Looking to Buy a Swingset/playground

I am looking to buy a Swingset/Clubhouse thing for my son for his birthday this year. I am looking for a nice set but, I really don't want to pay $5K for it (Rainbow, etc). I've seen a lot of yards with PlayGrounds in them.

Do you have one? Where did you get it? Do you like it? Anything I should stay away from. I know that I don't want the cloth coverings, as I see they are taking a BEATING in the horrible winds we've been getting.

Anyway, I'm looking at one from CostCo (The SunRay) and wondered if anyone else had purchased it?

Any information would be great. I have 2 months to decide!

We bought one @ Sams for I think $1500 & the boys love it.
Actually the one we picked was made by CedarWorks who
makes those $5k ones. I actually like it better than the
rainbow ones.

We just bought the SunRay playset from Costco, and my girls LOVE it! (ages 5 and 2) We had a guy put it together for us (their business is assembling swingsets, etc.), and he said he has put together tons of different models, and the SunRay is by far the best built one. I highly recommend it! (and the assembly guys for that matter)

We bought one several years ago from Sams Club, Costco has one almost exactly like it too. They take awhile to set up, you can hire someone to do it, but we did it ourselves and we're not handy. It is an excellent play system, and extremely affordable.

I would highly recommend getting someone to put it together for you. My husband and I aren't crafty. Ours came in giant boxes with a bazilion parts and gadgets .. we paid a guy $200 that we found on dallasforhire.com and he did a super job. Contact me if you would like his info - he does these lots of weekends.

We have a Sun Ray from Costco and are pleased with the value and quality. We have an almost 5 year old who has enjoyed it quite a bit. It took my son (the 4 yr old) and my husband a weekend to put it together. It was delivered to our house (shipping included. It does have the tarp like cover on it, which so far, has held up OK (one of the keys is making sure it is fastened down well so it doesn't flap around too much.) Good luck!

A little about me: Working mom (31) of a almost 5 year old boy and an almost 1 year old girl. Happily married for the last 7 years.

I would check out Craigslist, under children and toys. You can find all kinds of stuff and sometimes you can find Great Buys! The family will buy a brand new play set and only use it for a year - it's like new and top of the line and you pay half.

We found a 3 story wood fort custom made with everything for nothing. It was a great deal.

Good luck

I've seen a nice looking wood one as Sam's Club. I think it was more like $1500.

Costco and Sam's Club are your best bets. You won't find a better value anywhere else. We ended up going with the one from Sam's club, but the Costco would be good too. The models change every couple of years. Sam's still has the one we bought. The only thing I didn't like about Costco's when we looked was that the monkey bars go across the top of where the swings hang. The instructions actually say you should take the swings down every time you want to use the monkey bars...that will never happen. I just didn't like the design. Also, the company that makes Sam's Club's set offers add-ons so if there is something else you want, you can buy the accessories. We bought a floor extension and an extra swing, all reasonably priced.

I bought ours at Sam's and while it was no easy task to put it together, it has been a very sturdy and fun set. It's about 1,000 and you'll need several days and a few hands to get it done.

Look at Sam's.....we bought one two years ago and we are very pleased with it. The one Sam's currently has is a little over $1100. It is the same brand we purchased and we have no complaints. You can also call the customer service number and they can get you in touch with someone to assemble it also(of course for a nominal fee). We put ours together and it took two days. My husband is quite handy and we had family watch the kids while we assembled. And yes we looked at Rainbow and had heart failure so we found other options.....glad we did and good luck.

T.,
You are on the right track with the Sunray from Costco. It's actually made by Rainbow but private labeled. We have one and it has been great. Google "SunRay" and you will find a great web site of other SunRay parents who give helpful advice on putting it together.
