Good Baby Monitor

With my daughter starting to sleep through the night, we've decided to start putting her in her own room. With that, we need to buy a monitor. I don't want to spend 100's of $ on one, but I do want a decent one. Selena's room is above then across from ours...meaning ours is downstairs, and her's is upstairs on the opposite side of the hall. Any suggestions on an affordable decent monitor? I saw one that only turn on when there is sound in the baby's room. Does anyone have that one? Is it good?

What can I do next?

We have the Portable video monitor by Summer Infant and we love it. My daughter is almost 2 and I have another one due in a few weeks I'm thinking about purchasing another one. It's less than $200 but it is soooo worth it. You can bring it with you wherever you go in the house and the best thing is that you can see the baby besides hearing her. It saves us from having to get out of bed in the middle of the night to go in and check on her when I can just turn on the video monitor and watch her. I love it....I would never get anything else. Good Luck!

We use the Baby Call Nursery Monitor - 27 Channel
by Sony Electronics. It has 27 channels which is great if you
live in a neighborhood who have a lot of baby monitors.

We love ours and is about $50 and we purchased it at Babies r us.

I have a very simple model from Graco and I've had it for 8 yrs, since my first born. It even rattles from being dropped so many times, and still works. I don't know which model would be comparable now, but it has a base unit in the baby's room, and 1 hand held unit for anywhere else. You can plug it in, or put a battery in it and hook it on your belt. The hand held part also has lights, so you "see" the sound if say you are watching a loud movie, or listening to loud music and might not hear the monitor. It also has 2 channels incase a neighbor has the same one. We've encountered this before. I don't remember how far the range is, but our house is 2400 sq ft, and it works anywhere in the house with baby's room upstairs. It was a shower gift from a coworker, so I know it didn't cost much. A high price doesn't always mean high quality.

I have the fisher price monitor and I love it. If I forget to turn the volum up on the monitor, the red lights on the thing let me know how loud my baby is crying or playing which ever. Go to Babiesrus.com or amazon.com. You are able to look at reviews there on the different monitors of what people think about them. good luck

I was given a Sony as a hand-me-down and it works great. It has the feature that only sounds when the baby makes noise. It works great and I can go out and do some yard work or get the mail and it still works. We liked it so well we bought a second one when my son was born. The best part is when they are both napping I can switch the frequency on the monitor to check on both kids. I want to say they were in the $30 to $60 range depending on which you purchase. I believe we have one of each and they both have great range. One uses AA batteries and one charges a battery inside. They both last a long time on the charge or the battery. They are well worth the cost of peace of mind. I hope this helps and congratulations on your baby sleeping through the night. My 8 1/2mo wakes up at least once still.
Good luck,
Cris
