I'm trying to prepare for a garage sale that my neighborhood is having and I have lots of clothes. Does anyone know of any clothing stores that are going out of business and selling their rolling racks or does anyone know where else I can get some. I'd only use it maybe once a year so I'm not trying to spend a fortune. Thanks in advance.
We had a garage sale last weekend, and I have one that I'm getting rid of. I'm not sure if you're willing to drive to Denton, but if so I'll sell it to you for $15.
It came from a clothing store, and has four different sides to hang clothes on. My husband's uncle bought several from them (went out of business) and gave some to the family. He gave me two, but we really only need one.
As a person who has done quite a few garage sales, I found that most of the inexpensive rolling racks you can buy are not very sturdy. Here is what I use, I get out my 6 ft and 10 ft ladders and open them up as the ends of my rack. I have some long steel poles which I have aquired over the years and place them between the ladders and I have an instant clothes rack. In place of the steel poles you can purchase some long dowel rods or closet poles from Lowe's or Home Depot. These racks are sturdy and can hold a lot of clothing. I have other people borrow these from me for their own garge sales. The more clothing you have, just borrow someone else's ladder and add another pole. It all packs up nicely and out of the way until the next time you need it.
TARGETS! right now they have them on sale for 8.99 a rack. I was just there yesterday and was intending to tell my Mother and totally for got.
We bought ours at Wal-Mart for around $10. Granted they are not very sturdy, but for what you pay & how much we need it we made due...
I just moved from Austin but while I lived there we did some bedroom/closet remodeling and I rented rolling clothes racks from a tool rental place for approx. $3-$5/day.
There were a few on Craigslist. A seller in Euless had 3 that they were selling for $30.
If you will have little boys clothes (12 - 24 month) I would love to come to the garage sale.
If you don't have shelves on the walls of your garage, you could do what I did at one time:
Buy the type of closet shelf bracket that has the keyhole type of screw-hole. Put them up on the garage wall, buy poles to fit = the nice thing is this can be taken down and stored in the garage or attic. or you can buy shelf boards and store stuff in the garage. We took ours down for several years until we acquired too much stuff and had to leave them in place for storage. When we moved, the shelves were a selling point.
But the idea of renting clothing racks for $3-5/day sounds really good! The only problem is that can mount up after awhile. If you like to prepare ahead of time, it can get expensive.
