there as long as we could. My daughter is almost two and still in her crib! Again as long as they arent climbing out or in danger I keep them trapped. Once our son was old enough to understand that he had to stay in the bed we switched. Its kinda hard to reason with a 19 month old.
My son was 20 months old when we switched him.
We never used toddler beds, kept them in the crib til they turned 3 and then they moved to a regular twin bed. For my daughter, we had one from Ikea that was low to the ground, with my son, we started with twin mattress and box spring on the floor.
My older girl went to a full size bed at around 16 months. My younger one had the crib set up as a toddler bed for a little while and then went to a twin at around 2. No boxsprings, platform style, and of course side rails.
