I know this may be a stretch but I'm gonna ask anyway. My daughter has a severe seizure disorder. On most days she is much like an average child her age until a seizure hits. We want her to be able to have some freedom in our home without one of us constantly hovering over her. In addition we need to be able to see her sleep but she will only sleep in a dark room with the door closed (she has major sleep issues and wakes often as well). Anyway we would like to put a closed circuit camera system in our home so we can watch her from a monitor while she plays-and so I can get things done around the house while she plays! My question is do any of you have one of these? I'm looking for recommendations. One that can record would be even better as her seizures are changing. And like I said we will need one that works in the dark. I know many parents who's children have the same diagnosis (Dravet Syndrome) as my daughter have this. However many of them also have money. Our funding is limited. So I'm hoping some of you may be able to assist me with this. Also if anyone knows of any funding or grants for something like this I'd appreciate that info also!

T., it's a little more than the $100 someone else posted but we bought a home security system at COSTCO for $600 and it came with 6 cameras and you can watch it on your TV and laptop from wherever you are at any time. And it records. Good luck!
I used to care for a young boy who had this same issue, and his family installed the closed circuit monitoring system, I'm not sure which system they went with but I do know that for a lot of these types of systems insurance companies consider these reimbursable expenses, so I would definitely call your insurance company and see if they would cover this for you and if so what they suggest as far as brands etc.
I don;t have any suggestions for the camera, but just wanted to let you know I am sorry to hear of your daughters health condition. i was diagnosed with epilepsy 3 years ago at the age of 33. It's mild and heriditary, but still a difficult worry in my life everyday. My daughter was born with it as a newborn, but outgrew the seizures and my son who is now 6 had a grand mal at age 3 right in front of me and we're still watching him like a hawk! My 3rd child so far no signs of seizures. Stay strong and I can feel for you and needing to watch your child around the clock. It's stressful! Best wishes.

I just had an idea and I thought I'd share. I've seen stories on television about "guide" dogs that can sense when someone is going to have a seizure (even before that person knows they are going to have the seizure). In one particular story, a family had one of these dogs because their son had a seizure disorder. The dog was trained to alert the boy so he could move into a safe position and then alert others in the home. Might be worth checking in to. Good luck. K.

Grab a tech friend <a real geek> and have them put in a 'low light' camera in the areas and rooms you need. <Recommend just using a night light in the room or in the hall>. It is as easy as installing webcams now a days - some teenagers and college students would even be able to hook this up for you. Check like stores "Best Buy" and such places. You could set it to your laptop and bring your laptop in any area of your home or even watch while you are away. BTW - you can also purchase a night vision camera <we got one last year at Target> for under $100 which takes photos for 'movement' - (as we were having 'animal' issues around the home). At least until you find someone to hook it up. Good Luck to you.

We had a motorola camera that recorded on our computer. Try Fryes electronic store. They have many to choose from. You can look at their website to see different options.
Sam's club has a low light system for monitoring, and it does have the ability to monitor 4 areas at once and records. It may be more pricey than you expect, but once installed you can keep an eye on your daughter from almost anywhere. Having had 3 sisters with epilepsy, I understand the need to keep an eye on her. I do not mean to be insensitive but if the system is too pricey, maybe someone could stage a "benefit" for you, using either containers or a benefit at a place of business. I know I personally give all the time to help ill children.
