Daughter Continuously Pees in Her Bed.

I need some advice on what I can do to keep my 20 month old daughter from taking off her diaper or pull ups during the night and at nap time from peeing in her bed. We have tried using pjs that zip up with the button, pants and t-shirts it seems like she can get off whatever we put on her.She sometimes does it when she is asleep already and other time very shortly after putting her to bed. Most of the time the diapers are dry that she has pulled off. We also have started potty training.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great suggestins. I have been putting her in the zip up onsies and putting them on backwards. And so far so good. She has not got out of them.

can she get underpants up and down? Try putting underpants OVER the diaper- or if you are potty training leave the diaper off and put a clean potty near her bed maybe...

I have the same problem and it sounds crazy, but if you put her in a zip up pj suit ( the ones with feet) but zip it up the back it works....at least mine hasn't figured out how to unzip the back yet. The only other option we found was to put her in a onsie because she can't undo the snaps. Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be!!

My son went through that phase for 1-2 weeks and we had to put an end to it quickly! We just kept getting onto him and really making it a big deal if he wet his bed after pulling off his diaper and pants. Some friends of ours suggested we try to potty train him to see if he was interested. Even though he was only 22 months and boys generally potty train later than girls, we decided to give it a try. Sure enough he was very interested and he loved sitting on the potty. He only actually went a few times and then got bored with it. So we decided he wasn't quite ready yet. I also kept putting him in the zipper fleece pj's that had built in footies and a snap at the top after you zip it up. I don't know if those are the same ones you have, but that snap at the top is very hard for my son to undo so it seemed to work and he eventually left it alone. Best of luck to you, I know there are many moms out there who have struggled and there isn't really a good solution.

I'd say she is a smarty alright. Smart enough to know she would rather be in the buck when she sleeps. She also may be a very active sleeper, meaning she does things while in sleep phase that seems like she is awake, like taking the diaper off.
Try something a little more comfortable. Try cloth pants and rubber outer pants. Might feel better. Also to protect the bed, wrap the mattress with mattress cover (waterproof) then lay down another mattress topper protector. Have extra sheets handy.
~~Always remember~ never fuss at her about it. No big deal so it may go away. Big deal and she will either develop a complex or continue for attention. (Ross Perot said kids develop self esteem at age 2 and I am a firm believer in this).
Two may be too early for potty training. Why the rush? Might be too early and its back firing.
Good luck. Remember what doesn't drive you insane will make you a better parent. :) lol
God bless you and your little one. Have fun with each other.c

I have a friend that uses the zipper up PJs but puts them on backward and even puts a safety pin through the zipper so her daughter can't take off her clothes to get to the diaper. She even has cut off the legs and arms to make them cooler in the hot weather so they look like a little wet suit. Good Luck!

A friend of mine had the same problem with her boy. What worked for her was to use zipper pjs and put them on backwards. She would cut off the feet/legs of the pjs to make them suitable for warmer weather...not the cutest way, but it definitely worked! Hope this helps!

If she's truly taking them off to urinate in bed and not wetting the bed in her sleep you can stop her by putting her in footless zipper pajamas - and put them on backwards so she can't reach the zipper. Also put the diaper on backwards so she can't reach the tabs.

Wow my first thought was your daughter is SMART! Does she do it at nap time? I'm wondering if it's in her deep sleep, she doesn't realize she's doing it... I seriously never heard of anything like this, not what you want to hear... Maybe she's peeing in the diaper/pull ups and she doesn't like that wet feeling, I know it will exhaust you, but change her in the middle of the night and see if that might help. I do think you have a smart little girl!
Good Luck

My son went through a phase of taking of his diaper after taking off his clothes. We put him in a onesie....he can't get those off so we just made sure he had one on for nap times and bedtime.
Hope this helps! You got a lot of suggestions about zip up pj's on backwards...never heard of that so if he goes through this again, I might try that. But you don't generally put pj's on for naps so maybe the onesie thing will be good for nap times for you.
Good luck!

Have you tried putting the diaper on backwards? We had to do this a few times with my daughter. Also you can use duct tape to tape it wear she can't get it off. We had to do this too a few times. I never tried using a safety pin through the zipper of the pajamas, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get them off of her in the morning. haha! It is a great idea though.

This works! I had little monster baby's that could get out of everything! I would use the diaper pins they are pretty kid proof!

Have you tried putting her pjs on backwards? They have those one piece pjs with booties. You could place the zipper in the back that would be pretty difficult.

Put a onesie on then put her jeans on over that, but put the jeans on backwards so the button and zipper is in the back... if she can get out of that then you're SOL :o)

HI A.,
Try putting electrical tape around the diaper at night. Its strong so she won't be able to get it off at night. Also maybe she is getting confused about the potty training?
Good luck.

My son used to strip at night. I put him in footed pajamas with a zipper. I'd then use a diaper pin through the zipper to keep them closed. I just did this until he was staying dry through the night. Then I didn't care if he stripped. Well. Not much.

Don't have any suggestions on how to keep her from doing it. But did want to suggest you buy a plastic mattress cover. At least that might help a little with clean up.

My eldest daughter went through the same phase. We swore that she was Houdini because she would find a way out of backward longjohns and onesies. What we finally had to resort to was a little "belt" of wide masking tape across the sticky tabs of the diaper. We went around the diaper twice and had to do this for several weeks until she finally moved on to another interest. We still used a onesie or something similar to layer over the taped diaper and always put the tape seam in the back. The masking tape comes off pretty easily so you don't have to do anything special to change the diaper after bedtime is over. I know it seems pretty silly, but it got us through this very ornery stage. :)

how much is she potty training? if she is going in the potty then she might be doing it because she doesn't want to pee in a diaper/pull up anymore, if this is the case then she needs a bed she can get out of & go to the potty, or at least get out of & have a potty chair in her room

I'm not recomending this for day time, but at night you may try cloth diapers with a safty pen, so she won't wet the bed. She may not be ableto get them off.

Try the pjs that zip up, but this time use a safety pin thru the zipper and the fabric, the kind of pins you use for a cloth diaper..

I did this, my daughter fought it the first time and then kept asking me why we were "LOCKING HER UP". We did this a couple weeks. I just saying she could only get the lock off by leaving diaper/pullup on then she finally understood!

Good luck

ha ha ha ha ha. this is the funniest thing i have read so far. The girl wants to be free when she sleeps. I suggest you put one of those mats and a towel under her sheet so that her mattress does not get ruined. get her to pee before bed. it is training time. yes.

Sounds like to me she is ready to be a big girl. Try limiting drinks 1-2 hrs before bedtime to avoid bed wetting accidents and put big girl panties on her. If she is smart like my 3 year old she is growing up fast and is ready to move out of the pull ups and be like mommy. My daughter told me right before her 2nd birthday that she was a big girl and didn't want to wear pull ups anymore. I was at the store putting them in the cart and she had a fitt and said "no mommy I wear panties."

Well, you could always use duct tape to tape the nighttime diaper on. While it is possible potty training would help, it seems that she is only doing it at night, which really is not a potty training issue in my mind. Another friend used the zip up pjs with the snap, but she also used a safety pin through the hole of the zipper, and attatched it to the pj's, under the snap. Of course, if you have not tried it..putting them on backwards may help. Ahh..I dont envy this one...sometimes a smart kid is more of a burden than a blessing! Good luck ~A.~
