I am just wondering if any one has used Nasonex for they kids? My 17 mo old was prescribed Nasonex today for his runny nose. I'm concerned about using steroids in someone so small, was wondering if you have anything good or bad to say about it! He's also taking Amoxicillin for a mild nasal infection....

What can I do next?

I am putting in a blurb for natural childcare. So many medications and vaccinations that we use these days. Don't you think that God made our bodies to work as they are supposed to? I think that there are things you can do to help without medicating for life. I don't want to start a controversial conversation, but would be glad to message with you.

My son was 10mo and had chronic allergies/runny nose. We used Nasonex and it really helped. I would recommend it. It's alot easier than trying to get him to take liquid medicine!

My daughter is on Flonase (which is the same). She has not had as bad of allergies as she had before and she only has to take the claratin or benadryl every now and then.

I have an 8 year old that has been on it for over a year now. It helps him tremendously. I was like you though, I was pretty skeptical about putting kids on steroids, but I will tell you it works. We were going in with ear infections everytime the seasons changed. They told me it was allergies and put him on zyrtec, which I had trouble getting the insurance to cover it. They then went ahead and tried claritin and it worked for about 6 months and then it quit working. When I went back in the doctor she told me that she uses it everyday and was going to prescribe it for him. Since then we haven't been back to the doctor. There have been no side effects or anything, and he doesn't even mind squirting in his nostrils. I know your situation is a little different because you have a 17 month old and mine is 8, but it does work!

They wouldn't prescribe him something that was not safe. If he was going to have to take it everyday for a year or more I would be concerned. My son was on breathing treatments for a couple months because he had RSV and he is prefectly healthy now. It is just to strengthen the vessels around his nasal cavity so they can fight the infection better. It is only temporary and the concentration is so mild that there will be in long term effects.
