I used them and still use them on occasion. I think they are OK but not great. I ended up switching to bum genius because the cost of buying gdiapers ended up about the same as disposable (although it was environmental reasons why was using them). They have a tendency to bunch up because nothing is holding them in place. Diapers that are poopy definitely leak into the liner and we had some issues where wet ones did too. If you use them bring a change of clothes for this reason. Good luck and congrats!

We used them at first - and our son grew out of the first size in about 2 weeks. He's not exceptionally large - he is in the 14 percentile for weight. Seemed too fast for me so we stuck to the Fuzzibunz. I love them. Never had a leak or a blow out. Never had one with gDiapers either, but I stay on top of the diaper changes.

Hi,

We are a cloth diaper family, but tried them for two weeks when we travelled to Europe in the Spring. They were a disaster. We had two blow outs and caused a toilet to overflow trying to flush them. When the flushable pad gets wet, it squishes together as it starts to break down. If you don't change it immediately, then the baby poops, the poops misses the now contoured insert and gets on the vinyl liner. We ended up having to change out the vinyl liner almost every diaper change, and wash the outer covers by hand each night.

You are better off using a quality cloth diaper cover like THirsties with a folded prefold inside.

Not to mention that the medium/large flushable inserts cost nearly $0.50 each. Most calculations will show you $2500-3000 to use g diapers. 36 onesize cloth diapers will last birth to potty learning and cost around $600.

Plus, we just resold 8 of our used ones on Craigs List (after two years of use) for nearly half what we paid for them.

Happy to chat more about cloth diaper options, if you would consider them.

Hi there~
I tried GDiapers with my second son.
- They didn't work right when he was born (so I used chlorine free newborn disposable.) My son was 7lbs 12 oz when he was born and at the time they didn't make a cover under 8lbs.
- When he was big enough to wear them they kept leaking because I couldn't get them to fit high enough. It was kind of like they were made to fit a girl not a boy.
My son is now 8 months so they might have fixed the above. However, I would get just a couple of Gdiapers, some disposables and see what works best for you.

We now use cloth diapers with a diaper service & I absolutely love it!

I do like them. A bit pricey though, but I like them a lot. They fit my daughter extremely well, and its all about what fits your child, and when she was younger they were the only diapers that actually contained her blowouts (which, thankfully, she doesn't have anymore).
You can order the inserts through diapers.com and get free shipping. If you are just starting out, get the baby shower deal from gdiapers.com. It's the best bang for your buck (unless they have come out with something new). gdiapers also has a buy ten get one free program. good luck,.

Helaine,
I used gdiapers for my first and as they did leak a bit I loved them. I would buy extra liners if you go with them. I also used disposables when we were out of the house so as to not have to deal with the clean up.

Good luck and congratulations!

I use BumGenius cloth diapers and absolutely love them. I don't have personal experience with gDiapers, but a friend of mine uses them, and she ended up buying the BumGenius and using the gDiaper inserts in them. For me, if I am going to be washing the cloth anyway, might as well wash the whole thing, and have no waste, but that is me. If you have any cloth diaper questions, I would be happy to answer them.

I tried them and HATED them. They leaked they were a pain to get on. If you are looking for a free class to take on the variety of options out there you can take a look at www.oursweetbeginnings.com. She has a class that talks about all the different cloth diapers on the market. We choose disposable in the end after much debate. The hubby just would not budge and with daycare disposable was the requirement. Good luck in your search.

We use gdiapers and love them. My daughter is 18 months old and we started using them when she was 6 months old. Just like they say on the website there are times that they may not fit perfectly. There was a three week window when the smalls were too small and the mediums were too big so we used disposables. One thing I do not know about is if you are going to nurse your baby and how the gdiapers will hold up. To be blunt, their poop changes when they are on solids and I remember thinking that I would probably have a lot of leaking poop diapers when my daughter was exclusively nursed, her poop was soooooo runny. But we didn't discover them until after she had started solids and her poop was more consistent.
I find you have to change them a little more often than disposables, but the good that they are doing for the environment out weighs that to me. Occasionally, she gets some poop on the liner, but I just throw it in the wash and it is not a problem.
We do not use them when she is sleeping either. She naps for four hours and that seems a little too long for the gdiaper.
Also, we own four gdiapers and that seems to be a good amount for us.
Hope that helps.

Hello - I started with gdiapers for my first child and switched after about a month. They require much more time than disposable. they are a great idea and system, but the liners do leak - often - so if you use them, be prepared with:
1) buying many extra liners
2) have a place to put the dirty ones, until you can move your baby to a safe spot and then carry the dirty ones into the bathroom to flush
3) you'll be washing the outer shells a lot and they do not dry quickly, so buy extra shells too.

My schedule was exhausting and too busy, so I switched to another great eco alternative called Nature Babycare diapers. you can order them through amazon (cheapest) or some babies r us stores sell them. good luck!

They don't work on newborns, but I have been using them on my son since he was about 6 weeks old. I really like them. We have both the cloth and disposable inserts. You do need to change the baby more often than with disposable diapers, and they are more exepensive, but much better for the environment. In addition, we used just disposable diapers on my daughter and she got horrible diaper rash in the summer. My son didn't get diaper rash at all using the gdiapers. I would definitely recommend them!

Hi Helaine!
I loved gDiapers when I used them. Wash only when really dirty, the snap-in inserts rinse easily, and the absorbent inserts are compostable, bio-degradable, or flushable. In short they rock. Really should be washed with an all natural gentle detergent. They've probably improved since I used them 3 years ago.
We stopped using them because when I crunched all the numbers, btwn gDiapers, cloth, & disposable. Cloth wins out for value (especially with more than one child) every time. BUT neat thing about g's is they can also be used with cloth inserts so I'm considering doing that this time around.
Hope this helps!
Good job mommin'!

Hi, My daughter is 15 months old and I was tired of buying diapers, so I decided to try g diapers. It was a huge step outside the box and I love them.
We did have ALOT of accidents at first, but the longer you use them the better they get. I am using the washable cloth refills, but have used the biodegratable refills as well, really like them both. If you choose to get them just remember to check and change frequantly. My daughter is in daycare all day, and was worried about this, but my carecare provider seems to do fine with them. I hope you choose to try them they are worth it, I think.
I did alot of research on them, and even called the help hotline. They were alot of help.
Long stoy short, She's been in them for about 2 weks now, and don't think i'll go back to pampers.

Helaine,

I used them and then switched to regular cloth diapers. I found the prefold & covers less messy then the g diapers in a sense.

Check out Giggling Green Beans in Denver, CO. http://www.the-giggling-green-bean.com/ If you are planning on spending the money for the gdiapers then maybe you should look into the prefitted diapers where you wash the inserts & diapers instead of having to keep going to the store to purchase the inserts. I wanted to avoid having to go to the store for diapers or inserts! One stop purchase was what made me switch to the regular cloth.

I started with throw aways, then transitioned with gdiapers for a month or two, then went completely cloth. Honestly I couldn't be happier now & wish I would have started out with cloth completely in the beginning!

Good luck in finding whats right for you - C.

G diapers are great! They're made from organic cotton, and the liners are 100% biodegradable. That means instead of taking 500 years to decompose they only take about 50 days. Also they are flushable (make sure to read flushing instructions) They some times leak on to the plastic lining, but rarely on to the cloth cover. I use these when we're at home., when I have access to a sink for rinsing... I still use disposable when I'm out and about. I know I know, I should give them up completely.. HOpe this helps!

LOVE them. They are pricey, though. We only use them when we are travelling and don't want to haul dirty cloth diapers around with us. They now offer cloth refills instead of the disposable refills, which made me laugh. That would be a cloth diaper!! Anyway, I started CDing my first when she was about 4 months old. We're CDing our third now. It is great! It's so much easier than people think - I do one extra load of laundry every other day, and that's about it for extra work. I would recommend trying the GDiapers, and maybe investing in a couple cloth diapers just to try it out. If you don't like it, you can always resell them. CDs have excellent resale value on eBay and Craig's List, and you can get back pretty close to what you paid.

Best of luck,
S. L
