Hey everyone- I'm in high strung planning mode for my daughters 1st birthday party. It's the first Saturday of October. I need some suggestions and tips for cost effective games to go along with my theme. Also any idea for decorating, and the cake. I will have a variety of ages boys and girls at the party. I plan to have a bouncy in my back yard to entertain the bigger kids. I was thinking of doing some face painting, having a bubble machine, and other games for them to win prizes. I have purchases some gifts for the games with the Strawberry Shortcake theme, and also a few gifts for games of a boy just in case they win. I know they would prefer a non-strawberry shortcake gift. Anyhow, I really as you can probably tell want this to be a special day full of fun things to do. I know she won't remember a minute of this day, but I will. As a child I never had a birthday party, so I have decided to make every party special if I can. Anyone who has any creative ideas I sure could use them. THANKS !!!

What can I do next?

We had my daughters birthday at a local park for her first birthday, also the first weekend of October. This year it's the 6th and I am also torn as to what I'm going to do.
I had an idea of having a few tables with different activities. Like one table would be for kids to play with play-dough, another table for leggos, another table for finger painting...etc. Unfortunately my husband nixed the idea, but I love the idea and since you're doing it at home, not only can the kids choose what they want to do, they'll also have the very cool bouncy to jump in.

I'm not sure where you are located but I have all of my cakes made at Cake Affairs on FM 1960...I know they have a couple of other locations in Houston. They make fabulous cakes that taste as good as they look. One year they made an actual Princess Castle it was amazing. Don't forget to get her own personal cake that she can dive into.
I rented bounce houses for both of my girls on their first birthdays...I couldn't get them to come out for cake. Have fun and don't forget to have one person in control of your camera capturing her every move...that way you can be in the pics too.

I know it may sound a bit cheesy but my daughter had a first birthday party this weekend and we also did a pinata. We did have a moonwalk but the pinata was so much fun. This way all kids get a prize(the candy) and they make strawberry shortcake ones. I saw them. Older kids love this and it usually makes everyone laugh because they are hard to break-let the little ones go first. Hope this helps:)

I used a cupcake theme for my little one's first birthday and it came out really cute. I got most of my materials from birthdayexpress.com and they have a lot of themed items. I know that Michaels or Hobby lobby has a cake pan in the shape of a cupcake that is really cute. I made 2 cakes in that pan and it came out awesome. I don't know about games since we didn't really play that many, but I hope I helped a little. Have fun!!

Hey there~
Congratulations on your girl turning 1! It is a milestone! And I had huge parties for both of my boys first birthdays! Afterall this is your celebration too as a mother, its her birthday, but your birthing day.
You could always check the dollar store of Target's dollar section for games.. sometimes they have wooden tic-tac-toe games, or checkers, or blackboard and chalk etc
lots of luck!

IF its an outside party you really dont want to go all out in decorations because of wind or possible rain(sorry). I had a moonwalk at my daoughters 1st and she was asleep during the most of the party. For games go to different websites and look for pictures of Strawberry shortcake and you can do a coloring contest, or pront out a big enough one and do pin the hat on her or something to that effect, But good luck, hope u have a great party.

I guess I am into more life affirming things than the games and big blow ups. Each year, for my daughter's birthday, I had friends and family write a note about their favorite memory or event that happened related to my daugther and them. For small kids, I had adults help them by transcribing what they would say. Then I put them in a memory book. Each year I used specific paper that would reflect her age. For first year I found some pretty baby paper, for second year some Pooh & Piglet paper, and as she got older it was more sophisticated. When she turned 19, I gave her the memory book and we spend hours from time to time reading over her memory book. Some contributors have now passed on and many are still with us. She loved it so much, she started one for each of her kids. I sent these out with the invitation and asked that it be kept secret. For the little kids contributions, their "scribes" pulled them aside and asked them quietly what their favorite thing they have done with my daughter. They were so busy playing they would forget after talking to us that they would never mention it to her. I took pictures of each person that attended and put them with their letter. It was a fun way to see how the kids grew, how she changed over the years, not to mention how us adults aged, some gracefully and some not so gracefully, and the fun stories people told about her. Of course I made my own contribution each year. I included her accomplishments and special things we did together.

She cried when I gave it to her and so did I. We usually cry together when we work on her two daughter's books after each birthday. I have done one for my son as well though we don't always have bday parties for him as he is a special needs child and can't handle the excitement or crowd of a party atmosphere too easily so we limit it to close family. Friends also make their contributions and he feels like his birthday goes on forever because his friends usually spend a week meeting privately with us to do presents in a low keyed manner. We play a game or two with each and have cupcakes until I never want to see another cupcake (which usually lasts about 2 weeks after we are done!!!!) So basically we have "mini parties" for a week or so.....try planning that out....lol.

WEll good luck on your daughter's party. Focus more on relationships than the party though it sounds like you have a good time planned. Throw in a hot dog or two cooked on a grill with plenty of chips and juice and a good time will be had by all.
