Double Stroller for Infant and 4 Year Old?

We are pregnant with baby number 2 and our daughter will be almost 4 when the new baby comes. I have been researching double strollers and really am unsure what to do about a stroller for such a large age gap. DD does like to walk instead of ride often but she is a "handsy" kid and often has to be strollered so she doesn't run or constantly pick up things particularly out shopping. I carry a lightweight Maclaren stroller for those times. We have been looking at the Phil and Ted’s buggy but they are so expensive that I hate to invest in one if I will only use it for a couple months. We also travel often and DD does use a stroller since she can’t keep up walking all day.
Any moms out there that have kids 4 years apart…what do/did you do for a stroller? Is it worth investing in a double or is there a better solution?

What can I do next?

I have 14 month old twins and a 3 y/o. I purchased a double stroller because I thought I HAD to have one with twins, and I have used it only a handful of times. It is heavy, very difficult to turn and such a pain! (and I researched it and i]thought it was one of the better ones!) I was thinking this week, that it definitely hasn't been worth the investment. (and I have twins, not even using it for children with and age difference such as yours....) I am thinking I am going to buy something I found online that is manufactured by Lionheart company that actually attaches two separate umbrella strollers together. I think I will get much more use out of that.....

My kids are around 4 1/2 years apart, and just got a Sit-n-Stand when son turned 2. Wish I had gotten it earlier! You can put the carry-car-seat on the back and the older in front to start (though a little difficult with heavier in front) and then after first year, they can trade positions. Bummer for a bottom basket, but can be worked around. I found mine used on Craigslist in good condition for $15.

Good luck and congratulations!

We use the Joovy Caboose (it has an infant seat attachment piece for the first six months of the babies life.) My daughter is almost 6 and my son is almost 3 and we still use it occasionally for those times where we will be on foot for most of the day. The lighter kid always has to go in the front, though, or it is impossible to steer. It is great for my daughter b/c she can get in and out as she pleases. There is a strap for the back seat, though, for those times you don't want your daughter getting out so easily. It is a sit-and-stand type stroller, so your daughter can choose how to ride. Our only complaint on the stroller is the lack of storage space...the under carriage is very small!

Seems like a double stroller would be a waste of money with a child that is 4. Maybe check into a sit and stand type of stroller. Or I had something called a "Buggy Board" that attached to the back of a single stroller. My older daughter could stand on it when she was tired of walking. It flips up when not in use or you can also remove it.

We had a Sit 'N Stand. LOVED it! Too many points of interest about it to go into detail, but versatile, and my older kid loved it, too. Good luck!
