I like the name. It is an older name, like something from my great grandmothers generation. Her name was Maude and her daughter was Zeona. So, there are some awful names too! Just think about kids in her class being able to say it. Leona should not be hard to say and I think people will like it. More importantly, do you like it? Can you stand saying all day long? It is very pretty and while not common, it would not be misspelled or mispronounced, and she would not have to be Leona K in her class, like when I was growing up, we had 3 Davids

I like it. I think its great when parents use something different than whats on the top 10 names list every year. How boring to pick a name from the list!

I like it! I am probably partial as there is a history of Leon's and Lee's in my family (grandfather, my mom, my uncle, etc). My cousin's name is middle name is Leona and mine is Lee. My next (and last) kid's middle name will either be Lee or Leona. Essentially, there are no boys left to pass down the last name, so the girls get "Lee." Sounds a bit weird, but I'm still proud of it, lol!!

It is not my most favorite name in the world but.....when I first saw it the first thing that came to my mind was the singer Leona Lewis. Leona Lewis is a very talented, beautiful young woman.

Think about your newborn as a newborn with a specific name, toddler, teen, adult, old person....use the same name imagining all those ages and see what you think. It could work.

There are plenty of names (I will not display here) that sound downright silly for an adult. Really, could you see yourself taking someone named Leona seriously as an adult? There are so many names I've seen that parents think are so cute but as an adult I could never take that person seriously. Just me....

Just evaluate it and go with what you love.

I like Leona; I think it's a beautiful name. Try not to be sensitive about how others pronounce it, though. I named my daughter Brienna (bree-eh-na). 1 person in about 1,000 get the pronunciation right (everyone wants to call her brianna or some variation, but always with a distinct 'a' sound), and that drives me crazy. I still love the name thought, and do not regret my choice; it fits her perfectly. I can't imagine her name being anything else.

I tend to think of it as an elderly woman's name (my Grandma's name is Leona). But, I love the old fashioned names like that, so if you love it then I would go ahead and name her Leona!

Leona means lion, my strength, brave as a lioness. Name your daughter what you want. She will make whatever name you give her her own.

I am a fan of naming a baby whatever you like - but since you asked - the first thing I thought of was Leona Helmsley - "the queen of mean".

I don't like it, but it's your choice of course. I think your daughter will be asking you why you named her that(not in a good way). I agree with the others-it sounds like an old person.

I like it but in my opinion a baby name all depends on how it goes with the middle and last name and how easy it is too pronounce and as long as it is not too different, I like Leona, it is pretty and different yet simple and if it goes with the middle and last name I think it is a good name.
If you like it then name your child that if people don't like it oh well, I don't think it is so different that a negative opinion is based on this name being bad just their personal preference

I personally LOVE it! One person said that you wouldn't have a nickname (I am personally not a big fan of nicknames) but you could always use Lainy (or I guess you would spell something like Leiny). I think either is beautiful :)

Good Luck and CONGRATS!!!

When I think of Leona, I think of Leona Helmsley so it wouldn't be one that I would pick. That being said. This is your baby and if you like the name and are convinced that you will continue to like calling your daughter that her whole life I would go with it. I still regret going with other peoples opinions and naming my last one Emmaley instead of Emerson like I wanted. Oh well, it's too late now. Go with what you like. Congrats!

I think it's pretty. It is unique enough that there won't be a lot of other children named Leona, but not so unusual that people think that it is weird.

I don't particularly like it, but I can't think of any nicknames for Leona and I do like that part of it. You never know if you will be "saddling" your daughter with an awful name, she may love it. Everyone always told me V. was a beautiful name and I hated it. I wanted to be Kelly. Now that I'm older, I don't like the name Kelly and I like V.. Do what you want, it's your daughter, and if people don't like it, it is their problem not yours.

I don't care for it but it's your decision. Who cares what anyone else thinks. I didn't name my daughter until I saw her because I wanted to see what she looked like. I wanted the name to fit her. That worked for me because she does look like a Nicole.
Earlier today I ran into a girl named Echo. I have never heard of that before for a child. She said kids made fun of her all of the time. Now that she is an adult the name is okay. Her parents got it from a soap opera. I had a dog named Echo when I was young. I didn't tell her that though.
I would decide on if you think kids would make fun or not.
