Curious.....How Often Do You Buy Yourself New Bed Sheets?

I get tired of the same 2 sets but the frugal side of me tells me the ones I have are just fine. The last set I bought was 3 years ago.
How often do people buy new sets? Just when redecorating or annually? Or not until the ones you have are threadbare?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the responses, I had a good laugh at some of them. I'm pretty sure after Christmas when all the decorations come down & the house suddenly looks bare, I will let myself buy some new sheets. All I need is one spring day with the windows open & I'll get sucked into a TJMaxx or Kohl's looking for that new fresh set..:)

I've had the same set of sheets for I think 5 years. We also only have 1 set, so I wash it and then put it right back on the same day

Not often. Maybe once a year. I have two sets and rotate them. I think I am due for new ones, but it will have to be an after Christmas sale.
Believe it or not, the sheets I buy from Target are amazing, but still arent cheap.

I bought new sheets about 5-6 yrs ago when I got a new bedspread and pillow shams. One set was white and the other blue. They are Egyptian cotton nice and soft. The blue set however has faded because I always put a little bleach in the water with my sheets. Unless you look really closely you can barely tell the white ones from the blue ones. I do have another set that are beige with a mossy green print that are probably 10 yrs old and they still look great and feel soft.

I have a sleeper sofa as a guest bed and one of the sets of sheets I use on that bed were from my bed when I was in high school and my 40th class reunion is this summer. These sheets still look great and are nice and soft. I use older sheets on this bed because I've had sheets and blankets get caught in the folds of the bed and tear when I put it away. I always keep clean sheets in this bed in case of an emergency overnight visit from one of the grandkids.

I am actually amazed that sheets last so long. Unless the sheets are torn I don't replace them.

I have a VERY thick mattress (25") and the ONLY place that has sheets that actually fit it properly is Bed, Bath and Beyond and they cost $175.

Yeah I've got ONE set and I have no idea when I'll be able to buy another LOL Even though I'd LIKE to get a couple more sets ... the chances are it won't be until I finish nursing school and have a job.

When they are worn. We are still using our sheets that we got as a wedding gift 6 years ago. Since then I have gotten 2 more sets for Christmas, but that is it. The older sheets get, the more I like them because they get so worn and soft, so I am probably not the right person to ask this question if you are looking for justification to buy new ones! ha ha :-)

You have 2 sets? Ha! Really, I wash them and put them back on. But I am continually looking at prices. I am a household stock broker. When the sheets hit my price I buy them. I sometimes have 2 sets but that's all.
Its so difficult and confusing with all the different thread counts and that's not what makes a good sheet these days. I just know it when I feel it and when it's the right price. Jan should be a good time to buy them.

I rarely buy them.
I buy high quality & they last SO long!
I but neutral stuff, so no need to ditch them if a spread or comforter changes. We've had WAY more comforter/bedspread than sheet pitchings!

I get tired too, but the banker in me says I can't afford new ones unless I need to. About 2 months ago, I needed to. The spot where I lay ripped in a perfect line about 2 feet long....

I am a sheet snob, and so I buy really high thread count ones and they are expensive of course. But, the last set I got was a Groupon, and I really lucked out! they are wonderful....lucky me!

I get a new set about every three years. I have two cotton and one flannel set for my bed. Usually, I get them at Kohl's when I get my 30% coupon, Kohl's cash and the sheets are on sale--can't beat that deal!

When something tears.
When I realize I don't have enough extras to wash one and have one on the bed when there is illness in the house and that could mean it's more often than normal that I change them.
When I see something on sale that I just absolutely fall in love with sometimes, though not always.
We keep our sheets and comforter pretty neutral and have several colors that coordinate. I buy more flamboyant pillow cases to go with the boring sheets since that's what you see more. We have a ton of pillowcases and I buy those a lot more.

Well, my sheets are coming undone at the seams, have holes at the corners...um...not even sure how long I've had them. I keep telling myself I need to buy at least one new set! It's been at least 10 years that we've had the same sheets.

When I bought a new mattress, different size than the old one, I bought 3 sets of sheets. I, too, get tired of using the same sheets. I put one set away and bring it out when I want something new. Rotate them that way.

It's been several years and I'm wanting a new set again. I think I may buy one on sale from one of those discount type stores and then I'll have two sets put to the back of the closet so that I'll have another new one every couple of months.

I buy new sheets when the old ones get holes in them. Then the old, holey ones become dog bedding.
I don't get tired of sheets - all I use them for is sleeping and sex, neither of which are activities where the decor is my point of focus.

I wait until the ones I have get a hole in them and sometimes that takes many years. I set that rule for myself but some days find myself trying to cheat it by looking for the scissors.

My kids get new ones every few months (we replace the old ones only if need be). My sheets, though, get replaced when my toes or fingers get caught in a hole! lol Actually, we get new ones about every 6-8 mos. or so. :)

My son has one set of sheets and we have one set. We have an extra set for the downstairs guest room. I just wash the sheets and put them back on. If I let them hang out they don't seem fresh anymore since I use natural detergent and it doesn't have synthetic perfumes. We buy new sheets every 5-6 years. Seems a waste to buy more often.

Frugal here. I buy new sheets when the old ones rip completely apart. But I keep 2 sets of sheets for each bed so I can change sheets but not have to wash right away.

I have about three sets I rotate. I'm too cheap to just buy them to be buying them. And I can beat Megan P's answer - I'm still using sets we got as wedding presents 19 years ago!! lol!!

Tell you the truth, I didn't even know that much about the different thread counts, etc., until my husband got a new set about two years ago when Sears was having one of their big sales. They're really nice and soft but I can sleep on just about anything.

We also have a store here - Tuesday Morning - about once a year they have a fantastic sale on their clearance items - my son is sleeping on $1000 sheets we got for about $15. Seriously!!! Had to dig thru the stuff to find them but they're really nice. (I can't even imagine spending $1000 on a set of sheets!!)

Fun question!!

Our family likes really good quality 100% cotton sheets.

! purchase a good set every year, because they wear out, being washed once a week.

If I find some on sale, I will purchase a set, just to have them on hand.

I love beautiful bedding. I used to sell linens. Thank goodness my husband also loves good quality beautiful bedding.

We bought some when we got married 7 years ago, then we bought a couple more sets when we bought a new bed last year and the old ones didn't fit our new pillowtop mattress. I'm pretty sure these will stay until they rip in a way I can't easily fix.

I think it's been about 5 years since I got sheets for our (hubby & I) bed. I know 3 of the sets are over 10 years old. We have 4 or 5 sets that get rotated. I must admit at least 3 of them need to go. However, I do buy pillowcases about every year.

I buy white percale sheets.
Wash & bleach once a week.
Just gets softer and softer over the years.
Current set is 10 years old.

A white sheet is (visually) a white sheet.
_______

My duvets are plum & lavender. (I have 2).
I have guest duvets in other colors.
But I like my own.
I change my wall colors before changing my duvet colors.
All my duvets are CK, so they age well.

I don't have a set routine.

My mom typically will buy me a new great quality set for Christmas because there is nothing I really "need or want" and I love nice sheets!!

I usually use a set I bought from Kohls that are flannel for the winter (thus far we are still at 80+ and warm weather so no flannel yet here).

I don't have a color scheme nor do I have a rigid "set up" for my bedroom..... I love high quality and I don't care what color they are as long as they are super soft.

We pretty much replace as needed but for some reason, I have an abundance of sheets for our beds. Now pillows.... that's another question!! I need ALL new pillows!

T.S.

answers from San Francisco on

Each bed has two "regular" sets and one flannel set, for winter.
I have hardly ever had to get rid of sheets because they were worn out. I usually get new ones if/when I get a new duvet or quilt because after four or five years I need a change. It's like wearing the same outfit EVERY DAY lol!
