I'm looking for a dollhouse to get as a birthday gift for a soon to be 2 year old. Hopefully one she can grow into but still enjoy now. any suggestion? We can always put away small pieces until she is older. What did you like about the dollhouse you have and what didn't you like?

What can I do next?

We got my daughter the My Loving Family dollhouse for Christmas last year(she was 3 at the time). She loves it. I love all the different rooms they have available for it.

they have a nice one from lakeshore learning store. it's a little pricey, as is everything there, but it's cute. my two yr. old likes to play with it at the library. lakeshore is on the south side of hall rd, just east of babies r us and bed bath and beyond.

My girls are 2 and 4 and they LOVE their Fisher Price Loving Family Doll House! There are a ton of accessories that you can buy, and the pieces are of really great quality. There are no tiny pieces, either...Good luck with your search. There are a ton to choose from!

This may seem totally out of left wing, but have you seen the dollhouse bookcases through pottery barn kids? Of course they are expensive, but i think it is a nice growing piece of usable furniture.

My dollhouse was one of the plastic Barbie three story things in the 80's. It didn't stop me from using every other toy I had that would fit in the shelves to play house. As an adult I really admire the intricacies of classic dollhouses, but I think anything that is too "nice" or "expensive" just limits use for a younger child.

Good luck!

I would recommend the Fisher Price Loving Family Dollhouse. It also comes with twin babies. I WISH I would have gotten that for my daughter. Instead, I bought her a $300 cute wooden victorian dollhouse by Melissa and Doug. It did not come with people, so I got the people from the Loving Family Dollhouse to go with it.

Make sure it has a bathroom, bedrooms for the kids. And the most important thing to little girls will be does it have a baby!! The majority of her time spent playing with the dollhouse is doing something with the baby - putting it to sleep, playing, etc.

try your local teachers store the doll house are more child geared last longer and you can start small and add as the child grows wich helps keep thier interest in the doll house so you get more value out of it. i bought one for my granddaughter when she was 3 she still plays with it now and she is 8 the local teachers store buy me are lakeshore teaching store on hall rd. near vandyke and learning kissmos(kizzmos unsure of the spelling) it is located on van dyke and stephens or 10 mile. if these are not by you looking in your local yellow pages under school supplies.

Don't buy the Barbie 3-story doll house. It was around $100 and everything has fallen or broken off it. Plus, the furniture that it comes with is too oversized and has also all broken. I think it's the Fisher Price Family one that my oldest daughter had when she was little and that was the best!

We purchased the Fisher Price My First Doll House ($39.99) on-line through Toys R Us. It's perfect for younger kids. It comes with a few pieces included, I believe it was a mother, father & child. You can purchase separate room sets (bedroom, living room, child's room, stroller w/ grandma) for around $10.99 each. This doll house was perfect for our 2 year old. There were enough pieces and accessories to hold her interest but they were age appropriate (bigger, chunkier, easy to handle, not small pieces that could be ingested or lost). The price was nice too because it wasn't a huge investment in a toy I wasn't sure if she would love.

She plays with it A LOT and even her older brothers like to play with it. The boys regularly perform "raids" on the dollhouse with Transformers, Ben-10's and Spiderman =)

Hope this helps!

I just bought the Fisher Price Loving Family Doll House with twin babies....HUGE hit! My girls love it, and I have to admit that I do, too. The add on furniture and accessories are great because I can get something here and there if needed, but the Little People seem to have invaded, anyway. Good luck!
