How Much Would You Pay a Tutor?

Depends on your area, and cost of living. How far is she going to drive each way? Is she coming to you, or are you driving your son to her? Meeting at a library (be careful with that....libraries usually do not allow people to charge others while using their building). Is your son easy to work with? Easy to distract?

I tutored privately in MN. I charged $40 an hour. I have my degree in education, taught in the classroom for several years, and ran a franchised tutoring business for 2 years. I drove to the student's homes, and tutored for an hour for each session. I also emailed, and met with the students' teachers.

I think $30 for the hour's worth of work is on par, but I don't know your area.

Also, ask her what she charges. If less than $30 a week, offer more than what she is charging, and you will be sure to have a consistent, and happy tutor on your hands. If she leaves it up to you, put it back in her court. She needs to learn to advocate for herself. You'd be teaching her the lesson. :)

$50+ per hour for any academic tutor who is degreed or a degreed teacher.

You would not be able to find a qualified tutor for less than that here and get the quality of tutoring you need.

My sons tutor charges $13 per hour and she is still in college, his previous tutor charged $20 an hour. How old is your child? 1/2 an hour an isnt really that long, they dont seem to have much time to really get into much, my 2 cents. :)

Be prepared to be charged by the session, not the total amount of time a week. Most sessions are for an hour. A good tutor prepares materials, so the rate they charge would represent the prep time and the tutoring time.

Perhaps you might think of it in the range of what you pay other professionals?

And congratulations for getting your son a tutor. So much can be accomplished with a good tutor over the summer. I hope it works out well for him.

I don't think that's enough. How old is your son? How difficult is the subject matter? You're paying $15 for 1/2 hour, but that doesn't include travel time. If it takes her 15 minutes to get to your house, she's giving up 1 hour of her time for $15. Also, maybe do the same amount of time (1 hour), but just have her come 1x/week to save on travel time and gas.

I payed $40/hour to a stay at home that was a former high school math teacher to tutor my daughter in algebra. Best money I ever spent!

I think you should ask her how much she charges. She has her masters degree so I am assuming she is a professional.

You are right on the money, so to speak. I am an experienced teacher, and I charge $30.00/hr.
