I would like to know which hospital is considered the best to deliver at considering there are no complications with this pregnancy. I don't care about the cost.

What can I do next?

I delivered both of my babies at St. Joseph Mercy in Ypsi/Ann Arbor. I have had excellent experiences. The new Labor & Delivery rooms are amazing...but the Mother-Baby units are still under construction...so the until that wing is complete, the rooms are pretty small for post delivery. Most of my friends have delivered there as well. I would recommend. Good luck!

I delivered my first and will be delivering my second in 6 weeks at Royal Oak Beaumont. All of their rooms are private for the maternity ward. I was really happy with the hospital.

Hard to say. I've only delivered at U/M. Had a loss at Providence. But I was content with U/M. they cover any angle at all, in any given situation.

Everyone boasts there's is best because that's the last place they went. I didn't feel like having more just to put it to the test.

What area do you live? I'm not sure anyone can answer this question as a matter of fact. We have a lot of good hospitals here. The most common of the people I know is that they deliver at St. Joes hospital in Ann Arbor...some people thing that the U of M hospital is the best but they do have students (in training) on staff and don't have private rooms so some people don't like that but they do have really good doctors.
I have a three month old and I used Troy Beaumont and had a really great experience. I used a midwife though so that could have contributed. It wasn't very close to my home though so that didn't make it the most convenient for me, I think the next round I would do research on Providence in Novi or maybe the new Henry Ford hospital in West Bloomfield because I have heard good things about those, my preference would be to have a midwife over an OB. I'm not really sure this response has helped you but we do have a lot of good hospitals here in my opinion. The most important thing is to be comfortable with your doctor/midwife so I would probably find someone that offers the experience you are looking for and then use whatever hospital they go through. I have heard of some people having negative experiences at St. Joes, St. Mary's, and Providence in Southfield so I personally avoided those locations but like I said the doctor/midwife is a huge factor. Another thing, the closest hospital to me is Huron Valley Sinai which is a great hospital also but they didn't have a NICU so that could factor into your decision also...sorry if this answer was not helpful...

I delivered both of my children at Beaumont Royal Oak. Because I am an attorney who defends obstetricians when they get sued, I know more about obstetrical practices than the average delivering mom and I have absolutely no complaints about my care and treatment there - it was great and the nurses were supportive and informed. The mom baby unit is well-staffed and new - everyone automatically gets a private room there at no extra charge as well. I assume you will be delivered by your own obstetrician - I would actually be more concerned about your doctor choice than the hospital itself - your doctor will be directing your care there and everything will be done on his/her orders - so hopefully you have found a good OB you trust and relate to well...

I delivered my son at Huron Vally, and it was wonderful.
I would have gone there agian w/ my twin girls but I switched Drs and she didn't deliver there. I had my girls at St Marys in Livonia, and again it was a great experience. I would go to either of these hospitals in a heartbeat. GL, picking one! And congrates!

I had my first baby at Royal Oak Beaumont and it was a very positive experience. I had my second one at Huron Valley Sinai in Commerce and the experience was 10,000 times better! My OB said delivering at HVSH is like delivering at the Ritz! She was so right. You get top notch care in beautiful suites. Food is ordered like room service. I had a c-section and was able to be prepped and recover in my own private room and was never separated from my baby (I was separated from my baby at Beaumont for four hours). The DMC (which is the system that HVSH is affiliated with ) is the only hospital system to go completely electronic with records, virtually eliminating human error. You can't go wrong with either of the two hospitals, but if I had another baby, I would definately choose Huron Valley over Beaumont.

Beaumont Royal Oak is a wonderful hospital. You get a private room with a fold out bed for your spouse and the staff is great. Also if god forbid you have any issues or complications with your delivery they are equiped with everything you and your child would need. I deliverd there with my first and plan to go back with my second due in December.

I had my first in 2001 at Beaumont Royal Oak. It was while construction was underway on the new maternity ward. I thought the care I received during delivery was top-notch. It went downhill from there. After delivery, I had to beg to get food. I had not eaten since early morning and it was after midnight when I got to the room. The nurse gave me two options and then complained that the one I picked required her to go downstairs to get it and I didn't want to ask her to do that, did I? Yes, I did. I am hypoglycemic. My room was about the farthest from the nursery where they kept taking my son to sit under a lamp. While in the Nursery, the nurses fed him a bottle of sugar water. He was supposed to be breastfeeding only and they never gave me the option of feeding it to him. I found out after when I read it on his chart. It turned out that right after they gave him that bottle, he lost all interest in latching on. And, the nurse who was the "expert" on breastfeeding had cold hands and smelled of cigarettes. She also kept putting breastfeeding down as some fad that keeps coming into and out of fashion.

I delivered my second in 2004 at Providence Southfield. I received the same top-notch care in delivery. I was much happier with everything that happened after. We were followed into my room by a nurse carrying a tray of food and ordering me to eat it now. If I could have, I would have gotten up and hugged her and told her so. It was a whole meal that I didn't have to ask for. The nurses were very supportive of our quest to breastfeed. They didn't so much as show her a bottle.

I would also agree with another post about how well you work with your doctor. Know their standard procedures about breaking your water, using the fetal monitors (the kind they put in babies head) and how comfortable they are with you walking around or using an exercise ball. Providence Southfield has an alternative birthing center, but you'll never see if your doctor doesn't deliver there. And, you can write any birth plan in the world that will be immediately discarded if the doctor says otherwise. They only that went according to "plan" when my first was born was my husband cutting the cord.

Congratulations! Enjoy the time with your baby! They grow so fast! D.

Dear R.,

Welcome to MI! I delivered my baby at Troy Beaumont. I also have a relative and a friend that work there (not in the baby unit). I had a wonderful experience there...and plan to deliver my next child there when I'm fortunate enough to get PG again...it really depends on how far you are willing to drive...Best of luck to you!

I'm not sure where you live, but I'm a childbirth educator at Beaumont hospitals, so we think we do a pretty good job delivering babies! S.

You have the brand new one in Novi. St John's Providence.
Grand River & Beck. We have lots of great hospitals here in MI. There also is a new Henry Ford of West Bloomfield.

Good Luck with your delivery.

Good question. I had a hard time making the decision and I guess it depends on how far you are willing to drive and if you already have a specific doctor in mind (doctors only have privileges at certain hospitals). I selected Beaumont Royal Oak because they have a neo natal intensive care unit there. While my pregnancy was totally normal, it was reassuring to know that if there was something wrong with the baby, we wouldn't have to be moved to another hospital -they could get started helping the baby right away. That was the deciding factor for me. Plus, then I found an OB practice 2-minutes from my workplace that had privileges at Beaumont Royal Oak.

If you're interested in midwives, however, Beaumont Royal Oak doesn't allow them. But Beaumont Troy does have a group of midwives that have hospital privileges. Also, my experience with Beaumont is that they want to hook you up to the fetal monitoring and an IV immediately. You can get a cordless fetal monitor so that you can still walk around and they will also give you an exercise ball to use. However, they do not have bathtubs or jacuzzis in the labor room - just showers.

Lastly, husbands aren't allowed to pull the baby out. My husband really wanted to do that and I guess they used to allow it but not anymore. I believe that's a hospital policy, but am not entirely sure. Also hospital policy, no pictures or videotaping of labor. You can take pics once the baby is born, but not during the process.

Hope that helps!

I don't know about the best hospital but stay away from Oakwood (that's where I delivered). I've known several people who delivered at Royal Oak Beaumont and they were really good and their rooms have all been updated and are private rooms. While advice from other people is good you still need to find a doctor you trust and tour the hospitals yourself to find one that you're comfortably with. Welcome to MI!

I delivered our daughter naturally at Providence Hospital in Southfield with my doctor, Dr. Sharon Miller in February 2012. Dr. Miller has been my doctor for over 10 years, and she and the hospital made my natural birth bery smooth and comfortable. The nurses were wonderful also, and our daughter and I had our own private room for labor and delivery, and also recovery. I was given lots of assistance when needed and the staff respected my wishes for feeding and keeping our daughter with me at all timed unless for medical checks, and then brought her right back. Our family was pleased with the spacious rooms and security, and the wonderful food. I highly recommend Dr. Sharon Miller whose office is in Farmington Hills, MI and both Southfield and Novi hospitals where Dr. Miller has patient privilages for your birthing experience.

I delivered at Providence hospital in Southfield and loved the experience, it was exactly what I wanted. They have a regular labor and delivery unit and a natural birthing center, they are next to each other incase of any complications in the natural center, they can just wheel you straight into the regular unit.
So I would argue that Providence Southfield is the best because of the choice you are offered.
Wherever you choose I hope your birth experience is the one you want. Good luck ;)

I just had my daughter at Providence Park in Novi and they were awesome! They are a new facility and do not have alot of patients so you get alot more care and attention opposed to busier hospitals. The rooms are private and they are nice. I had my son at U of M and did not like it at all. They are to busy to tend to your needs. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.!
