My son is 6 months old and 20lb 8oz, 27 inches. He's a big boy with chunker legs! I was using Pampers Cruisers size 3 and they were literally cutting his theighs! I switched to Huggies Baby Shaped size 3. These are now leaking pee.. ugh! Huggies just aren;t snug around the leg openings. Any suggestions? Anyone ever try luvs? Or maybe I should try Pampers size 4?

What can I do next?

Go up a size...that helped us a great deal. My chunky monkey is moving into size 5 now that he is almost 1. I think he moved into the size 4 at about 5 months. Cruisers never worked for us and luvs and huggies don't have enough stretch for my big boy. We love love love pampers baby dry.

I have always used walmart's White Cloud for my 3 boys, they worked awesome for the first two and they are the same way for the little one. Plus they are way more cost effective. the Berkley and Jenson from Bj's Wholesale Club work well too.

up a size in pampers baby dry, worked for me, the only thing that kept leaks at bay. a size above once the pinching started solved the problem, while also eliminating up the back poops :)

Is he having a bottle before bed and/or VERY early morning?
Mine is. Maybe I should try to feed him more during the day to fill him up and (hopefully) reduce night time peeing????? I just don't know...

I would say try a few brands and see what works for you.. In my opinion i LOVE huggies...and HATE pampers they also dug into the thighs of both my children. Does the huggies you use have the elastic on the sides?? Those for me work the best..
U should even try some store brands sometimes they might surprise you!!
My son is 5 months and 20 pounds so i know how u feel having a big boy with big legs that look like tree trunks!! LOL Im now using size 3 Huggies but the other day i put a size 4 on him ( from my almost 3 year old daughter!!) and they fit great.
PS do u notice that it leaks on the same side usually?? that happened to my son alot and i just have to "position" his little wee wee to stay center lol.. try that see if it works

my son was pretty big as well...not when he was born but he gained weight mighty quick. i found huggies were too tight around the legs, luv's felt like trashbags...i stayed w/pampers cruisers until he was in training pants then i used huggies pullups casue ironically enough in training pants in that size the pampers feel and learns were too small. good luck to you. every baby is different!

I had the exact same problem with my three month old daughter. Luvs are the only ones that fit her correctly right now. However, they are not so great on absorbancy. They leak pee if she sleeps thru the night in them! Ugh! But so far they are the best I could find. I loved the Pampers when she was smaller but now the size 1 is way too small and the size 2 is way too big!! Finding good diapers is so hard! I would try the Luvs before the next size up in Pampers because they probably won't fit. When will someone make a diaper that fits AND doesn't leak??!! Good luck:)

Pampers baby Dry are the same cost as luvs, and they now have caterpillar flex, so they fit the same as cruisers. No matter what never let a diaper gst so tight that it cuts off circulation!! Why make him uncomfortable? He will hate diaper changes if it hurts him and make your life miserable. Worse yet he will learn to take off the painful diaper... you know what you will have to clean up after that. Make sure you never let things get too tight, check his shoes once a month, if they are too small you can injure his feet and prevent him from walking properly, possibly delay his walking.

I would go with the pampers size 4.

My 5 month old son is wearing pampers size 3 right now (he weighs 18lbs) and the pkg says up to 28 lbs..I just don't see it, he will be in size 4 way before he gains 10 more lbs.

BJs brand diapers don't leak and are virtually the same product except the tabs are slightly longer in the pampers brand.
I tied luvs and they leaked when he was a newborn.
Good luck

I think you need to get a bigger size. My son is 6 1/2 mos and is 19 1/2 lbs with very thick legs as well and I am just using up the last of our Huggies Baby Shaped diapers to get rid of them and put him in a size 5 at night and will keep the 5s when the size 4s run out. I have found with him and my daughter (who is 2 and can fit in a size 5 as well!!) that when the poop starts getting spewed up the back and out the top, it's time to go up a size. But I have found the Huggies Baby Shaped diapers to be excellent.

I love Pampers... I've tried Huggies a few times on my daughter and every time she wears them they leak, so we're sticking with Pampers. Sounds like you should probably try the Pampers stage/size 4 diapers. I've heard that Luvs are good and also the White Cloud (from Walmart I think), but I've never tried them. Good luck, hope you can find diapers that work!

My chunky monkey 4month old daughter (16.5lbs) wears regular Huggies size 3. She has most of her weight in her thighs as well. I had tried the "Baby Shaped" and they didn't fit her thighs all that well. Now we use the Huggies Natural fit. I also found that the weight ranges on the diapers are a little off. We moved to a size 3 when my daughter was 14 lbs, not 16 as it says on the package.

Good Luck!

Hi K.,

I have 4 kids, the youngest being 10 mos and 25lbs. So, as you can see, he is a chunker also! I've always used Pampers for all of my kids and found they are the best.(Luvs are probably the closest comparable ones) He has been in Pampers size 4's for about 3 mos now, and they are great. I would definitely recommend moving up to the 4's.

Hello K. i would suggest Luvs, before having my son i swore by Pampers becasue they worked wonders with my daughter, she never had a diaper rash, they never leaked i never had a problem, well when i had my son i swore by Pampers again until i realized the Pampers didnt' work on him like they did my daughter, i tried Huggies and he always leaked thru, i didnt want to try Luvs because i thought them being the less expensive brand that they wouldn't work, but i gave them a try and used them until he was out of diapers, i never had a problem with leakage or diaper rash and i came to realize girls and boys are different and what works for her even though your favorite may not work for him...Good Luck hope it works.

I honeslty haven't read any other responses yet, so maybe I'm repeating this, but don't go by what the weight RECOMMENDATION is because that's all it is, a recommendation. When my son's diapers started leaking at night, (3 nights in a row, not due to improper diapering) that was my signal that he's ready to move on to the next size. and if that's not the solution, you will have them on hand for when it is the solution. My preferences, unfortunatly are huggies or pampers cruisers.

Try different store brands until you find one that works. Parent's Choice at Walmart seems to be the best for my son as far as store brands. They are normally cheaper than the name brands. My son get changed every couple hours and I do not find that they leak. I have found the store brands to work over night also.

My daughter (2 y/o) was only able to use Huggies until she got to a size 5. Now she can wear the pampers baby fit also, but we have tried every brand until we found the right one that didn't leak for her. My son can wear the less expensive BJ's and Babies R Us brand. He's 6 months and 18 1/2 pounds. He can also used Luvs. If those don't work for you I would suggest you gather whatever coupon you can and try the Huggies supreme. They have lots of gathers and may help with your leaking problem. You may also want to go up one size. I have found that when the leaking starts again I have to bump up a size no matter what the pounds on the package indicate. Good Luck... I definitely know what you are going through.

No matter what brand you use you should try going up to size 4. The weight limits they put on them are just a guide line. You might also want to try the White Cloud diapers. You can only get them at Walmart though, and that can be a bit of a pain. They are excellent diapers though, and the price is definately a good one! Luvs have changed and they leak even though they say they don't. There is no elastic at the waist so it's hard to get a snug fit without feeling like it might be too tight on the baby. Pampers and Huggies seem to leak also. My baby can't get through the night without leaking in either of those brands. Good luck!

However if cloth is not for you I found that kirkland diapers (costco brand) worked really well. Also the cheapest by far. For whatever reason around that same age all the diapers besides cosco didnt work.

I had the exact same problems with my son. He is now 14 months old and 33 lbs and 35 inches. He has super chunky legs. Ever since he was a newborn, he has peed through ever diaper I tried on him. At 6 months old, my son was 23 pounds and 29 inches. I ended up using the Pampers Cruisers. They hold sooo much more. Luvs just don't do the trick. Huggies didn't do much more. If I were you, I would just try putting your baby in Pampers Cruisers Size 4. They work wonders. Also, if you find yourself changing wet sheets everyday, try getting a crib pad for underneath the sheet. And also, they sell sheet savers that the baby lays on that wraps arond the whole entire mattress. I hope this has been some help for you.

Ya know, I think it's not so much the elastic as it's the elastic pushing the folded plastic into the little leggies :( I used to actually cut out the elastic out of the leg and waistbands, and then at last I tried cloth diapers. And ya know, it's actually way easier then you think. Every other or third day, I wash ONE load of laundry after scraping poo chunks into a toilet. It's well worth the little effort involved! You get some comfortable waterproof diaper covers that have SOFT elastic on the legs, a comfy soft cotton diaper against your skin, imagine how comfy that is compared to having the plastic folds cramming into your legs on those darn disposables! Sure, they're easier, and I've used them in a pinch when I'm travelling. But they leave little marks on their soft skin and I always feel guilty. Seriously, you should try it, my first 3 kids I sat there cutting all the elastic off those disposables cause I felt sorry for their sore legs and tummies... then I just gave it a shot with the diapers and found them incredibly easy! WEll good luck, I know that wasn't exactly the answer to the question you had asked, but I wanted to butt in. Your baby's real comfort is most definitely worth the few minutes you spend every few days worrying about doing a single load of laundry, big deal! :)

I agree that Huggies are way too leaky!! We always use pampers now that they have hug-flex or Luvs. Personally I like the Luvs better, my daughter hardly ever leaks through them. But whichever you try I would suggest a bigger size because you will be able to make them tighter and hopefully it will fix your problem. Try Luvs.com and pampers.com for coupons, I get coupons in the mail all the time, sometimes up to $3 off. Good luck!

where as i loved Pampers on my daughters - i found huggies to work best on my son (and most of my friends have foudn this true with their children as well). He was almost 22 pounds at 6 months (he is currently 8 months) and i have been using the huggies supremes (which changed designs recently - but its still the deep red colored package). My son have HUGE chucken thighs and as have no leaks with these (and he can go all night without waking or leaking through his diaper). We were not able to do this is pampers or the regular baby-shaped huggies. Going up a size may not be a bad idea either - as we are just now getting ready to move up a size as well.

We also like white cloud diapers (found at wal-mart) but due to my son breaking out to other store brands i havent used them with him - but used them with both my daughters after the intinal newborn stage.

Hi there!

My son just turned a year old and he too has what we call "chunk-a-monka" thighs. I used the cruisers size 3 and they too were cutting into his legs. I tried a different brand and he was leaking all the time. So I just tried the next size up in the cruisers. Even though the weight on the package was way off for him, they fit him perfectly (and with no leaking) So I would just try the next size up.

Try the diapers from Wal-Mart, I used them for my boys and they were much better and a heck of a lot cheaper. I can't think of the name of them off hand, but they were wonderful. You will know them when you see them.
Hugs,
T.

I love luvs. I switched to luvs because like you said huggies leak. We had the same problem with pampers they would cut her legs and if I moved up a size they would leak. I found luvs worked the best. They didn't leak and they are also cheaper. My 7 1/2 month old is still in the size 2 because they fit so well and work great. They never leak overnight. Plus you can take the luvs challenge and if they leak they will refund you the money. This is my second child in luvs and I wouldn't use another brand.

Stick with Pampers, but just go a size up.

Hi K.! No worries, I have a 7 month old who is just under 22 pounds, so I know the feeling! I have him wearing either Pampers Cruisers or Pampers Flex size 4. I've never had any problems with them, but I too didn't like Huggies. I know it stinks to go up a size, but chubby babies are so cute!!

Hi K.,
I swear by wal-marts White Cloud, I used them for both my girls and I tried others like pampers and luvs and Huggies, bbut the white cloud was the best. I even used the Pull-ups from white cloud for pottytraining.
Goodluck.

I would go with the Pampers size 4. The weights that they give on the packages are only recommendations. I didn't really use recommendations with my boys. (ages 1 and 2 1/2) When one size diaper got too small I went to the next size reguardless of their weight.

Hi K.,
I HATE, HATE, HATE Pampers. I personally like Huggies. I know you said you tried them and they leaked, but what about Huggies overnights? They are made to withstand A LOT of pee? They go up to size 6.
Hope this helped.

Hi K.
My son is also 6 months old. He is 21 lbs 2oz and 28.5 inches long. I use the huggies size 3 (either baby shaped or the regular) and I haven't had a problem with them. Maybe you should try going up a size just to see if it works. Just buy a small package so its not too much of a waste of money. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi K.,
My son is out of diapers for 3 years now, but it sounds like the diapers still have the same problems. I had to change the brand of my son's diapers every time he grew. Pampers were great when he was a newborn, but were very small in the front where boys need the most protection. With Huggies, he leaked everywhere, especially when he started to get around a bit! Luvs worked the best for the longest time. They weren't too tight, they didn't leak (as far as I can remember),the front was high enough and he could get around great in them.
I hope that helps!
