I have been nursing my son for 10 1/2 months now and I really want to loose the 60 lbs I gained while pregnant. I've lost 15 since his birth but I'm tired of the way I'm looking. I have a lot in my tummy. Is there a good weight loss or exercise program? I would like to loose 20 to 30 by xmas. Yes I know while nursing you can't do anything drastic but I'm ready to have my body back. Thanks for your help.

What can I do next?

I wish I knew of one! I also neeed to lose about 60 pounds, with alot of it in my belly. My son is 8 months old and i'm nursing but I don't seem to be getting anywhere. Someone once told me that some people start losing the weight after they stop breastfeeding. Please tell me if you get any good tips! good luck!

Weight Watchers has a plan for nursing mothers. A realistic plan would alot for 1/2 pound to 1 pound per week. A lot of times you lose weight early on in breastfeeding then as time goes by the weight is harder to lose - you are right, many women don't lose it all until they stop nursing.

Try to focus on healthy lifestyle changes - exercise and eating right - and enjoy your nursing baby - it is so short lived!

I think that nursing is the best for weight loss! I have cut out sugar and most starches as well as soda. I drink about 2 gallons of water a day. I had a baby 9 weeks ago and have lost 46 lbs., and I only gained 26 lbs. while pregnant. If I was having trouble losing the weight - I would definatley do Weight Watchers - it is the most sensible.

Good luck!

Yikes! Don't take any weight loss pills or supplements while nursing! I can hardly believe anyone suggested it!
I did Pilates 5 times a week and it made all the difference in the world! My only other suggestions are to cut out sugar and eat foods low on the glycemic index.
Also, Heather is right. You can do Weight Watchers while nursing. I did and I lost 23 pounds. Just make sure you don't waste ANY points on crappy food! Good nutrition is key!
Good luck!

Hi J.,
I will be honest. I doubt you would lose 30 pounds by Christmas, but if you started immediately I have a plan where you would probably lose one to two pounds per week. Maybe a little more the first week. It's healthy. It's my feeling that you will compromise your milk and your health to try to rush into losing too much. I would advise you to do this in a healthy fashion. You are more likely to succeed in the end.

I am a Shaklee Independent Distributor and we have a weight loss program called The Cinch Plan. In regard to nursing the question has been asked. There are some products on the plan you may wish to avoid... and this is Shaklee's answer:

Q - Can I use the Cinch Inch Loss Plan if I am nursing?

A - You can follow the Cinch Inch Loss Plan while nursing your baby, with a few cautions from Shaklee Health Sciences. Make sure you're eating enough calories and drinking plenty of fluids so breast milk production isn't compromised. We recommend starting with the 1,800 calorie Cinch Plan.

We also recommend that you discuss the use of the Energy Tea with your doctor, as it contains naturally occurring caffeine in the amount found in a half cup of coffee or black tea.

Replace the Cinch 3-in-1 Boost supplement with Vita Lea with Iron, because the 3-in-1 Boost contains the herbal extract evodia, for which the safety of use in nursing women has not been studied. If at any time you notice a change in your breast milk production, you may want to check your calorie and fluid intake or consider discontinuing the program until you've finished nursing your baby.

Here is a link that will explain the plan in full. Please take a peek if you are interested, or contact me.
