Over the last few years, things that I used to like? I can't eat anymore...

I used to love green beans....now I can't stand them.
I couldn't handle rye bread...now I can. And enjoy a slice every now and then...

My girlfriend and I were talking the other night at dinner - she never used to eat avocados.....now she does. This includes guacamole and can't believe I didn't push her sooner to try it...

So how have your taste buds changed?

What can I do next?

I think my tastes have changed...not just my taste buds. I find that things I used to like, I don't so much. Things I didn't like, I do. Shows I used to think were hilarious are now a waste of time. Men, in real life as well as actors on tv, who I never would have given a second look I seem to find very actractive.

I used to not like tacos. When I was pregnant with #2, I couldn't get enough of them. I still love them now! In the last year I have started liking tomatoes in salads.

I heard someplace that your taste buds change every 7 years. Don't know if that's true or not, but yeah... I'd day that my taste buds have changed over the years.

I also wonder if it has something to do with hormones. When I was pregnant with my kids there were things that I absolutely could not eat. And it took awhile after they were born for me to be willing to try them again.

Growing up I couldn't stand avocados, sour cream, brussel sprouts, or spinach. Now I'm good with all of those (but only fresh spinach, I still can't stand cooked spinach).
I had a gastric sleeve done in July & since then I can't eat most tomato based pizza sauces but i can eat tomatoes. I also used to love pickles & now don't care for them as much.
I tell my kiddos all the time, "your taste buds change all the time! "
Fun question :-)

If it is true that your taste buds die off, thank goodness!! I can finally eat things now! I was so picky as a child but now I can actually eat a varied diet. Textures still get me, but not as bad. I still don't like raw tomatoes and I'm hesitant to try new sauces/dressings/dips their texture gives no cue as to what it is going to taste like so I don't like the surprise.

I had an extremely limited list of things I would eat as a young child. In fact, I remember going through a phase where I only ate fritos and cheese slices. My lucky mom had to put up with all this. I never ate salad until I was in college. I have only started eating raw tomatoes in tacos a few years ago and I'm 46! It has taken me over 4 decades, but I do eat a much more wide variety than I used to. This is not to say I am adventurous, though, because I'm really not. I still am limited in what I eat compared to all the normal people out there. One thing, though, is that I think I would die, for real, if I ever had to eat turkey lunch meat. To me, that is the worst of all because I ate some that was room temperature once and I thought it was so disgusting!

Mine definitely have.

I could NEVER eat cottage cheese. Even the thought made me gag. Now? Mmmmmmmm!

I also used to prefer sweet snacks, now I prefer salty.

And, unfortunately, I can no longer tolerate many of my favorite sweets from when I was a kid.

I've noticed that some things I used to eat with reckless abandon don't agree with me anymore.
Can't think of anything that my tastebuds have changed for.
Good question

I still don't sit down and eat a container of yogurt, but now I routinely put it in smoothies. Until 5 years ago, it tasted like poison. Still won't eat sour cream though.

I still won't eat steamed or creamed spinach (or any cooked leafy green) but I love it raw in a salad and will put chopped leaves on a pizza or flat bread.

I used to just tolerate mayonnaise but now appreciate it's subtle sweetness and use it as a sauce base in addition to a sandwich spread.

Still don't eat shellfish, but I now actually like white fish and tolerate salmon.

I LOVE brussels sprouts (especially sauteed with bacon...yum!)

I used to avoid beans like poison but now like a mix of them (chickpeas, kidney beans, lima beans etc.) in a salad.

I still don't eat mushrooms (taste like dirt), bleu cheese, ranch dressing, and olives of any sort.

Kind of. I think the only thing I really didn't like before and like now are avacodos. I LOVE them now...but before, nope. My kids eat literally everything though, way more than I do - they eat all of the seafood choices Jeff gets and they love it all...weirdos :).

I didn't like green peppers as a kid. Now I love them.

I seem to be getting MORE sensitive to spicy foods. I just can't eat things that others consider mild.

I keep hoping that my taste buds decide to like raw tomatoes, but they just won't cooperate. Every once in a while I try one (different kinds, too), but I just can't like them!

I just like bitter tastes more and more, the older I get. I love anything coffee flavored. I crave greens. I could not stand broccoli as a kid, but now I love it. I love spinach and cabbage now, too. OOh and brussels sprouts!

I like "strong" tastes a lot more now. Like really strong cheese. Maybe that is just what happens when you constantly are battling weight gain since you can get a lot of flavor from a small amount of something pungent :)

I'll be honest, there really is not any food that I will turn down or that I have grown out of. Although, I have not had sugared cereal in 10 years, I would bet. It sounds too sugary for me.

I've become less picky over the years. There used to be a whole host of foods I wouldn't touch or would actively pick out of a dish. Now, there really isn't anything that I couldn't tolerate for at least one meal. It's a big relief.

Mine have changed by becoming less sensitive so that I no longer taste many flavors or taste them in a mild way. Very disappointing.

I can't stomach the thought of eating those things which as a child I couldn't have enough of. These include ice cream, fast food, anything fried. Doesn't agree with me anymore.

I didn't start eating sweet potatoes until about ten years ago. The first few times I tried them I didn't care for them at all, but the taste grew on me and now I love them.

I used to love chocolate, but when I was pregnant I suddenly couldn't stand even the smell of it. I can tolerate small quantities of chocolate now, and I even crave it once a month, but I still don't like anything that is really chocolaty.

I like tomatoes now, hated them as a kid.

Most of my changes have been forced. I'm trying to eat better. Still don't like wheat bread but learning to tolerate it. I can eat most wheat pasta now.

The last two times I made brown rice, I didn't want to spit it out. That's an improvement. It usually tastes like I cut up the couch cushion.

I have changed to soft corn tortillas, instead of flour.

My whole palate changed when I moved to Texas. I eat much more Mexican now.

When I was little, Spaghetti was a forgeign food. ;)

I think mine have changed which is why I am very patient with my son and his more finicky eating.

I understand that a cultured palate takes time. Just like your friend, I hated avocados when I was young... loved them in my 20s and 30s.

My parents forced me to eat certain foods-- and despite how good those foods look, I have a gag reflex to deal with when I eat them even now. Making it halfway through a spinach salad, for example, is a huge victory for me, because I was forced to eat salad. Other foods I didn't care for as a kid- asparagus, onions, etc. I actually really enjoy. Because of dietary constraints as an older adult, some things I love I really can't eat, but I am glad that I had several years to enjoy those foods that we didn't eat regularly as a kid. Can't eat my childhood favorite, Kim Chi, any more, but also didn't grow up with sushi and love it. Many of the foods I ate as a youngster I don't care for now, just because they are either too sweet (cereals), too salty (ramen noodles, loved them) or just not nutritious. My mom came from the 'open a can and boil it to death' school of cooking; I tend more toward stir-fries or sauces and soups with lots of veggies.

Oh definitely, my taste buds have changed and foods that are available to me have also changed. Growing up in S Korea and Germany didn't have access to some of the things now. DD did a unit study on taste buds and yes they decay and die off etc. Pretty interesting reading :http://kidshealth.org/kid/talk/qa/taste_buds.html
