Have you asked around in your circle of friends? You may be able to find another family planning to have one anyway.
My sub has a sub wide sale I was planning on participating in, but didn't have a great deal of stuff. Some stuff was great/new. I had two friends bring stuff over and also stayed to help some of the time. We all made money and gained space-happy all around.

We were moving and I didn't have time to put a full day into a yardsale while having a 4.5 year old.

I got all of my baby/kid stuff together, took pictures of it, posted it on Craigslist with ALL MUST GO, MOVING, $XXXor best offer (hoping that I'd get about 2/3 of what I asked for). I did - one person came and bought it all for cash.

This might work for you.

You would need to do a google search for shops in your area that might help you arrange and get things ready - I would look for "estate" companies - they can stage your home or garage and sell the stuff. They will either charge a flat fee or a percentage of the sales price.

If not? Then call Goodwill and arrange a pick up of everything and take the tax donation. Make sure your list is complete and take pictures since you might a lot of stuff...

If you don't like the fees people are charging - take the plunge and do it yourself. It will be hard the first time - however - if things are priced to sell - you will find you get rid of a lot. Things may be valuable to YOU - but to others? Not so much. It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Good luck.

I have no iodea why some people think it takes a lot of work to do a yard sale. I don't get it.

Sit outside and sell your stuff. Its not rocket science.

When I lived in Tempe, AZ, I worked for a neighbor who had a business organizing and running garage sales. This was a side line to her antique business. You might ask at antique malls to find someone.

We sorted, priced, and manned the sale. I see them advertised here in Portland when I drive thru neighborhoods. The company posts a sign in the front lawn of the current sale naming their company and giving a phone number.

I'm sure that a large area such as LA will have such businesses. You could also look in the want ads advertising garage sales. The business will identify themselves in the ad.

Do an internet search under "Estate Sales" or check the yellow pages. The advantage of using an estate sale company is that they usually have a a'following" and can greatly increase the foot traffic. The downside-- they'll charge 50% or more of the proceeds.
