How Do I Deal with a 6 Month Old at a Braves Game?

I have a six month old girl and we have tickets to take my 12 and 14 year old boys to a Braves game on Sunday. We also have to go the Apple Store to exchange my computer. How do I deal with naps while we're at the game? Will they let me bring a stroller? I'm not quite sure how to juggle the baby. Any advice?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow, who knew how divisive taking a baby to a Braves game could be? I've asked my mother to keep the baby. She's a very good baby and would probably do OK but my boys would have more fun if our attention wasn't constantly fixed on the baby. Thanks for everyone's advice!

My advice is to leave the baby at home! She will be miserable in the hot sun and then so will you. If there is anyway to avoid it, I'd not put her, my family or myself through a probable not so pleasant time.

Have you ever tried to use a sling? They work wonders and baby can feed and nap whenever they feel the need.

why not leave her with someone so that the boys can really enjoy the game, as well as YOU enjoying the game. there's not much you can do since she's not interested in the game, huh? Do the little lady a favor and not take her to the game. The entire family just might appreciate that!

GET A BABY SITTER! Your 6 month old will not enjoy the game, and your enjoyment will be less. That is a long time to expect your child to just sit there. I am very against parents who take babies to sporting events. Too Loud. Can be too inappropriate. If your child acts up you could also lessen others enjoyment. When I grew up, even though I wanted to go to football games with my Mom, she never took me until I was capable of sitting and understanding the game. Leave the baby at home!

I don't think you can bring a stroller- we went to the braves game when my 2nd was 6mo. old and he basically fell alseep in my arms the whole time. I did have to nurse him during the game and went to the bathroom to do it. Our seats were covered, but you might want to bring sunscreen if it is a day game and you will be in the hot sun. Have Fun!

i see you have lots of replies!! But IF they let you bring a stoller in, I don't know where you'd put it during the game besides under your feet. We took my 14 month old & 4 year old a few weeks ago to a game & left 5th inning. But it's definatly possible. Plus your baby is 6months so MAYBE he/she will fall asleep during the game.

Hi,

We go to the Braves games all the time. No, they wont let you bring a stroller you will have to leave it parked outside. SO I wouldnt even bring it in. YOu will be surprised though how good babies do at games. Because it is so loud and they just like to look at all the people. If you have to you can take her up to the concession stands and walk around until she calms down. Also, my daughter would take naps anywhere as long as we rocked her and held her close. Dont stress though, have fun. It will be great.

You still remember on how to make kids? Now on the serious side I see no reason you can not take your stroller but have you consider leaving the baby at home with a baby sitter?

The best thing I could suggest wouldd be to not take the baby. That's much too much stress and noise for a baby that age, and you will not get to see much of the game while tending a tiny one's frightened cries. Sorry.

I think, if possible, I would try to find a sitter. You will enjoy the time with your older children more with the baby at home. I have an older step daughter, so for things like, taking her to the Louvre exhibits at the High, or to a movie, etc. we would get sitters for our little ones. That way, the time with the older child is not compromised.

As your friends who they use, or ask a friend to watch the baby if you are not comfortable with a teenage sitter.

If at all possible, get a baby sitter for the 6 month old. I don't know where you would put a stroller as the stadium is not set up that way. If it's a sunny day you will also be dealing with the baby getting too much sun. I don't think you would enjoy the game while juggling a baby.

I can't remember what it is called but you should go get one of those wrap around baby carriers so that you won't have to hold her all the time. She can just be comfortable and safe inside the holder. Maybe some other moms will know what it is called. Seen them at Target. It's like a large fabric bag that hangs around your neck.

As long as you realize you probably wont actually get to watch the game you should be fine. We took our baby when she was about that old and it was really special for her Daddy. We took turns with her in the snugli and she fell asleep during the game. It was much better than I could have hoped. Make sure someone always has a free hand to catch the foul balls :o) Just give up the schedules for a day and have fun!

if you have a carrier of any kind (sling, baby bjorn, etc) use it! we took our son, who was 5 at the time, and daughter, who was 4-5 months. i did have to nurse her and just did it in our seats, but that's the kind of "feeder" i was. she didn't seem bothered by the noises or the heat and still took little naps while we were there. we went to a night game so we didn't have to worry about the sun but take sunscreen if your there for a day game. it should be fun and as long as your relaxed about it i'm sure the baby will be fine, too!

Will you have another adult with you at the game. If so maybe you will be able to take the baby out for breaks. I don't know how well you would be able to manuver a stroller through the crowd and the stands. Maybe he or she can nap in your lap. I would make sure to take plenty of snacks and toys to keep her from getting bored. Good Luck. Also I want to work from home. What type of work do you do from home?

Hi M.,

My husband and I tried it with my first daughter and it didn't go well for us. Someone had given us tickets because we had been so consumed with the baby and decided we would go. She was a really even tempered little one but the noise was too much for her. Not just the dull roar but the sudden outbursts from the crowd when something wonderful happened on the field. We ended up leaving after the 4th inning. From the other responses, I'm betting you won't know until you try!
:)

M.

Get a sling or other type of baby carrier! My baby girl has been going to ball games since she was 11/12 weeks old. And the sling is the best way to go. She slept right there on my chest and I had my hands free. She loves to people watch too, so she really enjoyed the trips out to the ball games.

All of the responses have been great, but you will never know unless you try it out. I have always taken my kids with me everywhere we go including all sports. I use slings with my kids and they are so comfortable they will fall asleep right on me. If you are nursing then that makes it only easier because you can just nurse right in your seat. If you are using artificial milk then you will just need to make sure you have your bag with a cooler full of that. I would never suggest leaving your baby at home. Best of luck to you and I would not bring a stroller.

We took our 7mo old last year to a red sox game. I carried her in the baby bjorn (sp) baby carrier. She was great during the game, My husband and I would take turns holding her and the other fans around were making her laugh as well. I would not recomend bringing a stroller as there is no place to put it and you will be climbing a lot of stairs and you do not want to deal with a stroller. I did bring the diaper bag full of stuff. Have a great time!

We went to a Braves game a couple of year ago and took our 2 grandsons. I used a stroller, but don't know if I got it there or if my daughter took her stroller. I cannot remember. We had seats in one of the covered sections. I don't know if the location of the seats mattered or not, but I do know that we had a stroller because I pushed him in the stroller inside the building where our seats were located while everyone else watched the game. It would be worth calling the stadium to see what the policy is, or you could probably find it online. Enjoy the game.

If you don't have a sling, consider getting a kid backpack carrier. I used to use one with my youngest and it was great.

You can actually set the backpack up on the ground and have it hold you daughter still for a holding break if she falls asleep.

Don't bring a stroller even if they allow one there. It severely limits your mobility in a ball park. And/or you have to leave it sitting in a stroller parking area if they even have one.

Have a great game and don't forget sunscreen for everyone!

Hi M.. I took my daughter to the game when she was a year old and it went fine. She took a few naps in the mist of confusion (the game & the crowd). I didn't bring a stroller but I believe I saw a few. Overall it will be a great experience for your 6 month old and don't worry just go out and enjoy the game!!!! I'll be attending Friday so hope to see ya there! :)

My advice would be if possible get a babysitter for your 6 month old. It will make for a more pleasent day plus make your boys feel they have some "special" time with mom and dad.

I always loved to hold my babies with the baby carrier. They have snuggli's and other brand names. Some of my friends loved their slings. But that was always how we could hold the baby arm free and they would fall asleep there too.
Just a thought.

The outcome of the experience depends on your daughter. If sheis usually very fussy or unmanageable when you all are out then maybe you can find a sitter. And if not you could also use a front baby carrier to hold her in.Sometimes babies can tolerate alot more than you think they can so she may do just fine. But I say base it on how she acts on other outings.

This season, we took our easygoing son to a Braves game when he was a few months old. It was not good....way, way too noisy and stimulating for a baby. He was not happy and I didn't watch the game, but spent the entire time walking around with him in the baby bjorn, trying to get away from noise and crowds (not easy.)

You get a babysitter ( a responsible one) and enjoy your outing! You will have a miserable time, otherwise. After about 4 innings, you will be ready to go. Think about the others around you that have paid money to enjoy a game. Babies need to stay in baby friendly places. I had 4 children. I'm not just saying this to be cute. The bathrooms and changing them will be another nightmare! Plan atound this one or send hubby on his way with a guy friend. You and he both will have a better day.

are you in savannah? I ask because my suggestion to you in a good carrier- either a Mei-tai or a Wrap. In this case I would use a wrap. (I can teach you to use both and a wrap you can make super easy and rather cheap!)
Snuggle that baby up and nap times wont be a problem. Or if you are sitting there are a few ties you could do to keep them on you but still allow you to be hands free which willk make the game more enjoyable. Also I would pick up some silicone earplugs from walmart- thats what I have done at concerts and such =-)
