Hi Everyone! I am wondering if anyone uses BPA free bottles. I would like to get these for my imminent arrival (due 9 Sept) but am starting to get confused between the brands. I have researched Think Baby, Born Free and Green to Grow and at the moment am leaning towards Think Baby, but keep changing my mind. If anyone had any personal experience/recommendations it would be great. I plan on breastfeeding, but would like the bottles for night feeds and for after weening (which I'm aiming to do around 5-6 months). Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Oh my goodness - thank you all so so much for your responses! It looks as if I need to calm myself, choose one, and see if it works before going nuts buying loads of any one brand (and spending loads of money!) So thank you all for your sound advice. I'm going to try Adiri first (because I think the shape makes most sense) and start widdeling (sp?!) things down from there. Thanks again everyone!!!!

I used these after DD was in sippies. A friend uses the same kind as botles, kleen kanteens. I sit for her and we both love them. The peice of mind you get with them is worth it to us. We both breastfed and wanted the same as you. Luckily I never had to use the bottles but this is what I would have wanted and that's why she uses them now. I even have adult kanteens for everyone in the family! We love them. I have also used the safe sippy and the good thing about them is that they have a rubber around them...the bad, they leak and DD has broken 2 tops already which they replaces for free. Just thought it might be extra help for down the line.

I bought Born Free bottles and a sippy cup for my youngest when she was already 9 months old because I was nervous about all the chemicals and the BPA issue. She loved the bottles (she had been weaned by then and was on formula) and today the sippy cup is her favorite. The bottles are supposed to help prevent gas and fussiness with their nipple design, and they really did help, as my baby was extremely gassy throughout her first year and spit up a lot. It killed me that she transitioned to a cup totally when the bottles were so expensive and so great - I wish I had gotten them sooner! Good luck with your imminent arrival and enjoy it!!!!

We used the Sassy brand of bottles and my daughter really liked them. The nipple is the same shape as the Mam (Sassy brand) pacifiers we used too. There are a lot out there. For sippy cups we use Born Free, Fogo and Sigg. Good luck.

Hi,
congratulations on your new baby! I have been using Avent Tempo bottles that have disposable liners that are BPA free. The nipples are also BPA free so all is safe. I have found after trying all of the expensive brands that my son likes these best...and the disposable liners are great! Good luck!! And just a little hint...the glass bottles not only hold lots of air, but they DO break when the babies are old enough to hold/throw them themselves...doesn't matter that it says not breakable!!!!

The playtex dropins with soft plastic liners are bpa free. I have used these with my son and love them for their convenience The shape of the playtex nipple was the only one my son would latch onto because I waited to give him a bottle until he was 4 weeks old.

We are using green to grow. However, what was recommended to me is that we try one and see how it works, as babies respond to different bottles differently. I'm glad we did, because the first one we tried didn't work well for her (but worked great for a friend). (That one was Adiri, which is shaped like a breast and supposed to help with latching on).

Playtex Drop Ins are BPA free now, too, and they are a lot cheaper. IMO they are shaped more like the breast, too.

Hi V.,
I went nuts with this issue! I have switched brands 3 times (wasting a lot of $$) so I'm glad I can share my advice.

Threre are a few brand that are good like Born Free and Mam but they can be pretty expensive. Gerber Fashion Tints (color and clear bottles) are inexpensive and BPA free. We are surrently using Playtex Drop-ins and I'm pretty happy with them.

Some companies are making glass bottles (Evenflo & Avent) and those are fine too - but a little heavy.

Good luck and congratulations on your baby - how exciting!!

Hi V.,

We use and love the Born Free bottles. I have both plastic and glass and am glad to have both, although I primarily use the glass. Everything is interchangable, which I love. I started with the Born Free Gift Box available at Babies R Us and it was a great selection to try everything out. I then added from there as necessary.

Good luck!

First, congratulations! Second, we use the Born Free, BPA free, plastic bottles (our daycare doesn't allow glass, and glass, while clean and clearly BPA free, is quite heavy - these too may be a considerations). We started introducing our little one (now 8 1/2 months old) to bottles at 3 1/2 months. We started swith Avent, but it was a potential culprit of her gas. So even before the BPA news, we tried the Born Free bottles. She took right to them and her gas, for the most part, was eliminated - these bottles have a different venting system). They are expensive, but if your child likes them and the nipple, then I say go for it. However, I would suggest that whatever brand you decide to try, don't purchase too many until you know your baby will drink from it. Best of luck!

Hi. We use the Born Free and like it. However, when we first introduced the bottle (probably a little too late) my daughter refused all of them. We kept trying different brands and nipples without much luck. Finally she tookthe Nuk, with the slanted nipple. It is not a BPA free bottle, but at that point we were trying anything. Once she became completely used to the bottle, we switched to the Born Free and she had no problem.
Good luck!

Hello V.!

Currently I use the Playtex droppin style bottles with the silicone nipples. My daughters were easily able to go back and forth between breastfeeding and bottle feeding with them. They also make traveling easily. I pre-measure my formula in the bottles then take a bottle of water along for the trip, add the right amount of water, shake and its ready (without a big mess or having to keep it refrigerated & then having to heat it up).

For sippy cups I like the Avent brand. They are BPA free, made in England (not china WAHOO!!) and they have interchangeable spouts and sizes that can be catered to their needs as they grow (and they come in cute colors).

Born Free is also a really nice brand, but they are a bit on the expensive side. They are made in Isreal.

I try not to purchase items made in china whenever possible (for a variety of reasons). So for me finding both BPA free and not made in china is extremely important. With the playtex droppins you can find liners that are made in the USA! (Generic liners are cheaper but made in china).

Best wishes for a safe arrival of your newest little one!

Hi V.~
I am using the born free bottles for my baby. I like them because the nipples are softer than some other nipples. And my baby doesn't seem to be gassy after eating breast milk from a bottle, but does after nursing because it comes out SO fast from me! I haven't looked at any other BPA free bottles.
Congratulations & good luck with your first baby!! it's a very exciting time for you =)

Congratulations!

I use Born Free glass bottles with my son. I love them, but they are expensive. I don't like plastic bottles in general. Glass is so much cleaner.

If I had to do it over, I would probably just use a cheaper glass bottle. One Born Free bottle is about $10, whereas you can get a 3-pack of generic glass bottles at Babies R Us for the same price.

The only thing different is the air flow system...which may or may not matter.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hi V.,
I too breastfed the first year with my daughter and used bottles for the evening feedings and to pump. If you are planning to breastfed, I hope you also got a great pump. It is worth the money. Medela has GREAT models and all the bottles that attach for storing and feeding are BPA-free. I am expecting again and plan to throw away all my cheapy bottles and go with what will work with my pump to be safe for my baby. Good luck!

Don't quote me on this but I think that the Gerber Clear View bottles are BPA free. I used them for my daughter and they are very affordable and easy to use. I believe the only plastics that have BPA are numbers 7 and 3. I think there are many BPA free bottle out there that don't advertise that they are BPA free, maybe because they always have been?
