It's going to be hard to find any rear facing seat that will fit and allow you to be comfortable and it's recommended babies stay rear facing until at least age 2.
If you don't travel together often I suggest just sucking it up but if you travel together a lot perhaps it's time took look for a more practical car.

I would normally recommend the britax marathon hands down but it is huge! She will still be rear facing until she's two, so you'll need something smaller than that for a prelude. Don't worry about her feet getting squished, they learn to sit cross legged ("Indian style") and rear facing fir as long as possible is absolutely the safest. I'd personally see how much the prelude is worth and trade it for something bigger if it were me!

We have a 1997 Honda Civic and when our (now 9YO) twin daughters outgrew their infant seats, we were able to fit their Britax Roundabouts behind the driver's side and passenger side seats and still have enough room to place the front seats all the way back. A few things to check for when trying out convertible seats: some manufacturers allow the convertible seat to be a little more upright than the 45 degree angle required for infant seats (and some but not all convertible seats) so in many cases the convertible seat won't take up more room than the infant seat. Also with tight space you'll want to find a seat where the manual says that it's ok for the top of the child seat to be in contact with the back of the vehicle seat in front of it (called "bracing") - IIRC Britax seats allow this.

I highly recommend posting your question to the folks at the forums on http://www.car-seat.org - many are certified Child passenger safety techs with a wealth of expertise on installing child safety seats in all sorts of vehicles. Hope that helps!

I have a Saturn SL1 and a Marathon in the center. I don't know if that would work for you, but maybe adjust the placement so the shorter person (typically) is the one with the seat behind. Not sure what other seat to suggest.

As for the feet - kids sit all weird anyway. It won't hurt her to be cross legged while you drive.

My daugher is 7.5 months and 23 lbs and we have a '02 two door hyundai accent hatchback. I bought this car right out of high school and figured I would have a 4 door by kids. Anyway, I am tight on the knee room up front on the passenger side and I am 5'2. We went to Babies R us and found the only one that fit enough that I could even ride up front was Evenflo Titan Elite. It was $86 with a 20% off coupon. But try Babies R Us they let you try the car seats out in your car if you give them your license. Good luck! Oh and my daughter loves her seat.
