I Need Help from Those Who Scrapbook or Journal!

I used to work for Archivers and the staff there are educated on everything that has to do with acid-free, lignen-free, etc. As far as pens go . . . I always loved using the slick writer pens. These are the best pens for writing on photo paper as well. The fine tip writer does seem to run out fast (probably b/c of the tip) however, if you aren't writing a ton of recipes all in one day - you should be fine. The medium point works great - almost like a sharpie pen AND it dries instantly (even on photo paper). So, that is the pen I'd highly recommend using. They have several colors but, you can also ask the staff at Archivers (several are located in the TC) what they would recommend too. You'll find everything and anything you possibly need there. I use Creative Memories pens for my scrapbooks--I've always trusted that they won't sell something unless it stands up to time and aging!

Target and Walmart also have good deals on scrapbook stuff. If the pen says acid/lignin free you are good to go. If the pen DOES NOT say acid and lignin free ere on the side of caution and find ones that do. Joann's, Michaels and Archivers will be an overwhelming wealth of choices. If you stay within the scrapbooking section of any craft store you are good to go. And like someone else noted you should take a look at the blank cookbook you have, it should be marked acid/lignin free as well. If you are running into Archivers bring it with you and have a clerk take a look at it, they should be able to help you make sure you have the right paper/book for your project.

What a great idea!! You want to use 'acid free' products. Target actually has a scrapbook section now with the variety pack of colors. Michaels and Joann's usually have 40% off coupons, and those places have so many markers to choose from. My favorite have two different size tips. Also Michaels and Joann's- the coupons are interchangeable and you can use one of each at one visit! Have fun!

you also need to make sure the pen is acid and ligin free.

Just be sure to use acid-free paper, so it won't yellow. And go to "Archiver's" or "Michael's" and get a pen that will not fade over time. Ask the salespeople about it. They will know. There are pens that are just for scrapbooking and stuff. Great idea! Good luck.

I made a cookbook when my daughter got married as a shower gift. I got her fiances favorite recipes from his mom and took all my daughters favorite recipes and did them according to category. Then had it printed on cardstock and laminated and spiral bound. She uses it all the time. I know the scrapbook is a very nice idea, wonder how usable it is.

i would check a nearby scrapbooking store. i dont know what kind of pen to use, but im sure someone in a scrapbooking store, or even a craft store, would.

Archivers is another great resource for what to use.

Make sure the paper you're writing on is acid free. You can go to Michael's or JoAnn's and pick up a pen that will be safe to use. You can even ask the sales people what pens to use. I think that's so sweet of you to make the cookbooks.

You got great advice from the others. I just wanted to tell you what a great gift idea that is! I am always calling my mom and asking for different recipes of hers. They will love it!

I have been scrapbooking for many years and have used a variety of pens from various companies. I use the Stampin' Write Journalers from Stampin' UP! - these are fade-resistant, waterproof, that have 2 tips on one pen - 6 mm and 2.3 mm. My mom left me her cookbook that she started when she was a young bride in 1952 and used a regular ink pen. The recipes are still very readable other then a few smears of dirty fingers. I cherish these recipes because she is no longer with us. So I wouldn't worry about the type of ink other then I wouldn't use a "colored" pen but stick with your basic black or blue.

Use a pen with acid free ink. The ink won't run or fade, and if you use pictures and glue them in use acid free glue.
