I just recently started taking the shot instead of the pill for birth control and was reading that it can take a year and a half to get pregnant after getting off of the shot. Has anyone tried to get pregnant after getting off of the shot and how long did it take for you to concieve?

What can I do next?

did you tell your GYN that you wanted to have more kids? I'm surprised s/he put you on the shot knowing you want more kids. I would choose other BC...

I was on the shot and although I didn't have a lot of the side effects most everyone else did, I completely lost my sex drive.

I did the DEPO shot for about 1 1/2 years. I will never do it again. Once I took my last shot..it took me well over another year to get my period back. I was even at the dr's doing test to make sure there was nothing wrong. The dr. finally put me on pills for a month to try to regulate my body and it worked. Good luck.

If you're wanting more children I wouldn't do the shot either. What about the patch or mirena? I'm scheduled to have the mirena put in in about 4 weeks (since I just had a baby) and I'm hearing it's very easy to get pregnant after having it removed. When I did depo, I bled the entire 3 mnths and it was really annoying. Some days light, some heavy but literally every day. The weird thing is, I have 3 sisters and the 2 that did the shot as well also bled the whole time. Not sure why, but we just did and none of us did the shot again after the 3 months was up.
Good luck to you and PM if you have any questions. : )
