Could this one be a UTI? even though i don't have any burning, just frequent urination, low back pain. About 2 weeks ago i went to the ER because i thought i had a UTI, well they took urine sample which they said had bacteria and gave me a 3 day treatment of Cipro, well i felt better but then this past friday i started having this sharp pain down my urethra and the pain would go way after i urinated and i started getting urgency to pee alot , and i had read that a lillte bit of baking soda on a glass of water would help with an UTI so all day Friday i drank lots of water with some baking soda and the pain went away but i got the low back pain again but no burning and no more pain and the frequent urination is like as soon as i pee my bladder starts getting full again,, i wonder what it could be, would i need more antibiotics, could it be a kidney stone, i also went to the ER 2 days later cause i was feeling weird and i never had blood pressure issues but they said my blood pressure was high so the Dr at the ER thinks is all stress related, i just don't know what to do, i have no insurance so i can't go to my regular Dr and i can't be running to to the ER either , i just don;t know what all this can be, i am under alot of stress and i get very anxious so please any advice or suggestions i would greatly appreciate, thanks Mrs B

So What Happened?

I just called the ER that i went to for my UTI and asked if i can get info on the urine test i had done and the nurse told me to go to the medical records dept and get a copy of the urine report, the only thing i was told about my urine test that day i was in the ER was that it had bacteria, so i'm planning to go tomorrow morning.

Sounds like you need a CatScan of your abdomen I am really surprised they didn't do this already That is pretty much protocol with those symptoms. It definitely sounds like a kidney stone issue. Good Luck

You need to go back to the ER and this time they need to do a KUB x-ray, an ultraound, or MRI to see what's going on. If you had a negative urine culture and also took the Cipro, it unlikely that you have a UTI at this point but more likely that you are passing a kidney stone or a stone is blocking the ureter or even the kidney itself. Kidney stones are bad enough to cause excrutiating pain, rising blood pressure, fever, vomiting, back pain, and frequent urination. Make them rule out a stone and then if that comes back clear, you may need to consult with a Urologist and see what else is going on. Have you ever been diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis? That can happen after a bout with a bladder or kidney infection and can also be the result of stones or sediment in the urine as well. I feel for you.....this is no fun and you need relief now. Don't mess around. Go back and DEMAND that they look again and if it's a stone, see if you can get Lithotripsy to break it up and pass it. Unless it's already in the bladder.....then it will all be over with soon. Best wishes and I hope you are back to 100% quickly!

I had the same thing minus the pain while urinating. I had blood in my urine and pain in my lower back. They told me I had a kidney infection. However, I was on Cipro for 7 days. Have you called a Minute Clinic or one of those clinics that are in the stores like CVS or Walgreens? They are a lot cheaper than the ER and there is usually not a wait. What about going somewhere like Solantic or Centra Care? They are cheaper than the ER also.

I used to get UTI a lot. It is usually caused from holding your urine to long is what the doctor told me. But he also said some people are just prone to getting it. My doctor told me when I start feeling like I am getting UTI to drink a beer and it will clear it up, It works. You only need to drink one a day until the infection is gone. The beer usually cleared mine up in a couple days. A lot cheaper than the doctor and medicine. He also advised me to drink Cranberry Juice every day to prevent it from coming back. Like four ounces a day is all you need. Another thing he told me was to stay away from caffeine. If you had kidney stones you would know it. You more than likely have UTI or kidney infection. Do the beer and Cranberry juice and if it is either one it will clear up. Also, douche with vinegar and water at least 3 times a day for a few days. It will help if it is an infection.

Do you have a public health clinic you could go to or rather than an ER, maybe an urgent care? I'd be careful not to let it persist hoping it will get better as it may in the mean time only get worse. Great to try cranberry juice although it never worked for me, even pure cranberry juice. My daughter drank it to help her with a UTI and it held it at bay, but came back. - I'm surprised by the 3 day treatment. Mine have always been for a week. Just don't wait too long to get checked if your symptoms persist. You may not feel you can afford to go to a doc, but you can't afford not to either. -- Hope it works its way out. Best -

I just found this out from my dad who read on article on curing UTI's-Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer. Just dissolve two tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly-even though the product was never advertised for this use. I have not tried it, so I am not sure if it works. However, I would say it does seem like it might be a kidney stone or something else. Maybe try the Alka-Seltzer, if it doesn't work, it seems like you are going to have to go back to the doctor.

Did the culture come back positive? If so, I would think they would have given you more antibiotics? I was wondering if maybe a kidney stone creating a UTI??

I had never had a UTI in my life until last year. It took three rounds of antibiotics to get it cleared up. And I'm STILL not really sure it totally went away.
The baking soda in water may have been what raised your blood pressure. It is extremely high in sodium, and can really cause a problem, in those prone to HBP.
Run a shallow, warm bath, and add apple cider vinegar, sit in there and soak. Also a warm compress--washcloth in hot water, wring it out real good, and pour vinegar over it. Hold it over the area for 10-15 minutes a couple times a day.
If you can make yourself drink it, a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in water a couple times a day is very helpful, and can help clear it up fairly quickly.
Many people find that cranberry juice is helpful....if you can't stand to drink it, you can buy it in tablet form at the drugstore, in the vitamin dept., or health food store.
Drink lots of water.
Eat yogurt every day--that's one of the things the doc told me to do.
