How to Get Pooh Out of Pack N Play

Hi Mamas,

Recently I napped a one year old in a pack n' play. When she woke up she quietly undressed herself from the waste down, pooped, and then smeared it everywhere. When I went in to check on her it looked like a poop massacre! She was so proud of herself for accomplishment. Well, I got the poop off the child but now I have to tackle the pack n' play. Does anyone know how to do this? So far I have wiped it down twice with clorox wipes, sprayed it with lysol, and then sprayed it with fabreeze. I've asked others and they say it doesn't smell but I can still smell a hint of pooh. Is there anything I can do to get the smell out?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay, I am trying the vinegar and sun idea first since I have both on hand. I'll keep you posted...

Update: It is as good as new! I am so glad I didn't throw it away. Clorox wipes, lysol, vinegar and sun. I left it outside for three days. There is no odor at all. Thank you all soooooooooooooooo much!

I'd say try white vinegar to get the smell out. Spray it on and let it sit for a few minutes then wipe it off.

Nature's Miracle from Petsmart is safe and effective. And I have to thank you for a good chuckle this AM: "a hint of pooh"? Too funny!

When all else fails or you are just to tired to fight it anymore, dump it and find one at a garage sale! You can probably find one for 10 bucks. Tell people about your plight, and that you are in need of one, and a freind may even locate one for you.

Just throw it away! You'll never be rid of that smell.

Try OdoBan - it is sold at Sam's Club. I use it in my baby's diaper pail (we use cloth diapers) and it works wonderfully to eliminate poo smells. It's great for laundry odors too, so I am sure it works on fabrics.

Hi E.! Hopefully by now your problem is solved!
I have to disagree with those saying throw it out. that is being very wasteful.
With some liquid laundry soap, a good sponge, time, patience and the sun, you should be good!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi E. - It sounds like you've done a pretty thorough cleaning. How about trying this: Spray it down with vinegar and let it dry outside in the sun. If you try it, let me know how it works.

Take it outside and wash it down with a sprayer on your hose or a preasure washer. Use laundry soap to scrube then rinse well. Let it dry in the sunshine and it should smell just fine.

Do you have somewhere that you can hose it off and leave it in the sun to dry. Like clothes hung on the closeline smell so good, the sun is wonderful for deodorizing.

Hi E. -

There are enzyme liquids and sprays that break down organic matter - you can most easily find this stuff in a pet store for removing cat or dog messes -
I find this the most effective for cleaning up after my 4 kids, 1 dog, 2 cats, 1 bunny, 1 hamster, and 14 birds......

I think a new "used" on would be the best idea.
However, if you are determined to keep it - perhaps reluctant to walk away from a challenge....
I would suggest if you have a kiddie pool - you could soak the sucker in it with some Lysol and give it a vigorous scrub down with a brush - rinse the heck out of it with the hose then let it dry in the sun. It's so hot & dry it should dry in 1 afternoon.
I think a good soak helps anything-even if it's psychological.
