My same son with a nickel allergy often gets red, irritated nipples after swimming. Sometimes they even bleed a little. This is with and without a swimshirt. Any advice on this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the helpful advice. I will try the Vaseline trick and will check into that honey and see how he does without a swim shirt for a wild. I will also look into the cleaning products of the swimming pool. The steps and rails may possibly have Nickel in the screws.

I just posted this under your other inquiry, but will post it here for moms who have rashes, exzema, burns or other owies to deal with:

A recently available product, manuka honey (Medi-Honey) is incredibly healing. A little cousin of mine had terrible, scaly and discolored rashes on arms, shins and neck. Just a few days of applying the honey (gel form – neater to use than the pure honey) has her almost completely healed. I've used this myself to help heal irritated wounds, and last night a burned tongue, with very impressive results.

This honey, under various brand names, is available now in many health food stores, and through some dermatologists. Look for a "UMF" rating of 10 or higher. Derma Sciences makes the excellent Medi-Honey brand. Here's a link that describes the uses and benefits: http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/manuka-honey-medicinal...

Research, if pool cleaners or chlorine or pool cleaner chambers, contain nickel.
There are many different types of pool cleaner systems and how a pool is cleaned and the chemicals used etc. Not all pools are cleaned the same way.

Take him to the Doctor.

Is this only when he is in a pool, or does it also happen in fresh water situations? He could have an allergy to the chemicals in the pool. I would talk to his doctor.

I wonder if putting something on them, like vaseline, before swimming would help. My son had a metal allergy and would get welts from the snaps on his pants, but he never had that problem.

This happens to O. of my sons friends. His nipples get swollen like enlarged and really inflamed. For him it's definitely a swim shirt. He does better without O. but it takes a few days to get back to normal after he wears O..
