My daughter is having a pool party for her Birthday in August and we are trying to come up with an idea as a party favor - she just went to a pool party and the favor was a frisbee and beach towel. Does anyone have any cool, different ideas for a 10 year old party? Thanks in advance - A.

What can I do next?

I would suggest the "after-pool-care-kit". A great smelling shampoo, lotion...bath-beauty stuff. Or something i liketo get and give...the mesh draw string laundry style bags. These are great to go home with b/c the water can drip out and it doesn't stink or mildew. You can give these when they get there and have cute name luggage style name tags on each bag so that everyone can keep up with their stuff. Include colored zinc and small size sunblock and a plain pair fo flip flops. Have a table set up with ribbons etc.. For the girls to tie on and make their own flip flops. Have fun!

I would buy inexpensive flip flops for each guest and let them decorate them. Cute, fun activity and great party favor. Then I'd have a summer tote bag (mesh) in bright colors with sunblock, sunglasses, water bottle, frisbee, koosh ball etc..Look at oriental trading co. they have great ideas that are very affordable:-}

I'm going to do this for my daughter next year (she'll be 10) but what they did was make flip flops. They had stations where you could choose all different kinds of things to decorate flip flops and then took them home as their gift. You could couple that with a small bag of nail polishes (was thinking the ones that are 88 cents a piece) with a toe spacer and presto. Course you could go with the polish and accessories and skip the flip flops all together.

Blessings!

I have a 10 year old daughter and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of decorating flip-flops!! I would think that would be all you need. At this age, most kids are outgrowing a lot of the little goodie-bag items and a make and take like that is more memorable anyway! Have fun!

Hi A., that other party sounded cool, could be a bit expensive for the towels,. How about something also to play with in the pool , and works as a floatation toy also? Those long rubbery sticks called noodles, I think. LOL
My grand daughter taught me some fun things with them in the pool. She told me to try to sit on it like a swing, with the ends up out of water, sounds simple enough, BUT they tend to float and did not want to stay under. I fell off so many times, then she had me to straddle it like a horse, I said don't think so, she did and pushed the front of her end under water and the back end was above water toward me then she blew air through the tube and it looked sort of like a whale or dolphin's blow hole spraying water in my face. We had more fun with those silly things and that summer we got them at a big Lot for about $1.00 or less. Don't know about now. With the sun and UVA and UVB rays being of importance now, to protect our children, you could get each kid a t-shirt from Hobbie Lobby to keep them from burning, they could even decorate or sign each others t-shirt with Pool Party or the date, or just ??. Hope this might help, What ever you decide will be fun for the kids, have fun and stay safe.

We just had our girls b-day parties three weeks ago. I did both at different times but same day (12 year old and 7 year old) I did the Lauh theme. I went to party city and bought the margi/martini plastic glasses and decorated each glass with the girls name on it. I wrapped a lay around it at the bottom. I also loved the flip-flop idea, but couldnt find 20 flops in the right sizes. For my 7 year olds I got the little purses that were shaped like a dress and all the girls decorated and took home their glass, lay and purse. But there are so many things, if you are doing the luah theme, you can find the jewerly pretty cheap. I think the glasses were $7.99 for about 24? and the lays were $1.00 so it didnt end up costing me that much. So if you bought some summer/Luah jewelry to go with that.It wouldnt be too much and they would love it! Good luck!! Have a great party!

Noodle floaties are $1.00 at Dollar Tree. We did a pool party - I used beach pails for the favor "bag" and put different things in them - floaties, goggles etc. It was at the end of summer, and I got everything on clearance.

Towels are great - and you can get them for under $5.00. Disney store at Grapevine Mills had cute beach bags for about $3.79 (on sale for $5.99 plus an additional %40 off - they also had sunglasses for $1.99 and Flip Flops for $2.99)

Old Navy just had a flip flop sale yesterday - $1.00!!!!

How about Visors - you could use fabric paint to decorate them???

Also check Michaels and Hobby Lobby for flip flops. We did this one year (last summer I got flip flops at Michaels for .16 cents a pair at the end of summer!! We used strips of cute fabric tie around the plastic straps and push together!! You can use ribbon, or get some E6000 glue and glue on gems etc.

Good luck, sounds like lots of good ideas here.

Sunglasses maybe. If they are into Hannah Montana, Wal-Mart had some cute ones. Add a simple pair of flip-flops (solids are about $2.50).

Hope it helps!

Maybe a raft or squirt guns? Sunglasses? Something they can use in the pool while they are there and take home.

My granddaughter just had a Little mermaid/splash party in May and her mother was able to find metal buckets with lids and handles for .50 cents at Garden Ridge. During the party, all the kids gathered around a picnic table with several big bowls of different colored Sharpie markers and sea life stickers and the kids were able to decorate their own bucket. Each bucket had a picture of the birthday girl in her swimsuit with the caption, "Hope you had a blast, thank you for coming". They also used the bucket to hold their candy from the mermaid pinata and the buried treasure. Since it was outside, she also had sliced watermelon for the kids, since they were already in their bathing suits, they enjoyed the "messy treat".

The buried treasure consisted of a large tub of sand. She "buried" small beach toys in the sand and the kids used small shovels to look for buried treasure. They were able to keep 5 items they found.

I agree that you really have to check out Oriental Trading Company!!

They always have a TON of beachy or Luau items. Along with the usual favors and projects, I recently discovered that they carry a huge selection of beads and supplies! There are some cute charms and beads that would work GREAT with your theme - glass bead sets like beach items like swim trunks and flips; another set that has pineapples and palm trees; various fish, dolphins, starfish or undersea creatures - lots of choices!

They're online at orientaltrading.com; click the craft supplies and hobbies tab at the top, and there will be a "beading" link under it. I'm trying to put a link in here, but for some reason it's not copying properly - but they're very easy to find!

You could get a roll or two of stretchy beading cord, lots of inexpensive plain beads in watery blues & greens or bright happy summery colors and then a few specialty beads per kid. Necklaces, bracelets, or a clip-on key chain/zipper pull might be a fun activity - with a built-in favor to take home!

Also, definitely try your nearest Dollar Tree soon; they still have pool Noodles - for a DOLLAR! That's a pretty high-impact favor for a great price! Can't beat that.

Good luck - hope your party is great fun!

We've done many pool themed parties. Noodles and a bag of candy always goes over great. Dollar Tree has some great stuff too. We've filled our goody bags squirt guns, squish balls, cute, inexpensive flip flops, etc. We've filled the pool with beach balls and each guest picked two to take home. If you have time, Oriental Trading also has some fun "beach" or "summer" related items like key chains, koosh balls, beach bags etc. We've done cute plastic water bottles from Wal-mart where we've use paint pens to decorate and write each guests name on.

Have fun!
