Having Trouble Getting Pregnant Second Time...

...we have a son who is two and would like another...problem is, we don't seem to be able to get pregnant! My husband is 36 and I am 28. It doesn't appear to be an issue on my end. Is it possible for a man to go "sterile" within only two years? Could it be him? He hasn't been exercising much lately, but he is a pretty slender guy and in decent shape. He eats ok, but as a general rule is stressed all the time about something...but that is HIM and it didn't seem to be a problem before? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help!

**Just to add a few things based on responses so far: we have not been using protection since shortly after we had our first...two years! He does drink quite a bit...not an all out drunk, but from a family that likes to drink. I would say he has a few beers every evening and then two-ish nights out a week where I am sure it is much more...before I approach this from a medical standpoint, I want to know what I am talking about to him: he won't be talked into the dr. easily. This is why I am trying to find out if a guy can go "sterile" in only a few years? This might be something I could tell him to go get check out...

What can I do next?

I am a mom of 2, a 10 year old and a 5 year old. The age difference was not planned. I had my first when I was 20. When she was 22 mos. We decided to start trying for another. After a year of trying everything(useing all different techniques that are suppose to tell you when you're ovulating and such)we both got tested. There was nothing really wrong with either of us. I didn't ovulate as frequent as most women but nothing to hinder concieving. So after about 2 years we went on fertility pills. Another 9 mos. went by with nothing. During this time I watched both of my sister-in-laws have babies. I was devastated. Eventually, I gave up! I figured at least I was blessed with one baby. I enrolled back into a junior college and we bought a 2 car. I found out I was 7 weeks pregnant only 4 weeks later. My advice is TRY not to stress yourself. Make sure everything medically is fine, if it is then it will happen if it's ment to be! It happened once - it can happen again! I know your heart aches when you see a baby but just remember what you already have. Also, secondary fertility is actually a very common problem. It happens to more of us than we know. Good luck and I hope the best for you and your family.

I used the clear blue easy fertility monitor. IT IS VERY PRICEY!!!!! But, it totally works. I found out that I don't ovulate on the 14th day or there abouts like most. I ovulate on day 9. My husband and I were trying at all the wrong times of the month. (That's okay it was practice.) So, our first go around we started to see a specialist and had found out that there was nothing wrong with either of us. We used the monitor and got pregnant. Now the second go round was just recent. I started the monitor in August and we just confirmed that we are pregnant. I think we just got lucky this time but knowing when you are ovulating helps. Good Luck.

My partner and I have been trying for a baby for over two years now, We were going to a fertility clinic for about 5 months before somebody told us to contact this spell caster who is so powerful, We contacted him at this email; ____@____.com , for him to help us, then we told him our problem, he told us that she we either conceive in January 2013 or February 2013,but after two years of trying we were at a point where we were willing to try anything. And I'm glad we came to Dr zogo, Because he predictions put us at ease, and I honestly believe him, and his gods really helped us as well, I am thankful for all he has done.

When ovulation begins, try sex every other day. You didn't say how often you try, but this is something my OBGYN told us to do and it didn't take long to get pregnant after that.

I was married twice and had two sons with my first husband. Then was unable to have children with my second husband. Not sure what happened and my second husband could never be prompted to go to the doctor, so after I went and a doctor told me I was still capable of having another one (which worried me as I had one child after a tube and ovary were removed) so I never quotes blamed him, but urged him to go to the doctor. He never did and fourteen years have passed without a child between us. He was a fantastic step-father, but if there is a way to urge your husband to get tested please do so. I still cry because I wanted more children.Because if you really want another child it might still be possible. And of course anything can happen in life so don't really worry too much about it. I do hear stories about wearing boxers instead of briefs and not to drink too much and all that jazz although then I'll see guys who look like huge drunks fathering about thirty children so go figure. Oh well, I'm off on another tangent. I have heard of people having children sixteen years later out of the clear blue sky. So who knows. Good luck! Enjoy your son!

You could go get acupuncture. Chinese medicine specializes in this, and is a relatively cheap first step to checking your health. The Pacific College of Oriental medicine is on Broadway and near Grace in Chicago, and has a supervised student clinic that I've been to for other things.

You don't say how long you've been trying. And why do you think it's a problem on his end? We've all heard that it can take up to a year to get pregnant, but I know we all want it when we want it. Try doing the ovulation test sticks for a month or two just to make sure you're ovulating when you think you usually do. Pregnancy screws w/our hormones and you might be ovulating earlier or later than you think.

The first steps I was told to use after running into a similar problem was to use a fertility test found at your local drug store. It doesnt say if you have tried that or not. I also stopped drinking coffe & started drinking decaf green tea--lots of women gave me advice on taking mucinex from day 8 to day 14 of my cycle to help & others told me to do the basal temp charting...I personally think I was thinking about it too much. My husband and I are quite a bit older than you & your husband, so after two & 1/2 years I went to a reprouctive endocrinologist (specialize in fertility issues) upon the tests for my husband & I nothing was out of order--but what I did find out was even if you were slightly deficient in a particular hormone it could unbalance your fertility potential. I ended up going thru some fertility procedures & I am currently pregnant with my second child, but I have to say if I had all the time in the world, it would have happened naturally, but because of our ages I went the fertility route. They say if you have been trying for a year with a fertiliy predictor kit it should happen---if after a year you may want to consult a fertility specialist--I went to Rush University Medicl Center-Dr Radwanska & Dr Wood-Molo's practice...I liked them a lot--my cousin used Highland Park...Fertility Centers of Illinois after many unsuccesful procedures elsewhere---so I know those two have great reputations--an assessment of you & your husband couldn't hurt. I also am an avid accupuncture for fertily recipient. I became pregnant with first child within 5 months---I became pregnant again with accupuncture only a second time, but miscarried at 7 weeks. The child I am pregnant with now is a result of a fertility procedure. I am currently 42 & my husband is 47--I had my first child at 39. I hope this helps, feel free to contact me with any questions.

Hi M......To answer you question about men going "sterile". With my 1st marriage we where married for 3 years and never used protection. Well my husband at the time drank a couple beers a day, which I found out could make him become sterile. well we did divorce. And he remarry. His new wife made him stop drinking and after a year of not drinking they did have a baby. My point behind this is that men can become sterile because of reasons like this, but without a reason I dont think they just dont become sterile just because of stress and such...Good Luck

If it's not already been said, do yourself a favor and buy Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It is jam-packed with tons of great fertility (and health) stuff!

Have you talked with your doctor? There are simple blood tests that can be run to let you know if your hormones are where they should be (for releasing an egg, sustaining a pregnancy, etc...). Your hormones can change, so please talk with her!

Are you using the fertility ovulation kits? Remember that the kits are not 100% accurate, that the surge line says that you are probably going to ovulate withing 24+ hours, and that the egg usually only lasts 12 to 24 hours after ovulation, so you've got to cover a 24 to 48 hour period...

Also, have you been charting? Pick up a basil thermometer (at Target, any pharmacy, etc...), and a copy of the book I mentioned earlier. The charting is a great thing to have to show your doctor if you have been having problems conceiving.

Good luck,
M.

We had trouble with #2 and #3 after no problems with #1, I know how you feel. In the case of #2 it was keeping a pregnancy, #3 it was getting pregnant-and my periods were regular the entire time.

I highly recommend the book "Taking Charge Of Your Fertility". It is very helpful, teaches you to track your ovulation and listen to your body to see if you can find out anything.

I also used a Clearblue easy fertility monitor. It works well if you remember to check it each morning, I am not sure about the ovulation kits at the stores that are cheaper.

Your next step is your OB/GYN. Unfortunately most of them will not do much for infertility (secondary or otherwise) until you have been trying for a year. It's worth a call now just to see what your OB/GYN says.

I ended up with a reproductive endocrinologist each time (RE) and on medications each time. For my second child I took 3 anti-miscarriage drugs and was able to sustain her pregnancy. For my current pregnancy I took fertility drugs (letrozole) and ended up with twins (5% chance)-so unless you want them (we are thrilled), be careful.

I hope this is helpful and wish you the best!!

how long have you been trying? Even at 28 it takes an AVERAGE of 9 months or cycles to get pg. I would look inot you and his diets and the yeast issues and no gluten or wheat etc and if youa re concerned you should be seeing an RE (reporductive endocrynologist) not your regular ob.
good luck
