Chicken Pox?

Would any of you mamas out there know if Chicken Pox could start on the hiney and spread down the legs? Both of my children (ages almost 3 and 16 mths) have a rash that looks like mosquito bites going from the bottom of there hineys to the top of the back of their knees and my daughter has 1 on her tummy. They don't act like they feel bad except my daughter has also complained her head hurts all day. We have just noticed these on my son as of this morning, but not as many until this evening, and my daughters we just noticed tonight. I would think if they had gotten into something it wouldn't be in the exact same spot and it wouldn't be where their clothes are. We haven't given them any new foods I can think of and we haven't started using any new products in the house. Any thoughts or ideas. I guess I just have to wait in the morning and see if there are anymore... Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

Thanks to those that gave me some advice. The bumps never spread or got worse, they have been slowly getting better. My children have never complained of them iching or acted like they felt bad. My daughter did run a fever but only for about 24 hrs and it went away. Who knows... Thanks again.

Chicken pox usually start on the torso. What you describe doesn't sound like it and I've been through it will two of my children. Possibly bed bugs? Although it would seem odd that their arms aren't showing any rash.

Chicken Pox looks like blisters. Not like bites.

When they are new you can see fluie in them. When they get old, they dry and look scab like. Google it and view them on line.

Usually they start on the chest.

Hi~I thought my 9 month old little boy had diaper rash, but it turned out to be chicken pox. I would call your doctor and let them know. They will probably want to see the kids.

It DOES NOT have to be on the torso to be the start of chicken pox!

Good Luck!

Hi A.! It definitely could be chicken pox. My son had little red bumps on his groin area and then a few on his back. He was only 14 months at the time and I chose not to get the vaccine. Anyway, we took him in to make sure it wasn't hand/foot/mouth and the doctor couldn't tell. 4 weeks later we did a titer where they drew blood and it was positive for varicella/pox. The one good thing is the younger they get it the easier it is on them. Good luck!

Hand foot and mouth has a rash that accompanies it, but that is typically on those areas/. Also, strep throat can have a rash that spreads like this... but it's called scarlett fever when it happens. Not sure if that rash looks like bumps though or more just a "skin level" rash, if you know what I mean. Do they have fever?

You can google chicken pox and it will show you pictures of them so you know what they look like. Good luck.

It could be hand foot and mouth diesease. My son had it about a month ago and i thought he had the chickenpox also. His also started on his bottom at first I thought it was a diaper rash and then i noticed it spread.I also cought it from him.My doctor said there was no treatment for it that you just had to wait it out.It wasnt just horrible for us but I have heard that it can be pretty miserable for the kids.

Do the spots itch? Chicken pox usually itches like crazy. And the fact that your daughter is also complaining of a headache is enough to concern me that you should probably take them to the doctor. Better safe than sorry.

They start out as red dots and itch like bites. They will then turn to have a whitish pussy head (don't pop them). They can start any where. My kids started on legs and hiney area. One of my kids felt bad with them and one did not. I think it just depends. You can call the Dr. but they will ask you not to come in so as to not infect others. It is really not too big a deal. Just can't take them out for about a week. Have them take Aveno baths and take Benadryl for itching. I was glad we got them out of the way and didn't have to get the shot.

A.,

It sounds like it is a good possibility that it could be chicken pox. Fever and headaches are symptoms of chicken pox. I suggest you put them in a warm bath with some oatmeal. You will know if they spread after taking a warm bath as the warm water causes more to appear. I hope this helps. I pray for extra grace as you take care of your babies.
