Hi mommas, I'm currently 6 months pregnant with baby #2 and I think my hubby and I are ready to finally get a new mattress to replace our second hand mattress that must be 20+ years old. I'm so looking forward to being more comfortable at night! Anyways, just wondering if any of you have a mattress brand that you like... I know there's a lot out there... Sealy, Tempurpedic, Simmons, etc... and a wide range of prices. I'm not sure how much we want to spend. I know that a lot of times you get what you pay for. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated... thanks!!!

What can I do next?

We have purchased 3 mattress sets from the Original Mattress Factory and I would definately recommend going there. The prices are so much more reasonable and there is no need to wait for a sale. The sales people are very knowledgable and not at all pushy. We are very happy with what we've purchased there.

please purchase your mattress from a reputable store and go with a name brand. Alot of the bedbug infestations are comming from cheap mattresses purchased from these discounted furnature outlets. Alot of times they take an old mattress and just recovered it or build a new one on the existing shell. I have tried they memory foam matterial and had to get rid of it after 9mos once the weather turned warmer. I found that the heat from my body would not disapate well. I was uncomfortable hot in hot weather and my back and head broke out with the worst heat rash I ever had in my life.

Depends on what you are looking for, we have a Sleep Number now and we LOVE it. According to what I've read your body gradually adjusts to your mattress and over time eventually will need the opposite of what you have (if you have soft need firmer if you have firm need softer) so the sleep number allows you to adjust whenever you want. It was great when I was pregnant I would make it really soft so I kind of sunk in like a water bed and didn't need all those pillows for support and like someone else said my husband and I can have different settings and both of us are happy. If you lay horizontally across the bed sometimes depending on our current settings you can tell it is different or feel that line of division in the middle but it's not uncomfortable or obvious. Barring that we always used to buy from Original mattress factory, great product for a great price. Good Luck.

We have been very happy with Serta Perfect Sleeper. We bought the last two sets from Sam's and we love them (the current set is a pillow-top--really nice and comfortable, we put the older set in the guest room for my parents. Before that, we had Sealy Posturepedic.

The one I would recommend against is Simmons Beautyrest. I used to work at a store that sold them. people did not like them.

Also, we stayed at a B&B that had Sleep Number beds..I will NEVER sleep on a sleep number bed again. It felt like laying atop a hot-dog-shaped tube of air. I hated it.

Just make sure you go to a reliable store, and lie on all of them. We bought a Sealy, and are very pleased with it. We got a pillow-top, but 4 years later, it is still very comfy. Also, if you are looking for a new baby mattress, Naturepedic makes an entirely organic mattress so you don't have to worry about all the carcinogens that are found in other mattresses. They're a bit on the pricey side, but any book you read about green living will tell you that the mattress is one of the most important areas to go organic, because the plastics and fire-retardant chemicals in regular baby mattresses have all sorts of health risks, and babies spend so much time in close contact with their mattresses. They fit a standard crib, exceed all of the U.S. safety standards, and my son sleeps very well on his! You can find them on amazon, or they have their own website as well.

DONT GO TO DENVER MATRESS. I bought a bed there and it wasn't so cheap and a spring popped like 2 years later. My mom uses it now in her spare bedroom. But they refused to fix/replace it.

There is a place called Matress firm and they sell name brand beds for cheaper. We got our king size bed for $750. They are mismatched...so if you are like me and don't really care the box springs (that is what bedskirts are for :) )are a different material pattern then your matress then this place is for you. They also sell discontinued models or fabrics too. They also deliver for free within a certain area and haul away the old. Good luck, I love sleeping in a new bed!!

I love our sleep number bed. I would never buy any other kind of bed. I didn't have any problems sleeping all throughout my pregnancy because I could adjust it to be softer or more firm depending on what my back or front needed. They can be a bit pricey, but they are worth EVERY penny. They do have a wige range of prices too. Plus if you go into a store, ask and see if they have any deals on some of the older model numbers. the company recently renamed the different models, so if you ask, they probably still have some of the models with an older name about 40% off. We just bought our second one. Our first one was great and had it for 10 years, but recently we decided to upgrade to a fancier model, but we got one of the old model number beds so we upgraded and saved money. It is worth going to one of the stores and trying them out. We love it! Plus my husband can have his side more firm and I can have mine more soft, no arguments. Our guest room bed, we got from the Original Mattress Factory. My parents helped pick it out since they are the ones who sleep in it. It is a traditional matress, but very good quality for a fair price.

Hi L..
I wish I would have been on Mamasource when we went mattress shopping. We got a Temperpedic(sp?) mattress several yrs. ago & spent top dollar on it, but now we wish we would have gotten a Sleep Number bed instead. The memory foam is okay, but after a couple of yrs. we noticed that it is beginning to leave indentations where we sleep all the time (& you can't flip them over like a regular mattress to get even wear on both sides).
I hope you guys find something you like & are happy with for yrs. to come! And congrats on your pregnancy! I am 5 months pregnant w/ baby #2 myself. :)

I love my tempurpedic!! It's wonderful when you are pregnant too b/c you have no pressure points! It was worth the money. I have recommended it before and one point to make...it seems fairly common that the first week or so is not the best sleep...I guess you're body has to get used to it!

the best time to buy a mattress is on a holiday-- they have crazy labor day/memorial day/black friday sales for mattresses. we got ours for $500 less than the normal price on labor day!

we really like our mattress-- it has springs that are not all connected to each other, so my husband doesn't get jostled when i roll over in bed. i forget the term for it... there's some fancy name... and there is a memory foam top which is nice.

go to the showrooms and don't be embarrassed to lay down on the beds and try them out. ask lots of questions, the salesmen can help you figure out what kind of bed you need.

we saved some moola by skipping the boxspring and frame and putting our bed on a wooden platform instead... i think it makes our mattress a bit firmer than it would be with a boxspring but it works great for us!

also be aware that most beds these days require extra deep fitted sheets, so you might have to invest in those too. big lots and old time pottery are two places for discount prices on sheets...

We wanted a Tempurpedic but couldn't afford it right now with the economy so I tried about EVERY alternative in memory foam out there and the one that came the closest was Natures Dream at Mattress Warehouse. It was a fraction of the price with a good warranty and I love it! We have had it since April and my back is doing so much better.
