I disagree with the previous response. We went with the inspector reccomended by our realtor and he was great! HIs name is Dave Ward. H gave us a 3 ring binder with all of the notes he took and pictures of everything wrong with the house. I would recoomend him to anyone.
As for moving companies I don't know sorry!

E.,

We moved last year and were not too happy with the inspector we used (advice: never use someone referred by your realtor). However, I would recommend the company that inspected our old house for the person who purchased it from us. Surprisingly, the inspector was very honest with us about how our buyer tried to get him to falsify several big things on the inspection report just to be able to get more money out of us. For instance, he said the inspector should say that we needed a new furnace as well as unnecessary electrical work. We really appreciated his candor as he had nothing to gain from telling us. After all, we weren't paying his inspection fee.

I can't remember his name, but I did come across the name of the home inspection company's name in the legal correspondence we received from our buyer's attorney. The name of the company is NCS Inspections, and the number I was able to locate online is ###-###-####.

Now remember, we have no personal experience with this guy as an inspector working for us. He was hired by our buyer and the only reason I'd recommend the guy is that he came across as a decent guy who wasn't willing to stoop to say the things our buyer wanted him to. I can say that all the things he put in his report had validity once we had plumbers and electricians come in to look at (and fix) the items listed. Good luck!

hi E.,

It's been a few years since we used them, but we were very happy with the home inspection done by an inspector from Brick Kickers www.brickkicker.com - lots of good info on their site too. Don't recall the name of our particular inspector, but all should be similarly qualified.

My experience has been that a realtor should not recommend a particular inspector, but rather provide you with a list and allow you to choose who you want. It is especially important if you are not buying a brand new home.

Our inspector spent a lot of time inspecting the home we were buying, went on the roof, in basement, attic etc. Some of the very detailed notes he put together were just helpful things for us to know (like be ready to replace window casements within 3 years, rake mulch away from foundation to prevent bugs etc.). Other things we asked the seller to fix before closing - like electrical wiring issues.

sorry no recommendations on movers, I'm sure someone else will know of some.

good luck!

I don't know about a home inspector, however, if you are moving locally..you could try Two Men and A Truck. I think they are based in North aurora. My mom used them last june to move from sugar grove to geneva and they were great. they were on time, they wrapped each piece of furniture and they worked quickly(they charge by the hour). they placed the furniture where she wanted it, and unwrapped it. she is pretty picky, so if she was happy, I think they must be pretty good.
