Looking for Someone or Someplace to Donate over 500 Ounces of Breast Milk...

I just have an over abundance of stored and frozen breast milk in my freezer and my husband would like room for food...
If anyone knows of a place or someone in need, I would be overjoyed to donate it to them. I am drug free, alcohol free, caffeine free, and anything not good for me free, so if it can be used to help, it would be better than throwing it away!

So What Happened?

I had someone who wanted it, but had to back out due to shipping costs...it's back up for grabs...any takers? All of the websites were very helpful, however, they cannot take the milk that I have stored due to lack of testing...back to square one...

I donated w/them for over a year. Part goes to Africa, part stays here for NICU's. It's all FedEx, you don't have to go anywhere. If you have trouble w/their site or have questions...

Wow, you are blessed! I could have used you when I was struggling to pump out 2 to 3 ounces! They make it pretty tough to donate in this country, you may try abroad.

I'd call the Pump Station in Santa Monica @ ###-###-####. I know there's a place, I just can't remember the name. They'll connect you with them. I believe the place even picks up.

I'm sure you'll make some mommies very happy :-)

I think this is actually quite a commodity, you should look into selling it. With breast milk considered the new miracle food, many adoptive parents pay top dollar for it.

B.,

I have a good friend who had an abundance of milk frozen and gave it all to an adoptive mom with a brand new baby. As an adoptive mom myself, I thought it was an amazing thing for her to do. We would love to be able to nurse our new babies, but in many cases, no amount of breast stimulation and hormone therapy will induce lactation. You might check around with various agencies or ask friends, neighbors, church associates, etc. Someone might know of an adoptive mom with a new born who would love your frozen supply for their new baby.

Hi B. -

I know you've gotten lots of great responses with ideas, but I thought I'd just give you this link, in case this comes up again. This is a national organization, so wherever you are you ought to be able to find a location suited to you:

http://www.hmbana.org/

Being an adoptive mom myself, I loved the suggestion that you give the milk to someone who has adopted a baby. I had tried obtaining milk from the Milk Bank in San Jose, but it was out of reach for us, price-wise. It would be an amazing gift for someone wishing their baby could have the benefits of breast feeding but unable to offer it herself.

All the best to you,
Colleen

How funny I was just talking about this with another mom in my mommies group. We have a service here in CA that is called Milkin' Mamas that accepts donations of breastmilk. But since they are currently at storage capacity I suggested donations to the Gay & Lesbian community since they adopt & may want breastmilk for their child.

Also try calling the shelters or adoption agencies - never know.

How do you have so much milk??? I have about 20 ounces in my freezer and I have a 6 month old. I'd like to have more on hand because sometimes I have to take meds and give my son a bottle. Tell me your secret! :)

Thanks, J.

I think it's wonderful that you want to donate. I don't believe their are any breastmilk banks in Nevada (at least there weren't when I was looking to donate last year). I used Milkin Mamas Breastmilk Bank ( http://milkinmamas.com/ )in CA. They have a detailed screening process, but all at no charge to you. They really appreciate all their donors and accept either a single large donation like you are interested in or smaller continual donations. It's an AMAZING feeling to be able to provide for not only your own child but to many more critcially ill NICU babies. What a wonderful & generous person you are for even considering it!!!! Please feel free to contact me at ____@____.com if you have any questions about the process.

That's very generous of you! You might contact Sacred Entrance Midwifery ###-###-####. You can check out their website for hours. I know there were a few moms there that couldn't produce breast milk and were taking donations.

I know The Pump Station is hosting a holiday milk donation through San Jose Milk Bank later this month. Check their website.

Or Mama's Milk Bank is a great option. If you can't find their website, email me back and I will send the details (I'm responding from my blackberry so hard to attach link from here).

Good luck, and happy pumping

28 ounces?!?!?! SERIOUSLY? That is AWESOME! You were born to breastfeed. Way to go mama. I really don't have advice, but wanted to give you props for wanting to donate. If it were me, I would love to find a woman who just adopted a baby. I can't imagine the absolute gift it would be for that mom and baby. May God bless you, and keep on pumping!

Wow, I don't know of any resources to donate to but I must say you are BLESSED to be able to pump 28 ounces in 20 minutes! I'm still struggling with increasing my supply for my 3-month-old multiples, 28 ounces is what I could pump in maybe a day and some hours! Way to go! Hope you find a lovely home for all your abundant supply of liquid gold! :)

Hi,
I don't know of an organization but, when I was nursing my second son, I provided milk for a friend who had adopted. Her son was having terrible constipation and I had LOTS of milk. She wanted to do something in return, so she made us dinner. A couple of weeks on the breast milk and her son was fine! Maybe you could contact an adoption agency with your offer? Just a thought. E.

B., check out milkin mama's breast milk bank online. I donated over 1,00 oz to them because our freezer was so full that we had not room for food. You have been blessed with a wonderful gift and a great heart to want to share your milk. It's really easy. They want your doctor and your baby's doctor to sign a form stating that you are both in good health and that donating your extra milk will not take away from your baby's nutrition. They send out a lab tech to your home or work to draw a small blood sample. They test for communicable disease, and then they ship you large coolers to pack the frozen milk in.

You also are given a free breast pump!
Good luck with whatever you decide!
