Hi there. My name is C. and I just moved here from Billings, MT because of my husband's new job. We are the proud parents of a 4 month old son, and althought we moved closer to family (Spokane, WA and Seattle, WA) we are far enough away that we don't know anyone here. He at least gets to talk to grown-ups at work all day, and although I am THRILLED that its working out for me to stay at home right now with my son, I need a little grown-up time myself. I miss my friends and would love to meet some new ones out there to hang out with and maybe get the kids together for playdates. I'm 26 years old and am open to any recommendations for mom's groups, play groups or just any gals out there like me who want a buddy. Has anyone seen that show Surviving Motherhood on TLC? I guess I would love to find something like that where a bunch of moms could take the little ones to a kid-friendly coffee shop and gab. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Hi C.,

Welcome! I'm a stay at home mom too. I'm 30 and I live in Beaverton also. My boy D.J. is 18 months (he was a bit premature so he's more like 12 months) My hubby owns his own business and is gone from sun-up to way beyond sundown. So when I'm not taking D.J. to physical therapy or helping my hubby at his work I'm a bit at a loss as to what to do with my spare time (cleaning house is getting old :P )I'm basically where you are, missing friends. My best friend is out of state and I don't really have any girlfriends to speak of. I would love some grown-up time and allow D.J. to interact with other kids at the same time. I love spending time with my hubby but he's so busy...............

Hi C., nice to meet you!! I too am a stay at home mom, though my kids are a bit older than yours. I just moved to Wilsonville and have also been looking for a group of moms as you described. I am not aware of an active playgroup, but I would be willing to help find one if you need it. Let me know.

Hi C.!

Welcome to Portland! Though I'm no longer personally in a playgroup or mom's group like you're looking for, I know of a great resource (I went through them when my son was your little one's age). They're Portland Metro Moms, they meet in SW Portland every other week as a large group and they find playgroups for you, based on the age of your baby. They have a website. I don't remember what it is, but if you google it you'll find it. They were great! And they ALWAYS have something going on.

In addition, I work for a sustainable diaper company based here in Portland (gDiapers). We'll be having an open house "mommy and me" tea on April 4th. We hope it will be the first of many play dates/social hours (and don't worry, we're not trying to sell you gDiapers! just having some tea/coffee and letting the kiddos play). Our headquarters is in an amazing home in NW Portland. If you'd like to come just send me an RSVP to: ____@____.com

Happy Spring!

HI C.,

Welcome to town! There are various organized mom's groups in the area, some with additional playgroups you can contact. It's hard to start a playgroup if you don't know anyone. Look online at MOMS Club (I think .org). There is a group in Aloha that meets once a month at a church, then has playgroups and various fun activities throuout the month. If you are interested in a Christian based group, check out the local churches in the area. MOPS (Mothers of preschoolers) meets at Beaverton Christian Church on Allen Blvd (you can look up MOPS international online, and there is a great moms club at Sunset Presbyterian Church I was involved with for several years that has playgroups as well. My kids are 8 and 5 now and in school so playroups are more difficult, but when they were younger it was great for them to socialize and I gained some great friendships. We still get together on school breaks.
Good luck! B.

I'm 24, I have a 5 month old son named Sean and also live in the Beaverton area. I don't really know many other women either. I have seen Surviving motherhood and think it would be fun.

Hi C.,
I am the same boat as you, we just moved here from Salt Lake City, actually like a year and half ago. We have a few friends but they are all single or do not have children so it is hard to get together often. We are looking to meet similar couples too!
Our daughter is one month old and a few days, so a little young yet but we would still love to get together with other couples, or I would love to get together with other moms as I am a stay at home mom too. My boyfriend, however, wants to join a group too so we can make other parent friends! Have you had luck finding a group yet? Would love to hear about it, or get together sometime for coffee or dinner....
Thank you, and we love the name Jackson, if we had had a boy that would have been his name!

Hi C., and other Beaverton MOMS! I know your request was made a while ago, and I hope you have found the support you were seeking. I was in your same position almost 6 years ago. I found the North Beaverton MOMS Club, and became very active in the club. Oregon now feels like home, even though all of our family is in the mid-west. I don't know what I would do without my friends I met here through the MOMS Club. Please contact me at ____@____.com email was temporarily not working, but is up and running again. I hope to hear from any moms out there who are looking for a great support group and fun activities for their kids in the North Beaverton Area! There is a south club as well, and you can find their website though a quick google search.
