Has anyone had this problem. My sons eye is fine during the day, but toward the evening before bedtime is right eye always hurts. Can this be a headache, or is his eye tired, or can it be something else. I am starting to get concerned, because it's almost every evening this happens to him. Looking forward to any responses.

Hi honey, this could easily be a vision problem, because headaches/eye pain are common when non-corrected vision problems exist.
Head to the eye doctor.
Get his eyes checked, he may very well have a stigmatism that is straining his eyes. I know that happened to me in my teens and I had to have glasses for reading and the computer.
I would make sure to see a pediatric eye doctor. My son would complain about his eyes (usually in the evening or before a nap) and it turns out that he has allergies causing his eye to have thousands of little bumps on them- causing them to hurt. We tried eye drops but they just seemed to make it worse. What works best for him is a wet washcloth. Hope this helps.

Have you had his eyes checked? It sounds to me like eye strain from trying to see. After a full day of focusing extra hard, it's probably had enough. Good luck
If your son does this every night he could have tired/strained eyes. You should take him to an eye doctor.
As a child I did the same thing. At 2 years old my mom took me to the eye doctor,I needed glasses. The doctor instucted me on doing eye exersizes and eventually my eyes got stronger.
Don't wait to long to do something for your son, there could be a larger underlying problem you might not be aware of.
I encourage you to look at the rest of your family. Does anyone in your family wear glasses or contacts? If so your family genetics could be passed to your son in the case of having sensitve eyes or weak eyes and he may be in need of glasses.

My son had a very similar issue. I took him to a pediatric eye doctor and they found that his left eye was not a strong as the right. We put him in glasses and then put a patch on the right eye for about 10 minutes a day to strenghten the left eye. His left eye soon stopped hurting. Make sure you go to a pediatric eye doctor.
Hi C.! I would take him to an eye doctor. He may need glasses, or have a lazy eye. It wouldn't hurt just to get him looked at, and you would at least feel better.

I would start with your pediatrician. If you have done that and have been dissatisfied, the eye doctor I recommend (found my son's lazy eye problem, performed his surgery, regularly follows-up on his glasses, etc.) is Robert Hoffman at Primary Children's Medical Center (also at the Moran Eye Institute). He's worth the drive. He's quick, abrupt, and doesn't chat, but KNOWS KIDS' EYES better than anyone else I can imagine. He's a pleasant fellow, just not a chit-chatter.
I would have his eyes checked. Also he could be getting headaches from allergies. Talk with your doctor. Good luck.
It may be eye strain. Have you taken him to the eye doctor? He could need glasses. My youngest always complained about his eyes and the headaches that would form by the evening and he needed glasses. I had glasses from the time I was five or so. I'd check that out. Good luck!!!!
I am not specialist, but, I would recommend seeing an eye doctor. It sounds like your son's eye is strained at the end of the day. Perhaps, one eye is working hard because it or the other one is not working appropriately.
My son was getting eye dryness and irritation at night too. The Dr. said they were dry and he could use drops. I also don't think he drinks enought water during the day, which may be a factor. He has been doing better. You might try to help w/ dryness first and if that doesn't help, go see a Dr.
Hello, I am a mother of an 11 and 7 year old. You might want to look into taking your son to the eye doctor. They have ways of checking the eyes without the child being able to read if he can not. My 7 year old has had glasses since he was 3. He has also had vision therapy to help some other problems. Your son may not need glasses but taking him in may put you at ease.
Go to an eye dr for the problem, my daughter had the same problem and it started with jusst one eye but the closseer summer got it was both eyes, finally we went to the dr and he thought it was allergies but wouldn't prescribe medication for the eyes cause she was to young according to the package so he prescribed liqiud allergy medication. A couple weeks later at my DD's eye appointment my Littlest DD started to complain about her eyes, the eye dr asked what was wrong so I told him, he picked her up put her in my oldest DD lap and took a look, she had a really bad case of it, so he prescribed the eye stuff and the first week we went back in every other day, cause it wasn't tested on children under 3 and everything was good, and what a difference, this went on for almost 2 months, and had I not taken her with me to the eye dr who knows how much longer it would of lasted, and the eye dr didn't even charge me for it he said he already got our money for my oldest so taking my youngest was a bonus. Have it looked at, there is no harm in it!
You should prob. have his eyes checked. If his vision is weak, it could be that the eye strain is causing his eye to hurt by the evening. He is old enough that he will be able to do the eye exam well, and he may need glasses. (They use shapes/pictures with the little kids who don't know their letters yet.) Good luck!
