Elmo Obsessed Baby!

My 17 month old is absolutely obsessed with Elmo and wakes up in the morning calling HIS name and not mine! ; ) We currently have Elmo in Grouchland which she loves to watch daily, multiple times if I let her (I am sure many of you can relate!)...are there any other movies with Elmo out there other than the Elmo's World series? Thanks for the help, my sanity depends on it!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your responses, I will have to check out the other Elmo DVDs recommended. Just to clarify too since I have received some private messages about the topic of letting my 17 month old daughter watch television...she does NOT watch Elmo all day long unsupervised and I DO stimulate her with mommy and me interactions, as well as singing, dancing and "learning" all other sorts of fun, educational activities. I too have read what the APA says about limiting tv time and was also in research before I decided to stay at home, so I am well informed on the negative impact that could potentially exist. I appreciate the concern about my daughter's cognitive stimulation, but rest assured that she is NOT raised by the television. This question was not meant to begin a debate on the ramifications of tv on children, only to determine if other Elmo DVDs existed. Thanks again Moms for all of your suggestions on Elmo...and for listening, I just needed to get that out!

I had to chuckle a little when I read this because my oldest was obsessed with her stuffed Elmo and had to have him wherever we went and also liked him on TV too. She was about 2 when this started and she gave him up at about 4 when she started going to school. A couple of years ago my youngest found him (the same one..I hung on to him because he was Julia's first) and has been carrying him around and he has to sleep next to her bed. My girls are both Down syndrome so the age attachment is a little different for them, but my youngest picked him up at about 5 and still has him at 7 although not as obsessed as before. These things are normal and she will outgrow it, there are worse things she could be doing....lol Have fun with her...we found an Elmo and sharing movie too!

Since Christmas is coming, I have to add that my kids love Elmo's Christmas Countdown. In fact, we have Christmas in July at my house! There are other Elmo Christmas movies too. I think it is Elmo Saves Christmas and Elmo's World Happy Holidays. My kids also enjoy the Sesame Street's Kids Favorite Songs DVD's that have lots of Elmo on them! Good luck and God Bless!

Un obsess your daughter! Get rid of Elmo altogether. I think he's overrated and annoying. Teaches terrible English and grammar and I'm glad I never had anything to do with Elmo in my house for my kids.

There's more to Sesame Street than Elmo.

Don't really like to admit this but....... my daughter is 19 months and she goes to sleep at night with a video. She likes the Elmo going to sleep one. Not sure of the correct name but it teaches them to go to sleep.

If you have DVR or a VCR for that matter, record several eposides of Seasame Street. Then like every other day let her watch an epsoide of two. I have a two year old who loves Elmo as well. We bought a "Tickle me Elmo" and she was afraid of it, so we put it up and purchased a plush Elmo doll at Wal-Mart that talks but doesn't jiggle when you push the hand. It just talks and she loves it. Well best of luck because I have a 2 yr old daughter who loves Elmo and Zoe.

K.; i dont know of any movies, sorry , but my son was obsessd with wizard of oz soooo much he had the dance down pat for the scarescrow, it was sooooo cute, i wish i had time to video tape it, but could not, they outgrow their little fettishes eventually, just be happy , dont fret over it, life with little play mates makes your child happy, and gives them a sense of security, enjoy them soon their freinds may be a bit worrisome than elmo, ahahaha thanks bringing back that fun memory of my son, hahaahah he is now 21, ahahahah D. s

I smiled at this one because my daughter (now 4 1/2) was OBSESSED with The Wiggles from 18 months until 2 1/2, specifically the red Wiggle, Murray. Murray went EVERYWHERE with us: Bible study, out to dinner, to the park, to the library. We took her to see The Wiggles and even made her a shirt that said "I (HEART) Murray!" One of the benefits was that if my daughter was doing something she shouldn't have been, I "talked" Murray about it in front of her, and she usually changed her tune.
Having shared that, I will say that thrift stores are treasure troves of Elmo movies-- as long as you still have a VCR. We got Elmo Says BOO at the thrift store on VHS recently. I have seen a number of other Elmo videos there in the past as well! Also, try Once Upon a Child. Good luck, and try to treasure these times-- they make for great stories to tell your little one when she's older.

K.,

My daughter loved Elmo at this age! She had the stuffed Elmo's (we had several just in case one got lost) and they went with us everywhere! We even had to have her Christmas pictures made with Elmo because she wouldn't give him up. Now we look back on those pictures and think it's really sweet (she will be 8 years old next month).

I wouldn't worry about it as at this age they like things to be the same routine...hence watching the movie over and over. To them they like what is consistent and don't realize it's driving mom and dad crazy. :)

Good luck and hang in there as everything will work out fine. :)

My 17 month old loves Elmo too. You are not alone! I bought him Elmo's Farm Animals, and he won't watch it, he only will watch Elmo in Grouchland. I have no idea why. I saw something about a new movie coming out. If you go to Sesame Steet's web site, they have an Elmo page, with a bunch of stuff on there. I am sure they have other movies listed there that you can buy. I am sure it will pass eventually!

Hi K., My daughter now 10 LOVED Elmo. The best Elmo movie is Cinderelmo. I even liked it (the first 10 times)lol. The other two that were great were "The Great Numbers Game" and "The Alphabet Jungle Game". (by Sony Wonder) I can't believe how quick she learned her alphabet and numbers with those 2 movies. My second daughter loved Barney. All kids are so different soon or later she will like someone different. Best place to get the movies is www.half.com or resale shop/thrift store. Good Luck and be sure to get Cinderelmo.

How cute! Elmo was the first stuffed animal my son "talked" to. He's five now and recently evicted his Elmo toys from his room, explaining, "I'm too old for that now." So, she will outgrow it.

We liked Elmo Visits the Doctor. It's cute, educational, and not too much Elmo for the adults to handle. There's a really funny song at the end, which my husband and I still like to sing.

Enjoy!
