Hi all!! I plan on going to Fenway Park with my 2 children. Is there any recommended places to stay that are in walking distance to Fenway and near all of the touristy stuff? Everything that I am finding is $500-700/night. I'm looking for a reasonably priced place, in a safe area and where I will feel comfortable walking with my children. And Clean of course!!
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!

What can I do next?

Will you be using a car or relying on mass transit? I don't recommend a car in Boston proper if you can avoid it. The streets are often narrow, and parking can be expensive. If there's a game, everything within a half mile of Fenway is at absurd rates.

Fenway Park is on the Green Line of the MBTA mass transit. There are 3 lines that fan out like fingers reaching westward from the Kenmore Square area. The B line goes along Commonwealth Ave., the C line goes down Beacon Street, and the D lines goes from nearby Copley station down Huntington Avenue. The stations are underground subways at Kenmore and east, and street level trolleys heading west.

Mass transit is easy in Boston - at least it will be after the snow is gone.

When my son's track team traveled to Boston for regional races, they always stayed at the Holiday Inn Brookline/Boston 1200 Beacon Street Brookline. There is a restaurant on the premises and many local family-friendly places within walking distance.

If you are a AAA member, you can get great info from their free travel service.

Another Mamapedia mom traveled to Boston a few months back and she stayed with her kids in the Charlestown area. I can get the info from her if you want (there are a lot in the area). She and I had extensive emails back and forth to brainstorm.

How old are your kids? The types of tourist stuff you will want to do will vary tremendously based on their ages and the length of time you will be here. Have yo identified other attractions? Science museum, Aquarium, Art museum, Children's Museum, Boston Common/Public Garden, Esplanade along the Charles River, the Freedom Trail (including Paul Revere's House, old cemeteries, Faneuil Hall & its museum are just a few ideas), waterfront, North End (Boston's "Little Italy"), Bunker Hill….the list just goes on and on.

I can't believe $500-700 a night is routine - not at all. Give me some additional info and I'd be happy to help more.

I also always check tripadvisor, even if I'm using one of "my" timeshare spots. Some are not as good as others.

We had actually planned to go there this spring break, but had to cancel due to some unforeseen circumstances. We had booked to stay in Burlington. It's about 30 minutes outside of Boston if I remember correctly, but it was under $100 a night AND offered free breakfast. I used to live in Bedford and as a high schooler would catch the bus to get to the T. So you don't have to stay right in the city to get around using mass transit up there.

My husband and I went to boston and NY last year. We did not use a hotel in boston so I cant help you there but I can share other ways to save some money.
I know it is difficult for us California girls to wrap our heads around the public transportation system in the east. But do remember it is extensive, and cheap.
Sign up for Alaska Air deal alerts for flights. We got flights out of San Diego direct to Boston for $99/per person/each way. (so for the 2 of us it was $396).
Hubs has family on the cape so we stayed at their house and made the commute up to Boston (about 90 mins each way). The train does not go all the way to the cape BUT we did not realize that we could have driven up about half way and then taken the train. So that was a bummer.
IF you rent a car do not rent from the airport. Rent downtown for half the price. We took a cab DT (again with the californa girl vs. public transportation) which was about $30. BUT we found out the Silver line (bus) goes from the airport to DT for free. It would have been a short walk to the car rental. The return trip (which we did) was $2/pp. We didnt find an area in Boston to us that felt unsafe. Parking in DT is EXPENSIVE and anywhere near fenway park on game day is expensive parking too. At fenway we did the batting practice ballpark tour before the game. Even this yankee fan loved the tour. We had to get game tix through Stub Hub as the Sox were playing my beloved Yankees. We also did the Freedom Trail tour (with a guide). We got some yummy treats at Mikes Pastry in the North end (Can I have you bring me some pastries home? I'm only half kidding.) I never felt unsafe in Boston one second. Good Luck on your trip! Have fun!

My husband and I went to Boston (and visited Fenway Park) last spring and we stayed in a lovely Brownstone that we found on VRBO.com. We always stay in homes or condos when we travel so that we have more room, extra bathrooms, and a kitchen. It's usually much cheaper, too. The brownstone we stayed in was only $150 a night and was extremely nice.

We are from Texas and never use public transportation, but it was so easy to figure out in Boston. We went all over the place with no trouble. We did rent a car because we wanted to drive to Maine to visit friends, but while we were in Boston we walked everywhere.

Have a great trip!

if you're looking for something more reasonably priced you may have to go a wee bit further. There's a Hotel indigo in Newton, MA , right by the Riverside line of the green line of the subway that goes to fenway (hopefully the snow will have melted and service will be back to "normal" -- lol ). I'm not sure of the prices (but not $500-$700), but it was clean when it was the Holiday Inn and the area is decent and easy access to public transit There some nice ones (Courtyard/Marriott, Best Western and Embassy Suites/Doubletree) on the Rt 128 corridor in Waltham but you'd need to drive from there. Look in Cambridge and Brookline too; you might find something near public transportation. BTW: I don't recommend driving around Fenway/Kenmore during a ballgame, particularly maybe, but I don't know, if you'll be there on Marathon DAy ---Oy Vey!!! I apologize for rambling on and on.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy your stay

We take our son to Boston Children's for medical treatment. When we go, we always stay at the Longwood Inn (123 Brookline Ave). It's about .6 miles from the hospital and 1.2 miles from Fenway. We've walked to Fenway more than once. There is also a T stop close by that goes to Fenway (I think). The Longwood Inn is like a bed and breakfast without breakfast. There are 21 rooms and they're all different. We've stayed in 5 or 6 different rooms. They all have their own bath. We love it. It's like a home away from home. I know people stay there during baseball season, so it is convenient to Fenway. The Longwood Inn is located in Brookline, which is upscale.

Here is the website: http://longwood-inn.com/

There is also the Inn at Longwood. That is a regular hotel located adjacent to Boston Children's Hospital.
