Tomorrow is my mom's birthday and I'd like to make or give her something special to let her know how much she means to me.
My mom is ill and I'm not sure how many years I will have with her.

What can I do next?

Deanna,
I am a 72 year old mother of five, grandmother of 11 and great grandmother of 14. From experience I can tell you the best gifts I have received over all the years has been a hand written note from my loved ones telling me what I have meant to them. Other gifts I have forgotten, those I still hold dear from the early scribblings of five or six to my oldest son who is now 52. Simple gifts would be nice but add that special note. Hope this helps. Maybe you could put together a little booklet of coupons good for various things: getting an ice cream cone with you and the kids; going out for coffee on a Saturday morning with just you; etc; put in a few real coupons from a favorite store, restaurant, video rental, etc; and intersperse with pages of your favorite memories of your childhood ( or write things like, thanks for always taking me to the library; thanks for all the times you listened to me...). You could even throw in a few pictures of you as a child on those pages, if you have time. Maybe include a few pics of your kids, etc....kind of a miniature memory book and coupon book all together.

Another thought is to fill a jar with funny jokes, postive sayings, favorite quotes, Bible verses, etc, for her to take out one day at a time.

Happy birthday to your mom!

How about a digital picture frame with picture of the two of you (and with her grandkids) over the years along with that letter.

I received a an outdated magazine of some 20 or so years back and I thought I had gotten diamonds. I looked back with nostalgia thinking of the stories written and what things cost and the advertising and ect. I would tell that to one of her older friends and ask if they knew where you could get one. Mine came from a flea market Memorial Day sale.

Give her a heartfelt letter. Use lots of specific details. She will love it.

How about a poem? Something that says how much she means to you. Think about all the fun and some sad times you two have had together and if you have pictures that would work. Spend or have a special dinner at her favorite place and give her the "Poem book".

You can never have enough memories of your mom. Be grateful that you have had your mom in your life as long as you have as SHE is a very special person who knows your emotions and actions the best. As you two have "grown" from infant to child to teenager to woman to friend there have to be special times. Just spend more time with her and take lots of pictures for your personal scrapbook. Let her know your love by just being with her and doing little silly things together. Sorry to ramble on. Have a good day with your mom.
