She gets so mad when i try to give her milk in the sippy cup...and yes i've tried every kind of cup there is...

Hi M.--

I had the same problem with my oldest daughter. It took a long time to get her to drink milk from a sippy cup, but this is what worked for me. I have to buy special sippy cups they were from NUBY. They have a rubbery spout on them, like a bottle. Then I had to warm up the milk. Finally, I gave her nothing to drink but that cup of milk. I hope this helps.

My little boy NEVER understood how to use the sippy cup, and went from the bottle straight to a cup with a straw!
Try one of those--it was SO easy to get him off the bottle by using those.

Aww...I know that is so hard. My son was like this too. I got him to drink milk with Strawberry in it. I felt guilty about the strawberry so I biought whole-milk yogurt and put some into. He liked it. With my daughter since she has been interested in her brothers straw cup that's what I gave her. She will drink a little milk this way. I have also started giving her cereal with milk. Good luck!!! Tell us what happens!

My son did the same thing - refused to drink milk and my pediatrician told me that if he eats yogurt he could get away with not drinking milk. I started giving him the custard style yogurt which he loved because it did not have lumps of fruit in it. He is now 15 and still gobbles up all flavors of yogurt and Gogurt to go. We even tried to get him to drink milkshakes but he just doesn't like it.

Hope this helps.

Zoe did the same thing. With bottles she would suck down the milk as quick as possible. We got rid of the bottle without too much complaining... but she didn't replace the bottles with cups of milk. For a long time my daughter refused all milk and would just drink water or juice. The doctor told me as long as she is getting other forms of dairy (cheese, yogurt, etc.) not to worry. I believe after 1 year they only need 2 (or 3) dairy servings daily. I suggest you keep trying at meals. Put a little (so you don't waste much) in a cup and just put it down with the meal. Try different cups... I know it can seem like such a waste of money... but try different cups. My daughter just turned 2 is FINALLY drinking some milk again. It took trying a rubbermaid sippy box with straw. Now at least once a day she'll take almost a whole container of milk. Just keep trying. Don't give up totally.
Good luck!

Hi M., My daughter didn't like milk in the beginning either. The pedi said to make sure she has whole milk until she's 2 but one day we went out to lunch and all we could get was 2%. She chugged that cup of milk like we couldn't believe! We talked to the dr. about it and he said to give her the 2% and other whole milk dairy stuff like yogurt, cheese, etc. I don't know if it's the same for your daughter but it would be worth a shot. Best of luck to you.

M.,

I had this problem with my no 6 yo son and am just going through it w/ my 1 yo son. What worked w/ my 6 yo was a little tough love. First thing in the morning I would offer him a sippy cup w/ milk and he would taste it, get mad and throw it on the floor. I would not offer him any other drink, so after a few times of back and forth he realized that if he wanted a drink he would have to take what I gave him. Good luck.
