My dr. had me use Selsum Blue shampoo on my son's head- and it went away within a week- worked like a charm!

Hi there. My name is D.. When my son had cradle cap, the pediatrition told me that I could use selsun blue and use a soft brush to brush it in while you are giving him a bath. Then after I gave him a bath I would rub regular baby lotion on his cheeks and the top of his head.

My daughter had a problem with this. The doctor recommended using Selsen Blue. Not the medicated type and not any other brand like Head and Shoulders. The only type that is safe is the Selsen Blue non-medicated type. It worked excellently.

My youngest had cradle cap badly and actually I discovered it was also a mild case of eczema. Try hydrocortisone OINTMENT. Don't use the cream. Also, aquafore on top should help clear it up. It makes for a greasy baby for a few days but it does help!

My son had cradle cap really bad so I know what your dealing with. I was embarassed to take him anywhere because it was so bad. I know you said you tried baby oil. Did you just put the oil on his head and leave it? You weren't too suspicific. anyway... I would always do it before his bath but my doctor told me to put baby oil on his head and take a baby brush and brush it off. it took a few times but it worked pretty good for me. And all it is is dry skin. My son has baby eczema really bad. Good luck.

I'll let you know what my Ped. told me to do with our daughter, but I would definately check with yours before you do this...She suggested getting some Selsun Blue Medicated and use it maybe 3 times a week, but don't use a lot...leave set on head for about 5 to 10 minutes then rinse completely being very careful that you don't get it into the baby's eyes. (the way she stated about the time was let it set and go ahead with the rest of the bath - should give you a 5 to 10 minute delay). I only had to do this treatment for about a week and my daughter's was cleared up and hasn't had any more problems out of it.

here's a suggestion to try:
use a drop of tea tree oil mixed with baby oil. It should come right off and never come back. Tea tree oil is an anti-viral;anti-fungal solution. you can find it out Walmart for about $5.00.

Both of my children had cradle cap. My grandma told me to use baking soda. You just mix it with water into a paste then take a comb and comb through it. Then, follow up with a shampoo.

Both of my boys had cradle cap when they were little-bitty. It is easy to get rid of. It just looks gross.

Buy some mineral oil. Before bath-time, lay baby in your lap with a towel under his head and saturate the affected area with the mineral oil. Using a baby brush, massage the oil into the area and let it "soak in" a bit. Then take the baby comb and (VERY gently) comb it off of baby's scalp. You can also use your fingers. It will probably come up in flakes, but the mineral oil should have gotten under it, so it won't hurt baby's skin.

The scalp underneath may look a little more pink than the rest....this is okay. It's new skin that hasn't been exposed before. Just be gentle.

It might take a few treatments to get it all, so don't worry if you don't get it all the first time.

Also, when you shampoo, don't worry if you don't get every bit of the mineral oil off of baby's head. Until all of the cradle cap is gone this will keep more from accumulating.

My sons doctor told me to use Head and Shoulders on his hair. He had cradle cap really bad and I could not get it to go away. The head and shoulders can be used about 1-2 times a week and leave on for just a few minutes. Then if you brush your babies hair with one of those soft bristle brushes the dry skin just comes right out. I was amazed at the difference it made. Just be careful not to leave it in too long.

You have quite a few responses:) I was told to use a washcloth when washing babies hair and not to put any soap on scalp or hair put it directly on the washcloth, and wash the hair with the soapy wash clothe. My son had it when I did not know this and when I had my two girls I washed their hair this way they DID NOT get cradle cap. This could save you some money on OIL:)I have recomended this to a bunch of new mommies and their babies didn't get it either.

My baby had cradle cap in the first couple of months and her Doctor recommended the dandruff shampoo. (Selsun Blue to be exact) We saw results after the first use. After the second use, it was completely gone. You can even use it on the forehead and other parts of the skin. You just want to make sure it doesn't get in his eyes. Good luck!

I use Arbonne's baby line (full line of products) on my 2 girls and on me in this frigid weather. At last check, they have the only baby oil on the market that does not include harmful synthetics. They also do not use mineral oil as this is an occlusive oil too large to penetrate the skin (they use plant oils instead - from the earth). Look at a bottle of mineral oil next time you are at the store... it is derived from Petroleum Oil (like we use in our cars - Yickes). Fragrance may also be bothering your baby, Arbonne does not use fragrance or dyes. I know the "pink baby smelling" lotion may be good for mom's, but not so good for our babies. We also do not use animal by-product(yuck). Good luck... this is important :)

I read through some of the responses. Both of my kids had it and I tried most of the suggestions from others and nothing worked. The only thing that did work was Selson Blue. I know it sounds crazy but my Dr. said it was Ok. It cleared it up in about two weeks of baths every other day. You only need a pea size amount and I would put it on at the beginning of their bath and leave it on while I bathed them and rinsed at the end. Try it, it is great.

Use almond oil and rub it into the scalp and use a fine toothed comb to get the flakes out. 3 1/2 months is not uncommon to still have cradle cap so don't panic.

My son had cradle cap at around that age and I tried a couple of things, too, but only one seemed to work. I tried baby oil and a fine comb, which got the flakes to come off, but they just reappeared not too long afterwards. I, too, breastfeed, and asked another breastfeeding mom at my support group I attend and she recommended a shampoo called Mustela. They have a line of products and one of them specifically says that it treats cradle cap. It is made for infants, so I felt good about using it and not an adult version of dandruff shampoo (like head & shoulders, selson blue, etc.). She told me to use it until the cradle cap went away, which we did, and it has NEVER come back!! We probably used it for about a week (about 3 or so shampoos) and also would continue to comb out the flakes during the shampoo. The shampoo is sold at BabiesRUs and is a little pricey (about $10 for the bottle), but worth it for us because his flakes drove me crazy!! Anyway, hope this helps!

This is going to sound weird but Mayo. Put mayonaise on his head and rub it in like shampoo then wash it out. do this like everyother day for a while and it works. I thought the person who told me to put mayo on my babys head was crazy but it was the only thing to make her cradle cap go away.

We dealt with this with my son as well. All I did to take care of it was use that little white "hairbrush" they give you in the hospital. When you wash your baby's head, just scrub it gently with that at the end of bath time when you shampoo. Wait until the end so it has had maximum exposure to the water. It will take a week or so to clear it all up, but I think that is much safer then putting something like a medicated shampoo on such delicate newborn skin.

My little girl (3) has been fighting this on and off since she was born. My recommendation is to get him into a dermatologist asap...they will probably prescribe Nizoril shampoo/body wash as a routine 2-3 times per week. In addition, if they start talking about adding a prescribed ointment/cream to the regiment, I recommend starting with the ointment over the cream...creams are a little more potent but if your little guy is very sensitive right now, the ointment will absorb better initially and (at least after the first treament) be easier to tolerate. The Dr. will probably prescribe either Desonide or Trimithcolne (sp?). I found the Desonide to be great if he has a rash/redness that isn't going away...this is sort of a level 1 if you want to compare them...the Trimithcolne is usually prescribed for a rash/redness that isn't going away, this is more of a level 2 and is much harsher than the Desonide. Both come in ointments and creams. After 3 years of battling this with my daughter I finally took her to Children's Mercy Hospital ER and demanded to see someone because I couldn't stand to see her suffer anymore...I had tried everything (including all the creams) and nothing worked and whatever did caused such irritation that she'd rather go without....

Another thing they might put him on is a dose of steroids to help initially clear it up. Be prepared, if they do, to experience what my family calls "roid rage." Due to the side effects of the drugs, you will have an extremely crabby baby that will go into fits for seemingly no reason...this happens to adults on steroids too...never fear it will go away with the drugs...;) Hang in there and find a good Dr....it makes all the difference! L.

My son had cradle cap when he was little. Wash his hair with baby shampoo. Comb his hair afterwards while it is still soft to kind of loosen up the stuff and comb out. It takes awhile to get rid of it. If you do this it will eventually work.

It could definitely be because of the cold & dry air. How often are you washing? He probably doesn't need a bath but once a week or so, and you don't need to use shampoo.

Baby oil worked for my daughter. I rubbed the oil into her scalp and let it set for a few minutes. Then I took a baby comb and very gently combed through to comb out the flakes. Then I washed her hair with baby shampoo. I did this every other day until it was gone. It took 3-4 treatments, and she hasn't had a problem since. I've also heard great things about olive oil.

If it still doesn't go away after using the oil & limiting hair washing, you might want to contact your pediatrician and see what they recommend.

I'll start by disclaiming that you should always talk with your child's Dr. before following anyone's advice...

That being said, here's what I did.
They used to give away cradle cap brushes in the hospital, you can sometimes find them in the stores. They have soft little plastic bristles and you get them all sudsy in the bath and gently exfoliate your baby's scalp. I got away with using a washcloth since my boy (now 2) was practically bald! I wouldn't recommend doing this more than once a week, since cradle's cap is partly an issue of oil over-production and lots of scrubbing will only increase that. Also, DON'T PICK on your baby's scalp with your fingernails! Bacteria you don't even know was there can be passed to him and you'd feel really bad about that!

After the bath apply some hydrocortizone cream. I like Aveeno's and use it for all sorts of things now. (post-facial waxing). You can also use the cream for the little acne like bumps they get on their face and for excema spots, which are common with kids who have allergies.

And, don't worry about it too much. It will clear up eventually.

My two month old daughter and her doctor suggested Cortisone Cream(1%) once a day. That is what we have been doing and we notice quite a difference. I have also heard by other mothers that Head and Shoulders Shampoo does the trick. Good luck!

All three of our kids had it. We used baby oil on their scalp and then use a fine comb and it comes right off. You will need to wash their hair afterwards because it will be really oily, but the yucky stuff comes off. Our doctor told us about this method. Hope it helps.

Use head and shoulders dandruff shampoo. It may take a couple of times to clear, but it worked! Scrub as good as you are able and let his head soak for a bit with it on and then rinse. I washed my daughter's head with the regular baby shampoo afterwards to help the smell. It worked on my 2nd daughter - wish I would have tried it sooner on my oldest! Peditrician said it was ok!

We never really went through the cradle cap phase, but we have experienced severely dry skin ... two things that we have found to work with this, that our ped says also works for cradle cap is the creamy baby oil or, even better but much more goopy - Aquaphor.

My baby girl had cradle cap for a while. I finally bought some cradle cap care (disney characters on the bottle) and used that in the bath. It loosened the flakes and I would gently peel them off while we nursed in bed. Gross, but it worked.

all these ladies know what they're talking about! for real cradle cap, the baby oil and a soft brush should work fine. (i used a toothbrush with very soft bristles) our problem was, it was actually eczema. eventually it went away but we battled it for several months (although the eczema still comes back on his arms/legs/back). it also itched so i had to watch his nails carefully and keep them trimmed so he wouldn't scratch himself. hope it goes away!

I used California Kids sensitive and fragrance free bodywash and conditioner. It works really well!

Try Mineral oil. Apply it with a cotton ball and repeat it daily. It worked for my son and was the only thing that did. Good luck

My doctor told me to use head and shoulders on my 2 sons every time they took a bath and gently take a tooth brush and scrub their heads while the shampoo is on. It took a couple weeks but it did the job and i never had a problem after that.

Rub olive oil on him & the fish oil that you are taking may be part of the problem.

When my daughters were babies, I always put lotion on them straight out of the tub, and whatever was left on my hands after the rest of their bodies I would rub on their head. Then I always took their little baby brushes & brushed their hair right after. I think with the water from the bath & the lotion it moistened it enough that when I brushed it, it made it easier to get it to come off. Hope that helps!

Our youngest son, now 17 months old, had horrible cradle cap, he was born in Sept. so he also went through the cold winter air. Our doctor told us to try dandrif shampoo, you just have to be careful because it's obviously not tear free. It helped some, it might be worth a try for your little one. And be careful if he has hair, we actually scrubbed some of his baby hair off and it took forever to grow back. They have these little plastic soft bristle hand brush/scrubbers for cradle cap. Someone gave us ours so I'm not sure where to get one, but they're out there somewhere. Good luck with everything and God's blessings on your family and your new baby.

My son had it when he was a baby and the hospital gave us Eucerin (I think that is how you spell it) anyway you can buy it at any drug store or walmart. It is thick, I just coated his head before he went to sleep and within a week there was a great improvement. It also worked great on my dry hands during the winter. Best of luck

Hi! A few of my kids have had cradle cap as well and I used bathing products made by 'Mustela.' I loved them and they really seemed to take care of the situation. Some comments regarding these products are that they don't smell very good. Personally, I like the way they smell because it doesn't have a strong perfume smell. I am expecting again in a couple of months and will use 'Mustela' right off the bat. You can find them at Nordstrom, Babyland and Kids Rooms, USA Baby and online at BabyCenter.com to name a few.

There is an overthe counter product just for craddle cap. The one I have has the Disney logo on it but I can't remember the exact name. You rub in into your babies head, wait few minutes, comb with a soft comb. This loosens up all that stuff and then wash it out. I've used it on two babies and it clears it up in one or two uses. And it's not just due to cold weather. I've had babies get craddle cap in all kinds of weather.

I have heard, but haven't tried this, that using Selsum Blue shampoo on the baby takes care of cradle cap! Just be careful not get it into his eyes. I heard this from the daughter of a dermatologist! Good luck! S.

S. - my son had it for the first 6 months or so. I just let it go away on it's own, as his wasn't very bad. However our pediatrician told us to use regular adult dandruff shampoo. Just be careful not to get it in his eyes. I've read this several places as well (mommy magazines, websites etc).

Gentle Naturals Cradle Cap Care works wonderfully. You can get it at Wal-Mart in the baby aisle.

Go to the produce section in your grocer (I know Walmart carries them) and purchase a Corn Brush. It is a really soft brush that gets the hairs off of the corn cob. Our Pediatrician used it on our second who had bad cradle cap and when we would bathe her we "scrubbed" her head with mild shampoo using the brush. During the day we would use creamy baby oil on her head to help soften it up. Worked wonderfully and even after the Cradle Cap was gone we kept using the brush and it helped it from coming back. I include one with all my baby gifts at showers.

For my daughter I made a cradle cap shampoo (Dr's Bronner's baby mild soap, olive oil, tea tree oil, and distilled water). I'd just wash her hair with it at bathtime (about once a week) and let the oil soak into her scalp a bit before I combed through it. The flakes come up very easily and it never bothered her to have it done. She is CC free now at seven months of age! :) Good luck!!!

When you say you've tried baby oil, I'm not sure exactly how you used it but it does work. When my daughter was a baby, she developed a horrible case of cradle cap. It went away after several consistant applications baby oil.

What I would do was, just before sitting down to nurse, I would put a lot of baby oil on her scalp and grab her baby brush. Then, after we were settled into a comfortable nursing position, I would "comb" her hair working the oil into the scalp and massaging the cradle cap affected areas.

Yes, it was distracting at first but I think she came to enjoy the massaging comfort and the cradle cap did go away.

A little about me:

Brand new grandmother. Three young-adult children. Work full-time.

When my 11 yr old was a baby our pediatrician recommended rubbing mineral oil on it and very lightly "scrubbing" with a baby brush. It worked wonderful and was gone for good! Hope it helps!

My little boy had a similar problem about this time last year. I tried mineral oil two times in about a months time and like you it changed some but did not go away. Very frustrated, I just let it go for a few months and tried it again when the weather got better. I put some oil in his hair before giving him a bath, waited about 5 minutes while he was playing in the tub and then washed his hair. Quite by accident it turned out that the oil did not completely wash out so I let it be a little oily for a day. The next night gave him a bath again, washed his hair and the flakes came up but they were near impossible to get out of his hair. So I bought a plastic lice comb. Because the teeth are so close together the flakes came right out and he hasn't had a problem with it since.

To help prevent dry skin in the winter I do not give him a bath in the tub every night when the weather is cold. Another reason for this is small children can get chilled easily and catch cold more frequently in the winter. Instead we do a sponge bath uncovering his top or his bottom at one time and use cetaphil creme (not lotion as it has more alcohol). I love this stuff and it lasts a long time and it works!

I have a 5 and 1/2 month old grandson who has had cradle cap almost since birth. From the information I received from the internet cradle cap is caused from hormones from the mother. It suggested using a product like Selsen Blue. You must dilute this and make sure that none gets into the baby's eyes. I have also heard that T-Gel works. When my babies were little I would also use baby oil on the cradle cap and comb through gently. It sometimes takes a while to clear this up so be patient. Hope this helps.

Do you give him a bath everyday? Our nurse at the hospital told us to give them a bath every other day. If you wash their head or hair everyday, that can create craddle cap and keep it.

There isn't any "cure" or real "treatment" for cradle cap. It's caused by the rapid growth of the baby's skull and skin. Unless it's severely itchy (in that case, it may be something else and I would talk to your Ped.) then I wouldn't worry about it.

The only remedy I know is to rub olive oil or baby oil on the scalp. Good luck!

Yes. The best thing for me was rubbing just a litle bit of vaseling on the baby's scalp. If your baby is bald then this is really easy. Put it on them at night before bed and they won't be oily the next morning. If your child has a thick head of hair then be sure to part the hair and just rub it into scalp and roots at night. I didn't try combing flakes off except when washing baby's hair. This way you don't have flakes tangled all over their head.

Don't wash you baby with soaps and shampoos every day. Only shampoo hair twice a week and comb flakes out...if there even are any after using the vaseline. If baby has eczema on skin then less soap is better. Oatmeal baths and soaps are good, too.

If that doesn't work then just a little Head & Shoulders shampoo should also clear it up. Be very careful not to get in baby's eyes.

S., have you ever heard of the Arbonne baby products? They really help with skin irriations for babies. The problem is that most baby products have mineral oil and fragrances that are an irritant to baby's delicate skin. Arbonne baby products have no fragrance and no mineral oil, only natural botanical ingredients. There is a wash and a baby oil that will help with the cradle cap. First of all good for you, on the breast feeding, do it as long as YOU want! Ok cradle cap...I took Glycerin(which is a skin protectant) and rubbed it into my babies scalp. Let it sit on their scalp for an hour or so, if you can, and longer if your baby permits. Then take a comb and GENTLY...see emphasis on GENTLY...comb off the gunk. You might need to do several times depending on baby and how much gunk there is. Try your fingernails if comb does not work. The glycerin is good for their skin and didn't seem to clog pores. Be sure to wash off when baby has had enough. I have found that as an adult, I tend to develop problems on my scalp due to cold weather. I buy the same product and use as needed. It works great and helps my hair stay healthy in the process. You can find Glycerin at Wal-Mart in the pharmacy section. Do not buy imitation!!!!
Cradle cap clogs hair folicles and prohibits hair growth. Get rid of it and keep it off ASAP!!
Ask the pharmacy personnel if you can't find it on the shelf.
Do not be alarmed if some hair comes out while combing and clearing away the cradle cap. It gets stuck in the gunk.

mineral oil worked well for me. I put it on childs head 10 to 15 min. before bathing rubbed in really well. If you have the brush the hospital used on him when he was born that works very well along with the oil at gently pealing it off.

I used arbonne baby oil very generously. I then used a baby comb to help shed some of the scales off. After a few sessions it was gone.

All 3 of my children had this... the Dr told me to put baby oil on their head and then use a fine tooth comb and comb it out. I just did it as needed till they were past this stage or whatever causes it :) Then washed their hair as normal but you may have to wash a couple of times to remove the baby oil.

All 3 of my kids had pretty bad cradle cap. The thing that seemed to work best was working the oil in & then washing the hair after the oil has had a bit to soak in & soften the crusties. Olive oil is fine, but they also sell a cradle cap oil at the health food store. Paul Mitchell makes a shampoo called 'Baby Don't Cry' that someone recommended as doing a good job. It did seem to work better than the other kid shampoos I was using. He also said working it in & then washing a second time was helpful.
Another thought is that I have heard some people say that cradle cap can be a sign of food allergies. I never went down that path, but I keep it in the back of my mind.

My daughter at about that same age had cradle cap. I used baby oil and a cradle cap brush or a thin comb (I was careful not to hurt her) but I basically scratched her head until it came loose.

try a SMALL amount of selson blue making sure not to get into babies eyes...my friend swears by it....said it made it go away completely after a few weeks and never came back. said she used it about every 3 days...good luck

I had the same problem with all 3 of my boys when they where babies. I called my Pediatrician and he told me to buy Selsun Blue. (sp?) It is for dandruff, but it works in a matter of days!! I was astonished! My sister's baby ended up with it too, and it worked for her as well. :) Just use a diluted amound and massage onto his head. Work your fingers gently on his head, and it will slowly rehydrate the areas and the cradle cap will go away!!

When my kids were little, they both had cradle cap. My peditrician recommened I wash their hair with Selsun Blue shampoo (or any dandruff shampoo)and it was gone within a week.

My daughter was only about 1 month old at the time when she got cradble cap. I believe that cradle cap is really an over production of oil. The doctor recommended dandruff shampoo, even on really young ones. Wash his hair every other day. Let it set for about 5 minutes and rinse out. I was also perscribed Hydrocortisone 1% lotion to rub on rash 2 to 3 times a day.

try a little vasoline or use the baby oil and slightly brush the head with a baby hair brush.

Cradle cap is awful and can be painful to baby's scalp if allowed to become to heavy. I found years ago the best and gentlest way to get rid of Cradle cap was to soak the baby's head as long as possible in a warm bath and then use Silk Therapy or Repair and Shine. These can be found at most Fantastic Sam's or Beauty Supply shops. Farouk is the company that designs these deep conditioning, water soluable, leave in conditioners. I used them for years on children with cradle cap as well as other skin conditions of the scalp. They can be used every day and will not build up. Once the maximum amount is absorbed into the hair/scalp the rest will remain on the surface. It needs to be used sparingly (when used regularly) a drop rubbed between your fingers/hands and then into baby's hair and scalp. It will lift the cradle cap up after a few applications. Do a heavy application and keep a cap on baby the first time or two and then use it more sparingly (daily on baby) until cradle cap is gone. Then I keep using a drop at least every three to four days, more if needed, to keep it from coming back. Also massaging babies scalp will stimulate hair growth. This will also keep the cradle cap from pulling baby's hair out. I've used it on Clients and my own Children and Grandchildren successfully for years. It's also good for your hair. Especially during the hormaonal adjustment after baby is born. After you shampoo and towel dry use a pea sized amount rubbed between your hands into hair starting toward the ends and work to the scalp. You will see adifference immediately anmd once your hair starts feeling softer you will be able to tell if you need it after a shampoo or not. I have been caring for children for 20 years and I like to rub Vaseline in my hands and then smooth it on thier head and rub it with a dry washcloth. May take a few times. Good luck!

It's the worst thing to get rid of, you are on the right track though, bathing, baby oil and combing.

I have a 8 month old daughter who had cradle cap. Just a few weeks ago, I took a comb (just an old fashion comb) and wet it down to pull her hair up on the top of her head. As I started to pull it up (pulling the comb the oppisite way her cradle cap was laying) the comb started catching and pulling up the cradle cap! It looked nasty, but the wetness and the comb were pulling it off! My baby looked like she enjoyed it (it must have felt good), and after about 20 minutes of gently combing her scalp, I had the scales all off! She is cradle cap free!!!

There is something you can buy at walmart, or basically anywhere else for cradle cap. It's by Gentle Naturals and says Cradle Cap on hte front of the bottle. You get it in the baby section where the soap and stuff is. It has a picture of Pooh on the front. It works really well.

When my duaghter was a baby and had cradle cap, the pediatrician had me cover her head with Vaseline and put a white cotton hat on her. The next next day, it took washing her hair about 3 times to get it out, but the cradle cap was gone. I found that when I used Johnson's Baby Shampoo, my kids didn't get it, but when I used a generic, they got cradle cap. For what it's worth...

I went through the same thing with my daughter. My hair stylist suggested Paul Mitchell's Don't Cry Baby Shampoo. After a couple weeks, it went away.

You can't buy it over the counter so you'll have to ask a hair stylist/salon to get it for you.

my pediatrician recommended neutrogena t-gel (it's a dark and kinda 'tar like' shampoo for dandruff). She said... Use this if you want to clear it up quickly, but it does go away on it's own, and don't pick. I used it once and it made a HUGE difference and had to use it a second time a little bit later and it cleared it up completely.
For a more natural approach...for my other baby I used lavender and chamomile essential oils in her bath and it cleared up on it's own. Hers wasn't as bad as her brothers. Hope this helps.

My daughter has eczema and she had cradle cap also because of this. The one thing that I know works, and I know it's on the expensive side, but Aveeno lotion with the dark blue cap esecially made for eczema and I would slather her in that after every bath and every diaper change from head to toe. It worked for me really well. There's also some stuff that's specially made for cradle cap by-I think-Nature's Best and you can find it at Wal-Mart. It's also on the expensive side but I don't know if it works because the Aveeno worked for me so I didn't need to try anything else.

My son had the same problem. I used the baby oil and a small comb to loosen the flakes, then washed with Selson Blue (my pediatrician suggested). Be very careful not to get any of the shampoo is his eyes. I did this every other day or every few days for about 2 weeks. After that, we never had a problem again. Good luck!

I found something at Wal Mart that is for Cradle Cap...My 11 1/2 month old had it until recently. It is with the baby products near the shampoo and says "cradle cap" on it. I think it took maybe 2 uses, but it worked and my baby's hair finally grew.

I used Craddle Cap care by Johnson & Johnson (Disney line) but another mom told me I could have used a small amount of Head & Shoulders (obviously be sure not to get it in baby's eyes) and it took her child's craddle cap away. Just be sure to put some sort of baby hair moisturizer in the hair after it dries. It took me about two applications before my son's craddle cap was gone and I used of course the J&J brand. When my son was about 2 mos. old he had cradle cap so bad that it was disgusting! I tried the baby oil first with no luck and then I talked to my pediatrician and he told me to use a dandriff shampoo like head and shoulders or pert. Just be careful not to get in his eyes. I hope this was helpful.

I've heard that if you are very careful not to get it in his eyes, you can use Head and Shoulders. A friend used mineral oil and brushing it in and she said that worked. Good luck!

I know this sounds weird but when my infant granddaughter had cradle cap the doctor said to use selsum blue shampoo for several days shampooings and then once a week for a few weeks and then as needed after that. It worked. Of course you have to be very careful to keep the soap out of the eyes so get one of those foam like hat brims they have to put around the babies head.

My daughter had that when we were in Louisville. The pediatrician suggested plain white Dial soap. It took a few days, but cleared up completely.

My sons both had cradle cap as well. It wasn't until my second son that I found a product at Wal-Mart made by Gentle Naturals called Cradle Cap Care. You just apply it to the scalp and scrap of the scales with a comb (it doesn't hurt the baby). It cost about five dollars and is in the baby section where the lotions are. I used it once and never needed it again.

My daughter had a slight case of cradle cap and my mother-in-law suggested lightly scrubbing her wet scalp with a comb or a semi-firm brush. After a few washes it seemed to take care of it. Do not put baby oil on his scalp, my mother did that to me when I was a baby and my hair fell out and did not grow back until I was about 2 years old. Hope this hleps.
