Hi. I'm starting my search for a nanny and am wondering how much to offer per hour. The nanny would care for my infant son three days a week and also take care of my three year old once his preschool day ends. Please let me know your thoughts.

What can I do next?

We pay 16/hour for a 1 and 3 year old. She also does light housekeeping, laundry and voluntarily walks our dog and loves to garden with the 3 year old while the one year old naps. She truly is "me" when I'm not home - I don't have to worry about a thing. My kids also go with her to classes, the library, etc.

We pay ours 13/hr for two kids. The rate will stay the same when she only has my younger son in the am and my older son is in preschool.

Nannies normally do not work for an hourly rate, babysitters do. If you truly want a nanny you need to create a job description and should consider no less than $100 a day. I had a nanny agency for over 15 years and helped parents to determine what they needs are and how they would be best met. A babysitter is someone who can provide a safe environment for your children and can interact minimally. A nanny is someone who is knowledgeable in child development, can plan activities appropriate to the age of the child as well as providing a safe environment. I am still doing consulting work and can help you find a nanny if that is what you are looking for. My website is: executivenannysearch.net.

We currently pay our nanny $11.50 for one infant son. She also does light housekeeping for us.

Hi M. - I have two nannies that split the week. I pay them each in cash at $70/day. My hours are 8:30am-5pm/6pm. I do give them a 1 week bonus payment at Christmas. Good luck! There are great nannies out there that are available for less than going through a nanny service.
