Lightweight Stroller

I have a 2 year old and am looking for a new lightweight umbrella stroller for quick trips and traveling. I want to get something that will hold up and last thru another child or two. I am willing to spend money but want to keep it under $200. I have been looking at the Maclaren's, specifically, the Quest. I think it might be overkill for my 2 year old, but at least we can get some use out of it with her and then for the next baby for sure. Any thoughts on the Quest or any other recommendations?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I ended up with a Maclaren Quest!! I just got it yesterday so have only used it in the house. :) So far, I really really like it. I will update more after I use it a few times!! My only hiccup is the sunshade. I wish it was bigger/longer and covered dd better. Guess I can't have it all, right?!?! :) This is basically just our travel stroller. Soon enough, I'm going to have to get a double and I'm going to really take my time with that one! :)

It's just over $200, but I highly recommend the City Mini. It's MUCH easier to fold you literally pull a strap) and a lot more substantial than the Maclaren strollers. Although they are still hard, its wheels are bigger so it holds up well on city sidewalks. It also reclines fully and has a massive sunshade so your child can nap in it.

We bought a Combi last year, and we didnt use it much (we still use our phil & teds for day to day. But yesterday we took our first trip on the Blue Line and I can not say enough about the Combi! It is very light weight and has an over the shoulder strap for easy carrying. It also folds very easy and I was able to fold it with a baby (almost 2) in one hand and some shopping bags too. It does not have a ton of storage underneath, but it was great for city exploring! Good luck! I know there are many many to choose from!

I have a Volo and I think it's great! Decided the extra features of the other models wasn't really worth the money, and the ultra-lightweightness of the Volo really appealed to me as a travel stroller.

I have no doubt that the stroller will last through 2-3 kids. Nicely made, and daughter seems to like it lots.

Hi I don't know whether or not you have already purchased yet but i am currently looking into buying a good umbrella stroller for my almost 10 month old. The one that pushes all the right buttons for me is the joovy groove. You can get it for a little under $200. It fully reclines, comes with rain covers, can carry upto 55lbs, weight 16lbs, has a very large canopy and a good size basket and has a spare set or seat covers for a totally new look. It even has cup holders which is very handy. I would love to hear what you decided on and whether you are happy with it.

Happy shopping!

Hello! I obsessed about my umbrella stroller selection and finally decided on the Mia Moda stroller http://www.miamodainc.com/strollers/facile.asp. We use it sometimes for shopping but primarily for travel. It has held up really well through all of our airport trips (23 flights with my 18 month old). It is lightweight, durable and has been a great choice for us. The only complaint I have is that the unlocking mechanism doesn't work every time when we push the release button so we have to manually push the button to release the lock. It is not a big deal but took us a bit to figure out the first time. Other than that I am very happy with it.

Also, for those strollers that don't have removable seat covers to wash, you can add a basic stroller seat cover (I made mine). The one I have is also padded so it adds some extra cushion for my daughter (which is hard to find in umbrella strollers).

You're definitely on the right track with the Maclaren!! Check craigslist, too, as there are usually a few Maclarens for sale. I'm adding mine to craigslist later next week. I've got a Techno XT, if you're interested :D

We got the $100 Volo when my oldest was 2-1/2. Love it cuz it is 9 lbs, easy fold, & it has a carrying strap making it easy to get on bus or train w/stroller & the kid. We have put our 1 year old in it for some time now although she looked like pretend when we 1st did it cuz she was so small in there! I was reluctant at 1st to spend so much on an umbrella but my hubby wanted it (he's the stroller addict of our house) and it wasn't a battle I wanted to fight. Now though it is worth it for the convenience esp when we are transporting 2!

I love my MacClaren. I got my first one...in PINK when I was pregnant with my second baby. My mom bought it for my first who was 2 then. She is 5 know and still wants to sit in it for long walks at the zoo or the city. I then bought a MacClaren side by side double, used, for my other two. It is about 5 years old and still works perfectly. I wish learned a bit sooner that spending a bit more money really does get you what you paid for, I love my MacClaren.

I bought a Jeep Wrangler Sport Umbrella Stroller from Walmart. Very reasonable.

here's link to the model. Its very similar to the one I bought. It reclines, it has a tray, cup holder, very sturdy, canopy to cover from the sun and comfy padded seat. You and your baby will love it.

I too was looking for a stroller that is lightweight, easy to use, well-made/sturdy. I also wanted something that would not take up the entire trunk area of our small car & would not take up too much space when going to restaurants or small stores. (I saw someone recommend the City Mini & honestly, I think it seems awesome, but since it takes up as much space as our Chicco Cortina, I would have spent the $ & still wanted a good small stroller. If $ were not an issue, I would still consider buying one)

Anyway, I found a Maclaren Quest at Marshall's (the Brickyard location). Someone told me they'd seen them there & there was one left the day I found mine. I absolutely LOVE it. It was $149.00 before tax. I believe it is last year's model...but I don't care about that. It is SOOOO easy to use. I can steer with one hand while my other arm is filled with stuff. I can fold it up with one hand while holding my squirming 1 year old in the other arm. I usually lay it across the floor of my back seat...no need to use the trunk at all. I like the Quest too b/c the seat reclines enough for a nap. The small basket beneath will hold my current diaper bag, there's a hanging pocket attached to the handles & the included rain cover is really handy too. If you can't find something on Craigslist, I would suggest stopping into Marshall's & TJ Max stores. Maybe you will find one like I did!
