Just Killing Time.... Fashion Statements You Cant Stand.

What are some new fashion trends that you just will not participate in? Mine used to be leggings, but I finally cracked and started wearing them. Now its those ugly sandals that go all the way up your leg, they look like boots but have open toe. I hope I never decide to like them because right now they drive me nuts. (Sorry if anyone likes them) Whats yours?

What can I do next?

this isn't about ME or an ADULT - but about what parents let their children wear!! THOSE fashion trends.....

Little girls or even teenagers in mini skirts (I guess I should say MICRO mini!) as a former cheerleader - i get mini skirts - but NOT on an 8 year old...

Half T-shirts...for ANYONE! Yes, i owned a few from concerts but didn't wear them....

But overall - it's letting young girls/kids dress like adults....yuck!!!

I HATE to see a young man walking in a half-straddle, trying to keep stupid his pants from falling down, constantly adjusting to keep them to just halfway over his @ss crack with at least half of his underwear showing. Seriously, I don't know that I've ever hated, or ever will hate any fashion trend, and I use that phrase loosely, worse. And it's not even that I care so much about seeing his underwear, as I just can't stand watching someone walk with their legs spread wide apart, obviously struggling to keep his pants up! It's SO RIDICULOUS!!

And I hate gladiator sandals too, Rachel!

I can't stand those shorts w/a word written across the butt like "princess". I hate that it not only draws my attention to that part of someone's anatomy (most of them young girls) but I'm sure it draws the attention of dirty old men to a young woman's butt.

Mukluk boots. Oh man, I don't get them. Especially the ones covered with fur and have furry balls hanging off of them. I just dont understand why it's "cool" to look like you have strapped 2 pomeranians to your feet to go to the mall. It could work... If they were in Alaska hunting seals. JMO.

ADDED: Justin Beiber haircuts! I'm tired of seeing boys flick their heads so hard they are going to twist them right off their bodies.

I think mine are less fashion 'statements' than they are fragments, ha ha. (Insert your own geeky grammar joke here.)

I'm not a fan of the 'short shorts and Ugg boots' look. I'm not wild about uggs in any case (nothing personal, I'm sure that half the world isn't wild about the Keen's I wear, either), but the short-shorts with it look utterly ridiculous. Pick a season and dress for it.

I'm not doing cropped leggings either. I'm forty and short, those things chop my legs off at the wrong place.

Not a fan of the "maxi" dress. It's a hybrid: bikini top on top, beach cabana underneath. Just not my thing.

Lots of the clothes I see at stores (H&M in particular) look so thin and fragile, like rags, waiting for just one tug before "riiiiiip!" I'm not sure why "raggedy" is the new look there. Maybe I'm missing something....

Lastly, that new shade of bright canary yellow that's been out for the past year or two. That is an incredibly unflattering color on most people, myself included. I don't even want to look at it.

I'm sure I could list off more, but I'm actually pretty fashion impaired.
Added:
Oh, of course just like the rest of us,I totally abhor the 'low, showin' off my Calvin Kleins" as well with the guys.... the problem is, I've been seeing this trend for the last 20 years, so I didn't figure that as "new". So I'll also throw in "activewear for lounging" (think Juicy Couture, which is not in fact couture) and anything with letters or words on the bum declaring one's 'hotness'.

I could care less about adult fashion trends - I just wear what I want to wear, and is comfortable and looks decent enough.

Kids today though...I have 2 teenage stepsons, and 1 is into the "skinny jeans for guys" look. He's a bean pole already, and purposely buys and wears girls jeans for how skinny they are. He was doing the Emo Hair for a while, then a year ago gave himself dreadlocks, which still look God-awful on him with his stringy white-person hair. The other stepson wears the loose baggy jeans way down below his hips so the top half of his boxers stick out. I can't stand either trend!

I just did a presentation at the local middle school for their career day and one of the things I saw on many of the girls were super mini skirts that were also very poofy with lots of ruffles - they looked wider than they were long. Also paired with skimpy tops and strappy heels. I kept thinking, I thought there was dress code - why are these 13 year olds dressed like hookers? And on Career Day, no less? What kind of career are they thinking of for themselves?

I also hate the words on the butt, and the whole "wearing pajamas and slippers out in public" thing. How hard is it to put on some jeans and real shoes?

Gladiator sandals. I can't stand them for some reason. Those, paired with the rolled up boyfriend jeans... no thanks!!

Denim jackets. I think my mother traumatized me.

Anything 80's... this includes acid washed jeans, which are trying to come back. Please no!!

Those stupid one piece 'rompers' for grown ups... this inlcudes shorts overalls. WHY?! My 1 year old looks cute in rompers... grown women do NOT, you look ridiculous.

Fashions I can't live without: my ripped jeans. I will wear them until they fall off my body. My plain black nike flip flops. Tshirts I wore when I was 10. Sky high black heels. Plain spaghetti strap tanks with 'grandma' sweaters on top. Oversize sunglasses. Ridiculously floppy sunhats. Anything 'hippy'. 'Wife beaters' in every color. These are my staples :)

Athletic wear/sweats as everyday wear. Seems to be the mom staple around here. Seriously, it looks like women just rolled out of bed and most of the time they look bigger than they really are. It's no more effort to put on pants and a shirt, so I don't get it. If "What Not to Wear" would show up in suburbia, they'd hit the jackpot.

Low-rise pants. Had enough of seeing flabby tummies and thong underwear sticking out.

Sweat pants/shorts with big words across the bottom, like "JUICY." Ack.

Tank tops with bra straps hanging out.

I say anything goes for kids-that's their time to be all out wrong with clothes and still feel cool -I know I did :) Skinny jeans? Enjoy with that twiggy bod!

But for all age groups-I hate skank wear! there is no reason to wear super short skirts or shorts just because it's everywhere, there are ALWAYS other trendy lengths to choose from that are more flattering and less trashy, and I don't need to see your boobs fall out or your bare spare tire or your plumber's crack. These rules go for teens as well, who are often guilty. But weird clothes, go for it. I loves me some crazy fashion sightings and bizarre hairdos.

BUT, no matter what people are wearing (even skank wear), we don't criticize it because we don't want to teach the kids to be judgy, so when we see something 'way out there', my husband or I might say, "woah, that is fabulous" to each other with a sincere tone, not a sarcastic one. The kids have no idea we don't mean it. It's our code for "WHAT??!!!"

We live near a lot of people who have what we call the "PA porcupine" hairdo(we never saw it before we moved here, but it's way common and hasn't gone away in the past 5 years). Whenever we see one, my 5 yo daughter looks at me and says, "Mom, her hair is FABULOUS", and I say "It sure is dear!" and she says, "You should get yours like that!" And I say, "maybe one day!" She also saw a lady with some stripper pumps and a super skimpy red dress and a LOT of tanning and said, "Mom, isn't that lady pretty?" and I said, "Yes, dear, she is FABULOUS!" Now if my daughter tries to wear that when she's older, I'll have something different to say about it....

-I think flip flops anywhere but the beach and pool are horrible.
-I also hate slide on shoes on most women-esp delicate ones like mules. You really need to be so thin to wear them-otherwise you look like you are popping out of your shoes.
-Definitely low or lower rise jeans on women and girls. It is a style that looks so bad on 95% of the female population. Makes otherwise thin women look fat.
-Hating the maxi skirts out now. Another style that looks good on such a small % of women.
-Also-the puffy mini skirts are looking really bad.
-Gladiator type sandals on anyone that does not have thin legs look bad-or any sandle/shoe that has a horizontal line at the top b/c it trunkates the leg.
-I hate monogrammed purses too
-Capris look so bad on most women too-they hit at such a bad place and so make most look much heavier. Hitting mid calf is the worst.

For men-OMG I hate when grown men wear a football/hockey or baseball jersey. Or when they wear their baseball cap backwards. Jorts too-yuck!

so many of these things listed, I agree, I dislike them all as well (except maybe capri's...in the south, you can not wear jeans year round and sometimes shorts just aren't appropriate for every woman!)....anyway, the one thing I see so often that really makes me shudder is the low rider jeans on ladies (both younger and older) that do nothing but draw your eye to their muffin tops and over-hanging bellies....I swear I want to by like Stacey from What Not To Wear and just grab them by the arm and ask "Really? You REALLY think that people are looking at you in those jeans and thinking how hot you look???" I pretty much hate almost any short that comes from Hollister or Aeropostle....they are dressing our young ladies like hookers (and I think it's yuck to see anyone over 30 sporting their Aeropstle t-shirts!)...I don't like tank tops with bra straps glowing from underneath them, take the time to find a bra with a clear strap - it makes a HUGE difference....and I agree with the mom that said the Justin Beiber haircuts, I am ready for those mop top hairstyles on boys to be done, done, done. :-)

For guys I hate it when the younger generation will wear their pants very low, often they are barely hanging on below the buttocks or even lower. Who on the streets want to see your boxers anyway that are hanging out and sometimes the crack is showing.
My husband hates the capris or any type of cropped pants for women, although I still wear them occasionally :) He tells me every few weeks ever since I've known him (10 years) "when are these things going to go out of style, nobody looks good in them and in ten more years, we're all going to back at pictures of ourselves and wonder what we were thinking." But I suppose that true with any clothing item.
For anyone...Crocs! They make anyone's feet look enormous, they're terribly uncomfortable (yes I've tried them) and last is I would guess they can't be good for the foot since they are so lose and slide around so arch support wouldn't be so good. Also I agree with you on the ugly boot sandals things too.

Bra straps and underwear should not be seen!
If you are male and you have to hold your pants or walk funny to keep your pants up then they DON'T FIT! I used to work in a middle school in SC when this 'trend' became popular. One of the boys was caught robbing a convenience store. He was caught because his pants were so low that he couldn't hold them, the cigarettes and the hot dog he stole. His pants fell down and tripped him up while he was running. He he he. Served him right!
Words on the butt=TRASHY
boots with open toes or cut outs- WTH season are you supposed to wear those catastrophies? Boots for fall and winter, sandals and open toes heels for summer. Not both at the same time! Summer your feet will sweat, winter they will freeze. What idiot thought those up?

I hate: the shorts/tights/cowboy boot look on anyone over the age of 20. Teens are allowed to look funny for a minute though I agree that the skank in training is inappropriate. Not dressing to accommodate your size and shape. Many of the nonos listed are done by folks who saw and liked a piece of clothes and when they put it on, the muffin top, coin slot, boobage explosion didn't matter?
I hate jiggle booty!! That's when you are wearing clothing without the proper underwear and your butt is jumping and bumping around underneath.... Jiggle booty is not just for curvier or plump women, it can and does happen to smaller ones too!
Last one: too small or too big or too old or No bras! To wear an ill fitting bra is a crime that hurts everyone!!! LOL

I hate it when people wear uggs with shorts. If your feet are cold, why are you wearing shorts? I wouldn't want to smell those boots in the middle of summer, this is Miami we're talking about here! I also hate the booties, they have got to be the ugliest shoes ever made. This winter, I saw girls wearing pea coats with shorts, another one of those tacky things that make no sense. If it's cold enough to wear a coat, it's cold enough to wear long pants, not white daisy dukes. It seems harem pants, a la MC Hammer are making a comeback and I hate those as well. I must say though that the nastiest things are women with cellulite wearing short shorts and wearing no bras so their nipples show. I don't know if they think men will find them sexy for showing their nipples, but in reality, most men (and women) find this trashy! As for men, I not only hate the baggy pants that fall off their waists and show their boxers, but also jeans that are so baggy that the pants are bagging up around the butt area and the butt disappears under all that fabric, and I also hate it when they wear these bright colored shoes. For example, yesterday, a guy had a dark blue polo shirt with neon yellow shoes, yuck!!

I teach high school and my list is endless...but here's the top five...no, wait...six...

1. below the butt pants. I once had a student tell me he wore his pants that way because he was so "big." I laughed for 20 minutes straight and could never again look him in the eye without laughing...

2. low cut tank tops with push up bras...and then stashing your cell phone in your bra. Cleavage is nice, but so is leaving something to the imagination...and the jiggling when the phone vibrates is [head slowly shaking]

3. low cut jeans on girls so we not only see their plumber butt crack, but what color their thong is. I once had 8th grade boys drooling--literally--over that.

4. lip piercings. I'm still waiting for a couple to get their hoops entangled while kissing in the hallways and be late to class...

5. Tongue studs. If students aren't clacking them on their teeth, it makes their speech so slurry they sound drunk.

6. long, greasy, I-haven't-washed-my-hair-this-millennium-and-you-can't-see-my-eyes hair on guys.
